Jesse Hogan(mini-draft)- priority for us

the problem, the way i see it, is that you cant recruit a key forward and expect them to step up straight away, you need to develop them over time... we have 24 months to begin a succession plan for our aging stars, otherwise we will end up in the same situation as the bulldogs.... That comment by Bond, "the list is in very good shape" is a really concerning comment for me... we dont have any young KPP prospects... that is not indicative of a healthy list IMHO

This depends on where Lyon wants to take our playing style. We are playing "RTB style Moneyball", we cannot assume that the traditional roles within a side are being prioritized by our club. I mean imagine fielding 22 contested ball winning, hard tackling, running machines with a few link up quicks. As long as the quality of inside fifties is good and you have enough entries you don't need a giant marking them at full forward, however it helps if you are not getting the entries or you are bombing them in, both of which we know Ross isn't crash hot on.

Clarke/Moller + Broughton/Ibbotson.... Or throw our 1st rounder into that mix...

As much as GWS will be happy to get flogged while they accumulate draft picks, the fact is they will also have to start winning games in their market so older will players will still be on their radar

Getting all those players to agree to deals and then re-locate to GWS is hard to do.

The restraint of trade was even worse before FA and that same argument can be applied to every league that uses a draft. Small price to pay to be a professional athlete. All this boohoo, homesick and I want to play for my favourite club stuff is childish nonsense, none of this happens in other countries.

O/T. Its different here in that guys dont go away to College first and often interstate requiring them to live away from Mommy. So first time away from home can be go West or East for kids @ 18.

The big mistake the AFL made was not stating that the mini-draft was for players to be traded to GWS no picks. They admitted as much last year.

maybe... but even the eagles, whos forwardline was rubbish, had the q-log and the ranger kicking 50 goals in their premiership year of 06.... I can not see the game changing to the point where a key forward will be rendered surplass to requirements for success. we just dont have anyone coming through who can be a target... Bond and Lloyds obsession with flankers is going to hurt us

The only advantage we'd have over the Demons is that we can give GWS some ready-made players (Ibbo and Silvagni) as they won't want any Demon players. Surely GWS can't be after more draft picks, they need mature bodies not kids.

We are still talking to them. What about I am not sure.

Agreed, we can forgive them a couple of years backing themselves in on speculative picks like Pitt and Crozier after cashing in on Fyfe, however pressure is back on for a KPR pleasing choice @ pick 18 this year, if only for the fact that I'm not going to take it very well having to sift through hate posts for the next two years while pick 18 2012 ND develops into whatever he becomes. ;)

perhaps pick 12 is on the cards.
2 picks inside the top 20 of this draft should net us a KPP & a mid who would be expected to be quality.
What do we give up for pick 12? Moller & Silvagni?

Do you know that for sure?

Well, freo had coffee with them in the coffee shop after the round-robin discussions were over. Could of been talking about the cricket for all I know, but we all live in hope.

P.S. The pre-eminent neuro-surgeon in Australia is a woman and she works in, you guessed it, a Melbourne hospital. So goes to show how much I know. :)

What I mean is how do we know that Bond and Co had a coffee with GWS officials? It was mentioned on one of those rumour sites not the AFL website. I can't fnd any mention of it.

I have no idea what you're going on about in the second bit.

GWS got their extra high pick, they can now take their time and see what comes in. They have till the 23rd to finalize the trades, so why rush the second one. I trust our guys to get the job done.

Remember we almost managed to get the Mini draft pick back GWS last year before the AFL killed the trade.

The reason why the AFL killed the trade last year was because GWS were trying to keep the picks for themselves. We were no chance of getting the mini-draft picks last year either.

They have just ordered their second round of coffees and Bond has ordered a Lemon Meringue Pie.

not to mention our idiot recruiters have refused to entertain drafting any form of KPP in the last 3 years.... for all the love for bond and lloyd, seriously, blind freddie could see we are short in this area. Bond and Lloyd could undo any good work they may have done with this short-sightedness.....

that might be a bit unfair, but it is seriously pissing me off that we have put ourselves in this position.... we can blame the expansion teams and compromised drafts all we want, but we have screwed ourselves by not investing in talls for the future

/RANT

It's not the 80's any more, Football has moved beyond loading the field with massive KPP's. You no longer see 2 gorillas in each of your 50's, a ruckman on the field and one sitting on the bench.

Time to move on people.

ouch.... for the record i think crozier in particular was a fantastic choice.... as for the hate posts... well im an emotional being who's one true love (thankfully the wife doesnt lurk in these parts ;)) is the FFC, mzungu in particular breaks my spirit... but i digress... all i want to see is the beginnings of a succession plan for pav and mcpharlin and i will be happy

Was said by Gary Walsh who was at Etiad today and saw them in there together.

The second bit you were fortunate enough to miss as a discussion a couple of weeks ago with some of the other's here. My bitching about Victorian arrogance. Wasn't for you specifically, just a general correction on something I said in an earlier discussion.

I hope Bond shouts. Might just be enough to get the deal over the line.

By all accounts (mine), Silvagni's poker face has just forced Bond to unveil his secret weapon, a conference call with RTB in which Ross has convinced SOS that Ibbo and Silvagni are competitive beasts, who, after having licked their wounds will be giving great effort to the GWS Giants, and that the pen in front of SOS is fit and available and ready to play it's role for both our football clubs.

football will never get to the point where KPP's are not required... all i want is a succession plan for mcpharlin and pav..

if GWS are after big bodied players we have a player who made top 10 in the B & F this year who they might like.
One Pearce in the team would suffice. (waiting for the attacks )
