Looking very sharp indeed.

I'm looking forward to this. Feb '09??

yeh i'm pretty sure it's been slated as a feb '09 release.

also there's a multiplayer gameplay vid on gametrailers that i watched last night....i'll look for it and post since it's pretty cool as well.

Early reports are suggesting the single player mode seems pretty linear, and that the game is very polished, but very much a case of a linear, generic shooter. Some complaints have centred around the fact a lot of the released footage is constantly in that grey/brown tone (I know its meant to be set on the Helghast's home world, so it isn't a pretty place) and that the palette doesn't deviate from that much at all. Much like Gears of War I guess.

Looks a little bit better than the older videos.
Out of all these gameplay videos, I've seen about 2 guns in total.
It's looking pretty, but not much else....

yeh i think i remember reading about the linearity of the single player quite a while back....

who knows what they've done to address this. if anything.

either way the single player will just be a warm up to the multiplayer (for me anywayz...) which is what i'm looking forward to the most.

and also the complaints about the colour palette is stupid. they want colour they can download lemmings or play uncharted.
or are they wanting a nice pretty garden in the middle of a warzone?

here's the multiplayer vid i was talking about

feb '09 can't come soon enough!

The MP aspect definitely looks good.

That sniper part on the video was amazing. Not normally a fan of the sniper class, but that one looked very cool.

I was going to say the same thing. People want bright and colourful, then perhaps post apocalyptic war games aren't their thing (and that's not directed at you Karl, just commenting on your comment).

You want bright colours, play Kameo, LBP, R&C, BK etc.

IMO one of the things that made Gears look so great was the drab nature of the environments. It makes it look a hell of a lot more gritty that way.

Definitely looking forward to KZ2. It's moved up a notch or two on my most wanted.

The linear nature of the campaign is not too much of a worry for me, I think like you saif camo, the MP will be where this game is at

Do I see destructible environments, or is it just 'scripted' destruction?

at a guess i'd say you're seeing destructible environments that happen to be scripted ;)

seriously though i have nfi...

but at a guess i'd say most things would be destructible due to the somewhat apparent realistic nature of the game (with from all reports weighted feel of the guns etc.....not so much sniper cloaking lol)

ok hbk....you're the dirt digger

Killzone 2 Multiplayer Hands-On(5 good things)
I spent the better part of an hour today playing through several rounds of Killzone 2 multiplayer at Sony's Games Convention 2008 headquarters, and rather than spend several paragraphs lying about how well I did, I figured I'd just round up the finer points of the session and present them here in easy-to-ingest numbered form.

5. Combat Itself: Killzone 2 multiplayer manages to maintain the fluid speed of the single player experience without sacrificing the looks that get the game featured in so many “look how pretty this game is” magazine spreads. Combat takes place at the perfect speed for me - not Unreal quick, but not Lost Planet slow. Just right.

4. Spawning Mechanics: Dying in Killzone 2 multiplayer brings up a map of possible spawn points, as well as a camera displaying what is going on at each locations, allowing you to pick the location that best fits your play style. When playing with a squad, players can choose to respawn on their squad leader to get right back into the action. Very handy when your squad leader finds himself all alone guarding an objective with tons of enemy inbound.

3. The Badge System: The Badge system represents the different classes you can play in multiplayer, from scout to engineer to medic. Each of the six badges have their own skill sets. Where Killzone 2 makes things interesting is that you can combine the power of two badges to create your own class based on your own particular play style. Want an engineer with healing skills? A stealthy soldier with a bazooka? Knock yourself out!

2. Dynamic Missions: Instead of playing one mission type and then waiting for the new map to load before beginning another, Killzone 2 features dynamic missions, which allows you and your friends to play through multiple game types on one map without loading.

1. Fully Destructible Toilets: Yes, I checked.

While I never was a big fan of the original game, Killzone 2's multiplayer is definitely an impressive effort. Of course the experience of playing with 8 people in the same room when you can yell at them when they team kill you is one thing, and true online multiplayer is another, but they are off to a very entertaining start.
So, it looks like destructible environments might not just be scripted.

PS: I don't know the quality, or what is in the 20 minute gameplay vid.

Killzone 2's campaign may have just got a little less linear, with the huge hinting of a maximum 4 player co-op campaign.

KILLZONE 2 TO FEATURE FOUR-PLAYER CO-OP CAMPAIGN?
A recent hands on preview posted by PlayStation World UK editor Ian Dean has hinted that Guerilla Games’ upcoming shooter Killzone 2 will feature four-player campaign co-op.

The company has already confirmed that a post-launch patch will add co-op play to Killzone 2, though it was unclear as to how many players would be supported and whether it would be offline or online only.

"And then there’s the four-player co-op campaign to look forward to. Now that really could be something special," wrote Dean.

Killzone 2 is set to release February 2009 and a mutliplayer beta for press is expected to launch sometime later this year. Stay tuned to PSU.com for more information as we've contacted Sony for official confirmation.

It's very slowly warming the insides.

