Khawaja has had plenty of chances at test level, in tour games, and at A level.

Warner, Cowan and Marsh all out performed him each time in those, hence he was the one left out.

Marsh got a test century in difficult conditions and backed it with a strong 50.

He also batted well in South Africa before breaking down.

Apologies if I've missed something. I had to scan series lists on cricinfo to find them all so might have missed some tour games somewhere. That sort of stuff is not available in a user friendly list as far as I can find.

Actually Khawaja got a ton in the Sri Lankan tour match.

After Punter went home Marsh got the number three spot and got a ton on a road, Khawaja got declared.

Marsh broke down in SOuth Africa and Khawaja top scored in a successful run chase, the highest on that ground.

Khawaja got run out in Brisbane whilst batting well, then failed in Hobart. Everyone bar Warner basically failed in Hobart. Khawaja dropped again

Marsh has come back in since then and scored 14 runs in 4 innings, whilst every other batsmen has made at least one significant score.

Khawaja is younger, has more first class tons and a much better first class average. Much better batsmen

Added that ton to the list. That was under 2011 instead of 2010/2011 and 2011/2012.

Khawaja did have a poor run of form after the Sydney test (got injured) and through his county stint/zimbabwe tour, admittedly, but he goes to NSW level and just hits runs. He was worth sticking with and doing a better job than Marsh is at present.

Moot point really cos they'll shove Watson in, and Huss and Punter going nowhere I dont think (for better or worse).

Certainly Khawaja should have being selected ahead of Marsh (because twenty20 can not prove match fitness).
They have both slipped behind Cowan and Warner however.

Difficult...come again, was flat which is where his rather poor technique is suited!

My mistake all I remember from the test was bowling Sri Lanka for 174.

We bowled India out on the SCG...doesn't men that it wasn't flat, the pitches in SL are notoriously flat.

Marsh is a gun, i rate the guy very very highly. Of course he needs more runs atm, but he has all the tools. Easily one of the best batsmen to watch when he's going. He's been deadset out of luck this series, i dont recall too many play and misses, he's just edged it and out.

Ive never in any sort of cricket seen Khawaja take control of an attack, certainly not to the extent Marsh can. The 20/20s he's struggled to hit the ball off the square, where as Marsh recently tore a game apart with standard cricket shots.

I rate Khawaja dont get me wrong but my No3 should be able to at least dominate attacks and take games away. I hope they both make it, but for now stick with Marsh, he is one serious talent and one well worth perceiving with. Bring Khawaja in when one of Ponting or Hussey retire.

Khawaja is clearly superior to Marsh technically despite his lack of a century. As every test goes by the selectors decision looks more and more ludicrous and reflects badly on the new panel.

Marsh is talented - no doubt - but I feel, like Khawaja and Hughes, he needs time in the Sheffield Shield to regather his touch and confidence.

I think Punter should be pushed back up to 3 for the time being. When Watson Comes back I'd personally like to see him at 4 or 5. That way he can play attackingly most times, and it should mean he can also bowl a lot of overs. I REALLY rate his bowling and it seems a waste of talent and opportunity if he isn't bowling regularly.

When Punter and Huss retire, then bring in Khawaja and Marsh.

Perhaps it has something to do with having the chance to watch him bat regularly and observe the potential this guy has.

If Khawaja gets into the test team has a lean run of 5 tests, you will all be pushing for the next inform shield player to get a call up. You're expecting a player to come into the side and dominate from the outset, give them a chance.

Out of runs yes, but i cant help feel he's in good form - just good enough to edge em early where as many others this summer play and miss numerous times. I dont see we get a lot from axing him atm, we lack batting talent in Aust and here's a batsman with everything bar recent runs. He's just too good not to stick with imo.
