Chris Knights and Troy Chaplin heading to Richmond according to The Age.
Do we play chicken with Richmond and match their offer to Chaplin to set up a trade (especially if Thomas is also heading that way as rumoured by a couple)?
I reckon match it Ford.
Even if Chappy forces a trade - at the very least we get a first round draft pick that isn't lost in the musical chairs of free agency trading.
Plus it means we can still play the FA game (we don't lose picks, with the AFL compensating the opposing club on our behalf) and get Moloney etc.
The market doesn't have that many quality talls --> to the point where Chappy is considered one.
So we can extrapolate the results of matching to be ...
1. we retain a KPP in the context that there are few (if any) quality KPP on the market anyway.
or
2. if Chappy requests a trade then seek a first rounder as compensation
To that end would like us to match any offer for Pearce and Chappy. They can still contribute to our club if retained.
