Just me I think.

Kerrby, I apologise for criticising the greatest console game of all time.

Check out the new HD videos they've put up on gametrailers.

Good Lord!
Thankyou for doing the right thing scooter.

I only have one thing left to say.

I TOLD YOU SO :D!!

Oh man I feels good :p.

Seriously, the first level of what I played is so much fun. The vids are now on the net of that level. I'm just lucky to be one of the first people in Australia to try it :D.

Not really...

Have you played CoD:WaW? People usually avoid getting into a tank. It draws so much attention. If the enemy gets a radar or you start shooting like a mad-man, prepare yourself for a barrage of rockets, grenades and C4.

I thought vehicles worked quite well in the Halo series as well. Even vehicles it the UT series were good. Actually UT perfected it. There were modes with vehicles and modes without vehicles.
Sucked in UT, CoD is better outside the vehicle, so no point, all the Battlefields, I hated them in Halo.

Just hate vehicles in which people hop in and spam...

This is of course in reference to normal DM modes and TDM...

i'm with zarko all the way...i flipping hate vehicles in FPS

they have a place in them sure...but they need to be in a full separate mode

IGN have another fairly extensive preview up now that the single player embargo is up. Joystiq also have an article up.

Those single player videos from the last page were awesome, just 2 more months left now before we all finally get to play it.

I think they definitely have a tactical in objective based games like capture the flag. Not so much in deathmatch.

Tanks are a stupid addition to any FPS in my opinion...but something like the warthog on halo, basically a jeep with a machine gun on the back, is fine.

Mainly because its as always as easy to get a warthog, as it is the rocket launcher, spartan laser or missile pod. All weapons that will take the warthog down in one hit. Its balanced

It also helps when there are areas you can't get vehicles into... If anyone has played Battlefield 2142, the Walkers were a bitch, but they were fairly limited in non-vehicle levels (Except Gibraltar)

Of course that game was ruined by commanders and constant spamming of aerial attacks.

That game was awful. Even BF2 got on my nerves pretty quick with the chopper and jet spam

Killzone 2, will NOT be a February 17th release date, instead it will be ten days later on the 27th.

Tonight, X-Play brought you the release date for Killzone 2, the highly-anticipated FPS from Guerrilla Games and Sony!

That date: February 27, 2009 for the United States. There is no word on other territories yet.

There were a lot of rumors about the 17th, but it will be 10 days later. Get your pre-orders in!
Also information on the innovative "Warzone" gametype.

The "Warzone" gametype, which can be seen in the video, rotates through all the available gametypes as the match plays out. It could start as a team deathmatch game that transitions to a capture & hold game as one team gains a foothold. Score too many points and you could find yourself the target of a VIP assassination game.

Some people ask why it is we think the PS3 has so much potential, well Killzone 2 is the answer, and also the fact that it runs at 60% of the PS3's SPU power!

THAT IS POTENTIAL!

KILLZONE 2 ONLY USING 60% OF SPU'S OVERALL POWER
Speaking in IGN's latest Play Beyond podcast, Jeff Haynes revealed that even during the heaviest loads, Killzone 2 utilizes roughly only 60 per cent of the SPU's.

"It's incredible to see huge levels and see the deferred rendering and note that on all the SPU’s, even on the heaviest load were coming up to about 60%," Haynes said. "They weren't coming close to maxing out. .They had about 40% of space before they started tripping or saw slow down on some of the processes."

Furthermore, Haynes noted that the preview codes recently distributed to various media outlets were of an alpha build of the title, and have since been polished up . Visiting Guerilla Games in Amsterdam, Haynes was shown an updated version of the game, mid to late beta, noting that elements such as lighting, cut scenes, glitches, load times, have all been optimized.

Killzone 2 is due out exclusively on PlayStation 3 on February 27, 2009.

The A.I in this game looks pretty good.
Butt shuffle to cover:

Actually, what game has the best AI ever?
I can't say that I've seen a game with awesome A.I before.

If a first party developer has a game that has taken four years to make but can only take advantage of 60% of theoretical power.....

that should tell you that there is some serious bottlenecks in the PS3 hardware.

imo..... if they had left out bluray, they could have added a heap more ram, and a better videocard and have kicked the x360's arse from the beginning :/

Personally I would say F.E.A.R would be the best, had a great mix of flank attack and cover attack, HL2's is pretty good and is a wide known benchmark for AI.

Or they could've just been wanting to get the most possible for this game, therefore spending enough time developing it, and the game is well on the way to becoming the best FPS ever.

Just because it has taken 4 years to make doesn't mean it is because of the system, plenty of games take a long time to make, it's not just to do with the system.

BTW I don't think many games would use near 60% of the SPU.

midori, help me out on this one.
As far as I understand, the PS3 has an awesome CPU, but a crapola GPU and not enough RAM?

I don't want to derail the thread so I'll keep it simple

Gran turismo 5
FF13
Killzone 2

all will have taken four years plus to have been developed

The average console lifecycle is about 5-6 years before a successor is released

it is definitely the complexity of the hardware that is causing these long expensive development timetables.

not a crapola gpu..... it about the same as the x360 (but the x360's gpu uses a more modern unified shader architecture so its slightly more advanced). However Sony had one year extra to take advantage of better technology.

All consoles don't have enough ram because its expensive......but the Sony could have afforded to add more ram and a more modern videocard which would have totally and utterly wiped the x360 off the floor if Bluray wasn't a factor.

and that is all I'll say on the subject.....as I said....don't want to derail the thread anymore.

seems to be coming together nicely.

at 1up David Ellis has played the press preview 6 times. He really really likes the single player campaign.

They also seem to think it is easily the best looking console game.

It does look staggering already and they have three months to add final polish to the game. it would indeed be an extra ordinary looking game if it makes the same graphical improvements as Motorstorm2 did.

The PS3 GPU was added as an afterthought when they realised they weren't able to get the CPU structure to work as they had planned. It's definitely underpowered. That probably means though that if developers can get it right, there's potential power there.

Using 60% processing power doesn't mean much though, more detail would be good.

Agree, I'd say FEAR has been the toughest AI I can recall

Thing is, every FF and every GT spends about 4 or 5 years in development. Especially the first iterations on new consoles.