One of my early complaints was that there is only like 3 guns seen so far in all the videos i've watched. A machine gun, a pistol and a rocket launcher. What's with that?

BTW, it still doesn't make Killzone 1 a good game.

But those graphics are just mind blowing. The grenade explosions are amazing and the semi-destructible environments adds to the eye candy. On top of all of that, the framerate looks rock solid. This game could lead to good things for the PS3.

OMFG

now THAT is what you call incredible

now i have little to no concern about the gameplay.....i just hope before the game comes out they set the zoom to be hold for as long as you need it rather than click on click off which is a terrible method
they seemed to hip shoot 99% of the time anywayz (even in the other vids)

looks like the brightness on the tv will need to be turned up a lil though

The click on/click off method of zooming in Resistance: FoM really annoyed the hell out of me after I played CoD4. I haven't really played it since because of the controls. Thank god R2 has fixed it this time.

It's still scary to think that there could be some room for improvement before it gets released in about 3-4 months.

That's actually a really good inclusion, the shoot from the hip as the main use of a weapon, there was someone a while ago who had a go at games such as COD4, Far Cry 2 and many other FPS's using the iron sights as the main use of aiming in higher powered guns, this guy had been in the army and knew alot about guns, and said that it is really quite unrealistic to shoot many of the high powered guns using the iron sights as they are too hard to keep an aim with, so basically while those games preached realistic gameplay, it was very unrealistic, and with Killzone 2 the shoot from the hip style they will have ultra realistic graphics, as well as having ultra realistic gameplay as well.

i always thought that was a bit weird in cod4 how the guns like the saw etc would be lifted up to eye sight so much....coz that would be hard as **** to do while running around...that gun would weigh a shitload i'm assiuming

but to be fair on the game it does work amazingly well.....not everythin has to be perfect

Usually fired prone in the real world...be a bastard to have to do that in a game tho so that's understandable.

Assault rifles however, are rarely fired blind, or in full auto. Most military use is single shot, looking down the sights at targets at medium to long range.

Blind fire an assault rifle from the hip in full auto in the real world, unless the guy is standing 5meters in front of you, you're not going to hit shit.

Here is what I was basing my post off.

Far Cry 2's weapons. Most people would compare FC2 and just about every other shooter to the acclaimed COD4 when it comes to weapon realism and authenticity.

As a former Marine DM and 3X expert shooter who has fired just about every weapon in COD4 I must admit it feels very life like and true in nature. Although it doesn't compare to the real thing I honestly feel you cant get any closer when using a controller. COD4's realistic approach in general is the only modern time shooter to date that puts me back into the days of being in the "Sand Box" or back in combat. The explosions, sound, gunfights (although AI scripted) are so real its amazing. Because of these features and so many more COD4 has stood on a throne of its own (Halo the closest in the running).

Ubisoft Montreal is trying to bring that same greatness to Far Cry 2 and in my research and opinion is doing a great job doing so. But I have a small complaint with the weapons. Well really not the weapons but how they are fired.

The Complaint:

Just like COD4 and so many other FPS's why is it necessary to always fire through the sights. Any military person or gun shooter will agree that not every weapon is effective when shooting through the sights. I find this a very unrealistic approach to gaming and wish it would be redone or changed completely. Certain weapons such as pistols, certain rifles, and scoped rifles I understand, but an AK, SAW, Uzi, and many other would be silly to use iron sights. I would never look down the sights of an AK (which I fired on many occasions). I might sweep the rear sights but to totally aim in would be pointless.

Only precision weaopns should be fired through iron sights IMO. Any 0331 will confirm that even though it can be done firing a 249SAW looking through the sights is not practical or easy and would take away from the effectiveness of the weapon.

Too many first person shooters give a bad misconception that every gun is fired through the sights to give a better aim or hit on the target. I'm not saying that this feature shouldn't be in games but there should be a type of negative effect for firing a non precision weapon precisely. I know it might sound stupid or senseless but I really find it annoying and unrealistic.

Instead of having a aim in feature maybe a sweeping feature or have the player fire from the hip when dealing with certain weapons. Or better yet give us a free aim where we don't have to be forced to aim in to fire a shot. Although I have this little complaint in FC2 I will still purchase it and enjoy every minute of looking down the sights (LOL). But I wish it wasn't the only shooting method in the game.

with Killzone 2 the shoot from the hip style they will have ultra realistic graphics, as well as having ultra realistic gameplay as well.

As Mancey has said, not really. You wouldn't see much auto firing from the hip in real life either, at least not aiming for a specific target.

The official KillZone 2 PAL Boxart.

I've seen a few videos of this game and it looks better all the time. I wonder how long it'll take for them to add the offline co-op.

As well as having Crysis-esque graphics, it has some CoD4-esque gameplay.
The online community support sounds awesome.
You can make a clan, and then send out invites to another clan to battle. They have a 'valour' system where you can battle for points. You can send how many points you bet and the game mode and options and then wait until they accept, or they can send back revised options and increase the points and see if you accept.

"The bigfooty clan has raised your bet by 2 buttons, an Alf pog and their leader, Chief."
