Inspired by Kane on SEN earlier this week, he posed the question to Kingy: "Least appealing teams for the next 5 years?"

His list was...

1. West Coast
2. Port Adelaide
3. St Kilda
4. Carlton
5. GWS

Do you guys agree? Who would be your number 1?

Kane also admitted that things can change quickly, and he had Hawthorn at #1 a few years ago.

I'd probably have to agree with West Coast at number 1. Port would also be up there. I disagree with St Kilda and think they have a fair bit of young talent. Carlton I’d agree with, and GWS I honestly don’t know enough about their youth.

1. Carlton - no real young talent to give supporters hope. Walker looms as a potential top end talent if he ends up there(he should pick them over Richmond based on his dads legacy at Carlton) and Jagga could be another good young kid, but will need to wait until 2026 to get a look at him. Unfortunately for their supporters they're going to see their window close before they even get close. Losing De Koning will be the killer blow

2. Essendon - watching them last night struggle to shake off a very young Richmond side for 3.5 quarters gave me little confidence in them moving forward. Sure they were also missing a few best 23 types, but there isn't really a lot to be giving fans hope for the future.

Essendon's list is similarly placed to Richmonds yet for some reason we don't get the same leeway as teams like Richmond, West Coast and North?

Sorry just don't see anything outside Caddy and possibly Kako in the youth at Essendon that screams out top end talent, especially in the midfield.

West Coast are a massive team with excellent facilities. I'm not sure I'd put them at the top of the list.
Port may be in trouble after losing Houston last year, potentially Bergman this year and maybe Butters next year.

Our midfield had plenty of young players last night who could be part of our next build Caldwell (24), Durham (23), Martin (24), and Perkins (23) and last night, they absolutely dominated your midfield. Your youth in the guts were Sims and McAuliffe? Bit unfair maybe seeing as Nank was out though.

While I agree we missed the mark with drafting the likes Tsatas, as the game has moved past those types, Lalor looks primed to become something very special. We definitely lack some players with elite kicking skills and footy IQ, but with a decent draft hand and cap space, I think we are in a ok place to rectify this.

We've also seen plenty of young players show great signs this year. Roberts and Reid, for example, have performed far better than Caddy or Kako. Also many young guys are performing very well in the VFL this year you met one of them in Clarke last night. (Possibly our 3rd Rising star Nom for the year too)

Most of our older players are not relied upon heavily, aside from Merrett. I expect most, if not all, of our veterans to be moved on. Merrett, being such an elite kick, will probably be shifted to a half-back Zorko-type role. Players like Goldstein, Laverde, Wright, etc., wouldn’t even be playing if not for injuries.

We also have two handy NGA’s coming through this year, and Bewick as a father-son in the next couple of years. This will be an absolute gift, especially considering that it's being reported as one of the most compromised drafts in history with Tasmania coming in.

We are by no means anywhere near the finished product or anywhere near challenging for a flag. However, I just don’t see how anyone can suggest we’re in as bad a position as some other teams out there. We’re performing better than most probably predicted, despite being young and in the midst of a rebuild. Yes, we’re a bottom-four team, 100%, but I believe we’re on the right track.

Also, for those Richmond supporters suggesting, "We were missing Lynch, Balta, and Nank" to justify the result, I would point out that we are also missing Draper, Ridley, Hayes/Bryan who are just as important to us while also dealing with injuries to Reid and Langford during the match. We were definitely more experienced and older last night, although we don't rely on those players who inflate those numbers, and our preferred team would be considerably younger and less experienced. In contrast, Richmond's team would be older and more experienced with their addition. So I do believe we are quite similarly placed.

Cartlon surely have to be number one.

Very likely lose De Koning at season's end. Currently their best player or close to it.
Cripps will be a shell of the player he is by 2027-2028.
Curnow's already 28 years of age with a degenerate knee concern. Highly dubious to see him playing well into his 30's.
Extremely unfortunate to lose a potential star in Jagga Smith (Erron Gulden MKII) to the dreaded ACL injury.

The future looks bloody bleak for this mob.
Curnow has a degenerative knee concern? According to who?

Everyone has been saying we’re going to fall out of the top 8 each pre season for the last 5 years.

Broken clock and all that….

Looking at the average ages of lists, Melbourne and Sydney for me.

Both are among the oldest lists and neither of them are good enough to win a flag imo.

For me the rest are either in flag contention or at least young enough that they might be on the right track.

Sydney have really blown it by going 0-4 in GFs over the past decade. Melbourne at least won a flag.

Port. Then daylight. Then Port

I don't know why Port are so prominent here

They have a great core of guys aged 22-26 to build around IMO.

Butters, Rozee, Horne-Francis, Georgiadis, Lukosius, Mead, Burgoyne, Bergman, Lord, Farrell, Drew, Marshall, Ratugolea. Even Powell-Pepper is only 27 and they have more pieces too.

I guess the counter is that you only need to have a piece of two go home (a la Houston, and now whispers about Butters) and it looks a bit thin. But the same could be said for anyone. A lot hinges on how the players transition across to a new coach, or whether any see a bad 2024 and Ken's exit as a chance to break away
