Some very hypocritical double standards here from people from people saying that he's a terrible bloke for looking at his options elsewhere and wanting a longer contract yet wanting to get tough on him, questioning his commitment to the club and demanding he get dropped to the reserves for a lack of loyalty to the club.

Do people not see the hypocrisy here?

"Hey mate, you're a terrible player and will never amount to anything. Here's a nothing one year deal. What's that... you want a three year contract? I don't care if you're doing what's best for you and the security of your future. Out of spite I will drop you to the reserves and you don't play in our AFL team. What's that you want to leave because we've treated you badly? You're a terrible person for wanting to leave. Oh by the way you're a terrible player I don't care if you've dominated VFL and been solid at AFL I will ignore all rational advanced statistics to analyse you as a player".

That's how it would play out if some of the comments from people here were applied to list management.

I'm more than happy to say that if we sign this bloke to another 3 years I will be ropable.

How long does anyone get to "prove" themselves seriously?

If he doesn't break out by the end of the year get someone else into the list that might make it but of you need longer than that to make it and your are not a tall it should be clear to anyone your not going to make it.

How many reserve games did M Tuck play?

I love how MD conveniently ignores that a year of Jong's development was cut off with a broken leg, one of the worst injuries that you can get.

Funny how that doesn't get mentioned when valuing his commitment and drive as a player.

Oh sorry

4 years and still a maybe that much better

And find one comment where I have questioned his commitment or drive?

As negative as I've been about him you have been unrealistically positive. He isn't about to break out, he isn't important to us going forward, he won't be part of a premiership team and no matter how much you say it simply won't happen.

I'm not the only one who thinks he is Sh!te just the loudest and most consistent. I've been saying it for over 3 years so doesn't that say something?

Clearly you form an opinion and become fixated on it.

I'm not related to Lin. I'm just a person who believes that he's misvalued by this board when over a dozen different posters call for him to be dropped when he's statistically been our 2nd and 8th best player of our last two games.

And I do have form on this matter. With Maccagate at the end of '14 I held a very different view to the majority of the board when we had Jones, Tutt etc. wanting to leave. I defended Cordy and Talia last year when not many did. A lot of the time I'm wrong. But I' m also right a lot of the time, such as other things I've been vocal of on this board, like taking Rough out of defence when the majority wanted him to stay, that McCartney wasn't a good tactical coach (I was one of the first to say) and defending Wallis in 2014 when many were questioning his ability as a player.

So I get very passionate about the Dogs... and I err on the side of supporting the players that pull on the Red, White and Blue.

I don't begrudge him looking after number one but doing it in person mid season at another club I say back of the line son...... He's not good enough to waste anymore time on. Keep playing Webb/Dunks/Dale etc

I'm sure that the visit wasn't arranged by Jong, his manager is the one to blame as he's shopping his asset around to boost his (the managers) income. Player managers don't give a stuff about players, they are just in it to earn the biggest cut they can get and I'd rate them as trustworthy as used car salesmen and politicians.

Imo LJ has has a sit down with the football dept about 2017 and beyond. Whether he, us or both have come to a consensus - who knows, but it's likely that it's come to light that his opportunities will be centered around injuries beyond this year at the club.

If that's the case then good luck to him. Good honest trier but there are many who're first choices ahead of him or neck and neck. Every club needs depth but some players are more ambitious.

For me this is manna from heaven!
Like spindles and tutty and liamj b4 him I have gone into each season thinking Lin will make it this year?let him be Collingwood's whipping boy for the next couple of seasons and good luck!
Play him if required

Seriously?

Jong is an athlete. Dunkley is a footballer. Jong is quicker than Dunkley will ever be.
Dunkley already has football nous Jong may never develop. I don't see them as that similar to be honest, Dunkley will get by on positioning while Jong is more likely to break out from a pack.

Different attributes - same role

This is like when we couldn't beat a good team with him in the side.

I heard on the grapevine that MD has been sighted touring the Collingwood FC banner making facilities. Is a move to the Collingwood Cheersquad on the cards?

On a serious note, I wouldn’t want the club to offer Jong any more than two years and a slightly above average playing salary. He has a lot of potential, with his pace and aerial ability, is good at contested football, and has played some reasonable/good matches over the last season and half. My concern is about his lack of good decision making and awareness, and I’m not sure those skills can be completely developed.

At the moment, Jong is a handy depth player in the 18-28 range on our list (when fully available). I think he has the potential to develop into the 12-18 range (i.e. certain starter every week without being one of our best players) as a best case scenario.

I would be disappointed to see him go as he seems like a good young committed footballer. But, at the end of the day, he is depth midfield and we could cover his loss. If we got a pick in the range of 25-40, then I would back our recruiting team to work some magic in the draft.

Yes at least he could do it discreetly through his manager

Jong should be moved on to the Pies and get something for him (abeit small) he's only depth and don't I get it anymore. For me he has derailed since he broke his hand early last year and been disappointing. Far better players that should be constantly 22 in front of him but always gets called straight back in when players like Webb and Honey church bust there ass off to barely get a look.

Look guys, if the bloke wants to go, let him go. And good luck to him. As long as we don't get Cloke in return. We've already got too many guys who are inaccurate in front of goals thanks.

I don't think that Bev will be that hurt by Jong exploring his opportunities. He spent his entire career as a journeyman and would know more than anyone else that if you're not best 22 then the odds are kinda stacked against you as far as having a decent career ahead of you.
Jong especially has poor odds considering he's an inside mid that's depth for arguably the best performing midfield.

Bev is prett hard so I think u will see an immediate reaction if there is one.

If he doesn't play this week he is pretty much gone imo
