That’s why they need to play; the AFL is a major step up from the SANFL and the only way a player can gain that experience is by playing.

Actually our talent level and depth in the ruck department has never been better IMHO. We have two really promising youngsters who both look to be long term players and a couple of harderend veterans. Sure the kids might get beaten in the ruck but thats the only way they will learn.

So the wash up of that would effectively be McGregor for pick 11, won't happen. Given our thin KPP stocks, if we traded or delisted a KPP this year we would be flirting with disaster.

I agree Springy that we can't afford to trade Stevens/Perrie/McGregor unless it enables us to package an early draft pick.

I would certainly consider trading Biglands, particularly if we could convince Clarke to play on for another year in case Huddo became injured. It would allow us to fast-track Meese & Ivan.

It is in the best interest of all concerned that Clarke retires. He has had a great career and he certainly can walk away with his head held high because his effort over the last couple of months has been sensational. He has truly given it his all in the last couple of months.

I have stated this before, but IMO it is unlikely we can win a premiership with Biglands, so why not trade him?

Next year, we should be fast-tracking Messen & Maric as the #2 ruckmen behind Huddo ... so is it that silly to suggest Clarke plays on as an experienced backup in case Huddo is injured? Convince Clarke by giving him a mentoring/coaching role with Mx2.

Its funny but in the last 24 hours we have heard that we can't win a flag with Biglands, Welsh, Perrie, Doughty, Shirley, Stevens ......

I believe it is critical in having ruckmen with footy smarts, which IMO Biglands doesn't have. We will disagree on Biglands, but I would prefer to develop Meesen, as I believe he will be our best ruckman since Rehn. How valuable was Rehn to our flags?

there isn't a player who was on the ground yesterday, who you can make that statement about.

lets not forget, had we beaten WC, we have a fair record against sydney. we absolutely can beat them. whether we would've, who knows. but we can.

and we had every chance to win yesterday.

My post wasn't meant to blame Biglands for our loss - far from it. There are far less valuable players on our list than Biglands & his injury was not the reason we lost yesterday ... but IMO I believe he doesn't have what it takes to improve much further from being a good honest ruckman to a gun ruckman we need to win a flag. IMO for the future, we are better off fast-tracking Meesen to backup Huddo & hence why not consider trading him?

I think its more a matter of those boys being good enough to play AFL football but having limited opportunities with us. Craigy said that he would trade players who are good enough to play AFL football but might not get the opportunities with us. He thinks he owes them that much which is fair enough IMHO.

Ok its been a long day and I am a little tired.... but if we trade these away for players or picks ...wont those same players and picks get limited opportunities?

It may be rude but I think WW is spot on. If they are good enough they will force their way into the side...to me it seems trading a Skipworth for a Mackie ( eg) puts Mackie in the same spot as Skipworth was...unless the club feel Mackie has a better upside. In any trade we have to win , otherwise its a dead trade AFAIC

Having watched Douglas at SANFL level, he must be persisted with in the Crows team next year, as he is the best young midfield talent on our list.

We also must give more time to Knights too as he is a ball magnet.

I would prefer to trade for higher draft picks (even if they are 2nd/3rd/4th rounders) for a fringe player, rather than take on a fringe player who isn't likely to make our best team.

Really though for a club looking for pace and a 189cm player at that .....I don't think there was any doubt he would get one more year.

BUT at the end of 2007 if he hasn't shown us a determination to correct his weaknesses then IMO he'll be gone.

We are not far away from being a better side - but we need to get one or two class acts into our side to cope with the high quality midfield of the Eagles and other teams, to kick those decisive goals that need to be kicked and to get a ruckman that can take on the best in the business such as Cox.

I would be looking at giving Meeson, Maric and Hudson plenty of game time next year - form permitting. This may help solve the rucking problem.

I would be looking at playing Dougie, Needles, Pfeiffer, Knighter and Weekends in the midfield at various stages next year.

The forward line is most difficult to fix. Weekends could go there. But the need for a good KPP is critical. With pick 14 as our top pick we are likely to get a good player, but one not ready for 2007.

We should be looking at getting a player with some talent who has the capacity to make an immediate impact. Bradshaw is one I would put a significant amount of effort in securing. He can kick a goal and take a good grab.

I would also make a play for the ex-WWT player from Richmond whose name just for the moment escapes me.

Whoever we get he needs to be a person who can kick accurately for goal and take a good grab.

With our top two picks we must endeavour to use one to get a quality KPP who can be our go to man in 3-4 years time and another to get a quality midfielder, with some real pace.

Schultz would be a player worth targeting - more so than Bradshaw IMO, we already have Welsh & Roo, & are more in need of pack marking KPP's.
