Now is the time to retire, before the Derby. Play one last game, and then move on to the next phase of his life. Its time for a cleanout, and Belly even though he's been a great servant it's time. Also, Shaun Mac, Matt Carr, Cooky, Parker, et al.
Dead set blasphemy!

Apparantly Bell's manager and WC have held discussions about Peter getting a role at the club. Not sure who instigated the talks or how far down the line they are but I found it interesting nonetheless.

And before you ask I heard it from a bloke who works at a WAFL club, he's been around the traps, no reason to make it up.

I didnt even think Bell would want to get into coaching?

Perhaps he's looking at representing a couple of your blokes in court.

That's the point !! He's done it all, he's got 2 flags, he's pl,ayed 300 games. He's the greatest Korean to have played the game. He's a star, it's time for him to move to greener pastures. He knows it, and we've got to deal with it.

No you think bell should retire because YOU want him to.

Poster formally known as TheOrangeApple (Fruitboy for short) - you do dribble the most inordinate amount of carp for someone who claims to "know a lot about footy".

The likelihood of Belly's people instigating such talks are nil and zero - hopefully it progressed no further than "out of courtesy we'll meet with you to hear what you have to say, but really... we're not interested." :thumbsd:

He probably is, but if he doesn't want to do it anymore ???
I reckon now is the time to let a new coach have a fresh start. We haven't had a rsing star nomination in two years, for christ's sake.
Its time for some kids in the middle, not Carr's, Bell, Haselby, McManus.
They are all slow with bad habits, we need some youthful enthusiasm with a J Carr and/or Haselby in there for support.

I can't believe that you would group someone like Belly in the same category as M Carr and McAnus!

We have midfield problems and those 2 are a BIG part of it - they are shite and don't deserve to be out there any more. I think McAnus IS AND HAS been a huge problem for FFC. He is widely popular - god only knows why, coz he is crap - and yet he gets a game. I challenge anyone to name a team where McAnus would get a game other than Freo....there isn't one. When CC took over he should have 'cleaned out' this so called club leader and he did drop him for a while. Somehow, through poor midfield planning more than anything else, he got back into the team. But his decision making is bad, his disposal is poor, he gives away stupid frees - EG in goal square in dying minutes against the roos. He is second to the ball, which gives him a relatively high tackle count. He can't kick a goal on the run from 50 like so many other AFL standard midfielders. I saw him on the weekend drop a simple chest mark inside 50 with no pressure. The thing is, THIS IS NOT NEW FOR HIM. He was playing exactly the same way 5 years ago. HE IS CRAP, AND HAS BEEN FOR A LONG, LONG TIME. (Sorry I feel i have to 'yell'). HE gives the young guys bad habbits.

Bell on the other hand. If he doesn't want to play anymore he is doing a great job fooling me. He is playing well, kicking goals, and is the sort of guy you want to have the young guys learning from. He is in our best players week in week out, even though he is slow. If he is hesitant about playing next year, it would be absolutely disgraceful if the club didn't try everything in its power to persuade him to go around again.

The sad thing is I think the administration would just say "cheers belly, all the best" if he wanted to retire

You must be a classy individual. Mc Anus hey?

Calling a guy that has come back from 2 knee recon's, has always tried his heart out and has had a long AFL career names is just plain stupid.

Would you say it to his face?

Mc Manus is the kind of character you want at a footy club. If you recruit all athletes and 'potential' stars you end up where we are now.

You must be his relative if you think this man's time isn't up.

If you watch him you will notice that NO opposition teams bother marking him. Which means in every game one of our best midfielders has an extra player. When you take into account the fact that he gives away the ball with free kicks... and then all his 'clangers' when he obtains his 'miracle' possessions. Well, he ends up costing us roughly three players.

So when people like you bullshit on and on about him being the 'heart and soul' of the club... well frankly I yawn. Because, it is a FOOTBALL team. Any idea that the heart of a club is held by someone with zero (to minus) ability is beyond me... and is directly responsible to the position we are in now. While it might sound cruel, people like McManus are an example to his teammates that you can basically crawl around the oval and as long as you are nice you won't be fired. These guys need a fright. It isn't school.

Why can't the heart and soul of the club deliver drinks?

And, before you all start banging on about him playing 300 games etc. Don't bother go and say it to his face and prolong this poor man's suffering.

Do you know we drafted NO midfielders last year?

NONE.

Even forgetting about the Tarrant trade, that's a shocking fact.

When Bell goes, we're GONE.

Absolute **** up.
It'll be a shock to Brock O'brien, Chris Smith, Andrew Foster to find out they're no longer midfielders. Foster has been playing midfield in the seniors all year.

The reason you yawn is you've made up your mind already, and no amount of rational thought is going to change your mind.

That you can't see the obvious is testament to your judgment. If MacManus was as bad as you say he wouldn't be getting a game.

