List Mgmt. List management thread.

Does anyone know the AFL rules in regards to list turnover? I know there is a minimum amount of players that must be bought in by each club every year which obviously results in delistings too.

Also, do delisting of rookies count as player turnover?
I think we need to have three live senior selections in the draft. Promoting a rookie counts as a live selection. Delisting rookies doesn't count in terms of player turnover ie we can't delist three rookies and zero senior listed players

Collingwood: The Pies already boast one of the best midfields in the competition but are believed to be interested in Mundy. Mackay and Rosa could also appeal as cheaper on-ball options.

DAVID MUNDY (Fremantle)
State of play: The big-bodied midfielder has attracted significant interest from opposition clubs, particularly in his home state of Victoria. The biggest issue with Mundy is his age. The restricted free agent turns 30 next July so teams might be wary of offering him anything more than a two-year contract. Mundy will have to weigh up pursuing a historic first premiership at Fremantle against a return to Victoria.

The Dockers' efforts to re-sign him are complicated by the fact Nat Fyfe is also out of contract and, at 22, is a greater priority. It is understood recent reports that Mundy is close to re-signing are incorrect.

What would it take? Mundy can expect to earn about $600,000 a season if he remains with the Dockers. To poach him, opposition clubs will have to offer $650,000-$700,000 a season. Freo could look to sign Mundy on a two-year deal, in which case an opposition club might tempt him with a three or four-year deal.

What compensation would Fremantle get? First-round or end-of-first-round selection.

We say: Will re-sign with Fremantle.

TYSON GOLDSACK (Collingwood)
State of play:
Contrary to recent reports, Goldsack has not opened contract negotiations with Collingwood. His manager, Anthony McConville, told AFL.com.au he did not expect talks to start until the second half of the season. Goldsack's currency is on the rise after a strong start to 2014 as a defensive forward and his versatility will appeal to some teams. But others see him as a third tall and will target genuine key-position players instead.

What would it take? Collingwood is likely to offer Goldsack about $325,000 a season, with a rival team probably needing to offer $375,000-400,000 to trump it.

What compensation would Collingwood get? A third-round pick.

We say: Will re-sign with Collingwood late in the season.

MATT ROSA (West Coast)
State of play:
The Victorian midfielder told AFL.com.au two weeks ago that he did not expect to start contract negotiations with the Eagles until later this year, but admitted returning home had crossed his mind. Rosa, 27, has re-established himself in West Coast's team this year after an injury-plagued 2013, his form having attracted the interest of opposition teams.

What would it take? A rival club would probably have to offer Rosa $400,000 a season, perhaps as part of a three-year deal, to pry him away from West Coast.

What compensation would West Coast get? An end-of-second-round pick.

We say: If he remains unsigned towards the end of the season, Rosa will get offers from Victorian clubs. A 50/50 chance of staying at West Coast.

Mundy would definately appeal to me if we finish top 4 this year and make a prelim. It would show that we are not far off the pace and could afford to have a crack at the big dance with a taller, big-bodied midfielder.

If we are well off the pace at the pointy end of this season, I would be happy just developing our own mids

Higgins is playing some pretty good footy at the moment and he's a free agent at the end of the year, 186cm HBF with excellent foot skills.

So far this season Mundy has averaged less clearances than Beams and Pendlebury.

He is probably the best Free-Agent for us this season but Doubt he leaves the Dogs

I don't think for the price Mundy would add enough to our side. He is a great player but is it overkill with an already stacked midfield?

Mundy doesn't have to play as a full time midfielder. He has the ability to play multiple positions and he'd be one of many who can rotate into our midfield.

This year what the Collingwood midfielders have done is all sacrifice their games and their midfield minutes so that those on the ball can provide more meaningful minutes and run harder. Mundy would only add to that as yet another component who can play some meaningful midfield minutes and rotate back or forward the rest of the game and still play excellent footy with his height, size, skillset and athletic traits.

Mundy will turn 30 next season so he's not going to command the salary of a star 20-25 year old but being a late bloomer with with his versatility I feel he represents value as someone who can play good footy into his 30s.

Thoughts on Higgins Knightmare? Would seem like a genius recruitment since he wouldn't cost too much and fills a need, almost like Young a few years ago.

Shaun Higgins is having a strong season. Only 26 years of age. But I expect he'd be very expensive to add with clubs generally going with the last thing they see which surely bumps up Higgins' price.

I was thinking about him a little earlier in the season and with his versatility and skills he'd be a list fit, but with his relative lack of durability and with his likely very high price-tag and as someone who may still have his best footy in front of him I'm not convinced he'd be a wise recruiting choice.

As targets I'm only really interested in Mundy as a free agent then perhaps one of Dempster or Patfull via trade if they can be had on the cheap in the scenario Maxwell leaves. Otherwise I'm pretty content to leave the list as is and go a minimal list turnover strategy and build through the draft.

Well if Mundy is the only option for Free Agency then we might as well forget about Free Agency

Mundy would require too high a salary for us I reckon. We don't need him anywhere near badly enough to offer up those big dollars.
Concentrate on making sure Beams is signed up. He has already signed contracts for lower cash knowing his time will come. He even said it himself.
Now is his time for him to reap some financial rewards.

I think our backline is handling itself quite well. They are young and hungry. We also have Brown and Ried (when fit) to come into the side. I wouldnt think it would be smart to recruit a 30yo defender to replace Maxwell for a couple of seasons

Does anyone know if there was Collingwood representation at the USA combine? I saw north melbourne and freo reps in the vid....I think they said there was 6 clubs in attendance?

Yeah, Hine went

Depends entirely on how close we feel we are to contending.

If we're a top four team looking to take that next step I wouldn't dismiss the possibility. When we brought in Jolly and Ball that's what beyond our player development took us over the edge in 2010.

Patfull and Dempster are no scrubs. They're both top 5 general defenders in the competition so they contribute to winning, and for a late pick if that can happen. As a contending team it's only going to help the young back half develop.

600k for a average paced 30 yo when we already have a very good midfield and also a good group of mids pushing up underneath? No ty.

We need more silk, X-factor and speed.

I assume your talking about Mundy. He is not an averaged paced 30yo. He is a big bodied quality 30yo. I would take him in a heartbeat if we finish top 4 this year to add a lot of depth to our midfield. If we had him now he would be pushing the likes of Thomas, ball, adams etc out of the team. We would have a fab 4 - Pendles, Swan, Beams, Mundy

They should get 2 at a time let them learn together and push each other.

200cm 2.81 20sec, 90cm verts make Natuini seem normal, Shae Mac also didn't have these times/results.

Also it say's a scout from Pies no mention of Hine how do we know he went and not Rendell or other?

my dad sat next to him on the flight to New York and (in addition to confirming that we are taking Darcy Moore and making him our centre half forward of the future) he told dad that after visiting some of the new york teams to learn more about salary cap strategy, he was heading to the US trials. That was probably the biggest hint for me.......
