We have someone, he's just so injury prone we don't play him in the duel role.
Nah we don't.

Dixon is getting gangbanged week in week out because we are missing that second 200cm/100kg+ player in our forward structure.

It's not doing his body or his confidence any good.

We need to draft or trade in a ready made midfielder that we can slot into the side immediately and release Robbie Grey to spend more time up forward.

I think the forward lines is where Robbie plays his best football.
If Boak can lift to what he did a few years ago and then also wingard goes into the midfield. It would us to put gray up foward

I am so flat about our list.

We pretty much backed ourselves into a corner and we commited alot to this playing group.
I'm still pretty excited by it.

I reckon with a bit of tweaking it can be a fantastic list;

Exit Lobbe and half a dozen fringe players who aren't going anywhere.

Enter a big KPF and another midfield gun. Put some 2016 draft talent into the stables.

Shake up the coaching structure and revise the game plan.

Start manning up in defense and playing accountable football in the back half.

Spread more in attack and start making genuine leads into space.

Quit just bombing the ball forward to a contest then trying to scrap for it on the ground.

Start hitting a target and bring that disposal efficiency under control.

Then roll on 2017.

i love your enthusiasm, but thats a lot of change. I too havent given up on our list. I think its 80% coaching and strength that is the problem. the other 10% is the Mitchells etc of our team that keep getting a game and other 10% being nonperforming stars. You might say i'm lenient on the last one, but shape up the coaching and watch the dramatic improvement.

Same. I also fear that we may have signed up a few players during our fitness boom which inflated their worth. Now they've regressed back to their true capabilities.

I don't really know how it all works but we should have cap to spare given our ladder position in the last two years. Maybe we do. Maybe the gus and Paddy cash will be the silver lining.

Can't argue with most of that.

I know I bang on about it but I truly believe that if we want to be a serious threat in 2017 then our forward structure absolutely needs to be bolstered by a second big KPF (200cm/100kg), preferably one that can support Ryder in the ruck.

Ok I'll be more specific;

Lobbe
Carlisle
Schultz
Stewart
Colquhoun

All gone from the senior list.

Replace with;

Big KPF
Another walk-in Midfielder
2017 draftees (target Midfield/KPF)

IMO that would provide more depth where we need it as well as balance the list out a bit.

How exactly are we going to get these players? We might get a late 2nd pick for Lobbe but that's it. We aren't in a position to trade for anyone, unless we give up something of value (i.e. Hartlett, Westhoff)

Plus you'll need to draft two ruckmen. We're already 1 short as it is.

There's free agency. We can't afford a star but Howlett could be a useful, big body midfielder and Vickery could replace Schulz and Butcher. If you start talking better players than these, I think you'd be getting into the $400,000 pa range which I doubt we can afford.

Schulz, Carlile and Lobbe would clear some space, we will have around 1 million due to the Ryder and Monfries issue. Easily could front end a contract.

Contracting a guy on good money who promises Dan Hannebery yet gives Nick Suban until 2021 is the sort of stuff you read about on old NBA blogs.

Free agency.

Id like to see us secure a KPF who is a genuine forward, but can help out in the ruck if required. Vickery is exactly who I have in mind.

Trengove, Westhoff and even Dixon can help share the ruck load when required so ruck depth wouldn't be an issue IMO.

Vickery... god no

As for relying on Trengove again if Ryder goes down again. No thanks. Frampton will have another year under his belt, but we need more.
If we had a second 200cm/100kg KPF who can also be a ruck option in a pinch then we wouldn't have to rely on Trengove if Ryder went down.

It also means we wouldn't be completly screwed if Dixon went down.