You live in a dream world. You dont know what Peter Bell wants or thinks.

I am not going to bother to reply to your personal insult because I never said I knew alot about footy (feel free to find evidence on the contrary). Better still, find evidence of this carp you are talking about. Nearly everything I have said on this board has been agreed to by Freo posters.

And BTW Kouta is retiring due to a degenerative injury, where's Bells degenerative injury?

Bell has had groin problems (related to OP according to the media) for some time - apparently its one of those 'managed' situations that nonetheless does make life hard for the little guy. Despite that though, he's in great form this year such that he's usually picking up the main tag from oppositions (a honour that went to Hase until his recent turn of form). If he's mentally and physically up for another pre-season etc. then club will have him with open arms. For nothing else other than he is probably the hardest working player in the line up at the mo (perhaps Tarrant and Solli could be put up there too).

As for whether we can do without him in the midfield and a 'new start' argument. With few exceptions, great teams always have a transition phase when it comes to great players. Young players in good teams get a chance to develop with just that little bit less intensity with great players taking the heat towards the end of their years knowing that they either get the attention or they will win games for you. eg. West for Bulldogs, Black and Lappin for Brisbane this year, Cousins and Judd are in a sense doing it for the Wiggles allowing their lesser lights that would be creamed in any other team to get some experience under their belt. IMHO, forgetting next season, for the sake of the future, Bell needs to be around so that the Fosters etc. have 'room' to develop.

Regardless of whether Macca should be dumped from the club because of poor form or not, his services to the club should be highly respected.

One of the major reasons why he is respected so much is because his character and attitude should be set as an example of what we want to see from all our players because if some of the players have half the heart that Macca has we would be a powerhouse.

Dud players do not play 200 games of AFL.

And quite frankly idiots who support Freo and ridicule any player with name calling and then go and bag others for supporting them can go and get stuffed. These are the knobends that are the ones that create infighting and divide within the supporter base aswell as making the supporters an embarrassment.

ahhh.. ummm
That's not entirely true there old bean....
We did indeed recruit midfielders last year..

I think on this one myself and jeffle have made up our minds....I know my mind was made up on McManus 5 years ago. He was an average AFL footballer at best and I stand by that. I definitely don't think he is worthy of 200 games when you consider most other 200 games players are acknowledged as champions outside their own club with things like All Australian selection. That is my whole point. He shouldn't get a game.

These 3 aren't...are they not worthy of 200 games?

Chris Lewis 215 games
Drew Banfield 265 games
Micheal Braun 201 games

Every Eagles supporter will tell you how highly respected they all are. Just as every intelligent Freo fan will tell you the same about McManus.

Braun, aka: Mr Mediocre? Respected for playing 200 games, not respected for ability.

I see McManus as a woeful player and no one could ever convince me I am wrong.

I am like Nicolas Cage in 'Bringing out the Dead' ......... I have seen far too many corpses to see the world as a 'beautiful' place.

Bell is a champion - his form this year in some of the games has been first class. No way he'd be forced into retirement, given his form at the moment.

He's not going to be forced. He's going to do it off his own bat.
He's sick of it !!

I heard Matty Carr on the radio a couple of nights back, he said that Belly was really excited about his plans outside of footy and really looking forward to getting stuck into some different stuff and that the club would be up against it to have him playing in 2008.

He's obviously good enough to go around again, perhaps with a change of coach or perhaps when you get Sheedy to the club in some capacity he might have a change of heart?

You want to rip the heart out of the club by Bell into retirement ???
He will probably end up in your top 5 B & F at the end of the year. He's one of the only consistent contributors for your team.

Move him on and we'll gladly take him on a 2 year contract.
"In & Under" players are like gold.

Freo's problem was getting No. 17 & No. 6 to your club. You guys were
definately on the right path of success with your youth policy. Trying to
buy premierships rather than sticking to the plan....you rolled the dice
and it came up snake eyes.

Get rid of Tarrant & Solomon. They are not the players you think they are.
Having followed Collingwood all my life, Tarrant was a cancer there and the disease is spreading like mad cows. Solomon was just on the fringe at Essendon - struggled to get a game in a team sitting down the bottom of
the ladder. These 2 are not passionate about the club IMO and are
happy with taking home an exhorbitant pay packet.

It's going to healthy for the competition if you can get a flag sooner rather than later and I think Freo lost the plot this year.

Bell to retire - pffttt

It's going to be Bell's choice mate, Freo aren't kicking him out, he's even got a year to run on his contract IIRC.

It's just the word around at the moment is that retirement may well be on the cards. I'm not convinced, it'll be interesting how it plays out.

The decision is entirely up to the man himself. If he wants to play next year we will play him, he has expressed he might give it away at seasons end and if he does then thats his choice.

You should be telling Buckley to retire tho...
