It highlights that Richmond have not had a lot of stars with leadership material. Richo is a star but has shown himself to be a bit fragile mentally at times. Respect for the likes of Knights who was a Tigers champion but he was always a very good honest player rather than out and out star IMO. There just seems to be an evenness about the Tigers and they really need the likes of Coughlan to jump up and star from the front. Richmond's 2001 side finished top 4 but they were very even across the board.Yze_Magic said:

The only exceptions to this are St Kilda because of their rotation policy though some of their choices are stars anyway and I consider Maxfield and Simpson to be in the Johnson mould, prolific tough midfielders who lead by example rather than full blown AFL stars at the moment. Just my opinion.
The Swans had Kelly previously though who was a tough midfielder who ended up being a star through sheer weight of deeds and the Roos had Carey who speaks for himself.
The Tigers should appoint Coughlan as Carlton did to a young Kernahan back in 1987. Stars rise to the challenge and inspire those around them by their example. Failing that Nathan Brown is their biggest star who would lead well onfield but would need to develop his off field role.

It's out of him and Joel Bowden, I think Joel Bowden deserves it because his heart and soul has been with club for years now but I have a feeling it's going to be Kane Johnson.

I thought it would have been Coughlan and DeLedio and Tambling as vice-captains.

Richo would be ropable..here's a guy who for 11 years has given his heart and soul to lift Richmond, sometimes single-handledly, and he isn't given the captaincy as just reward for those efforts.
Just proves how much of a rabble they really are.

No surprises if Kane got it, Coughlan needs to get back into form after an injury interrupted year this year, Brown has only been here a year and not really captaincy material
For what its worth I would have thought everyones ex fave whiiping boy Joel Bowden would have been a slight chance. Sure he has had one good year out of many frustrating ones but he kept trying last year, has been around the place long enough also
