Dahlhaus is an excellent signing for Geelong. He’s at right age and is that half forward/midfielder who can kick 30+ goals and average over 20 disposals a game.
lol. He's never kicked over 30 goals in his career, even when played solely as a fwd.

Reckon the dogs will find a nice player in the draft with the Dahlhaus pick they nailed one with Richards.

It's going to be used on West. If we got 2nd band compo like Geelong got for Motlop then we'd have traded it off for a solid player but someone is going to bid on West by the start of the 2nd round.

What do you mean?...

He's averaged 26 possessions 0.7 goals 5.2 tackles a game in 2015

You'd think he can reach 1 goal mark by playing more forward and less midfield.

He's kicked 24 goals from 60 games in the past 3 years and is genuinely struggling to make the distance from 35-40 out sometimes. He's not going to be a goalkicking forward like Geelong wants him to, he'll tackle his guts out as a pressure forward but he just has lost all finishing ability around goals.

Agree I suspect Geelong wouldn't need him to be a goal kicking forward either.

They already have plenty to work with in the forward line with Hawkins/Menzel/Possibly Danger/Menegola etc etc. Dahlhaus as a pressure forward is perfect, especially since this recruitment costs them virtually nothing.

Can't imagine him being overly expensive either.

I remember watching him this year taking a set shot from 35-40 meters out. Barely made the distance to hit the behind post.

If Geelong brought him in as a forward, they've already lost.

Yup exactly. Geelong are already quite a high scoring team; something like 4th for points scored. A main issue though is that if they don’t score teams just waltz it out if there. Cats just need him to tackle and create a lot of forward pressure and they will be happy with that. That’s the exact reason he was recruited

You got Band 3 compo. An extra pick where your 2nd rounder would be, not end of first round.

Similar deal to Motlop, but different compo. Good old AFL "secret formula" compo...

500k x 4 was enough for the Dogs to say no in that role, offering around a million across 3 (3 x 325 apparently), having been made redundant as an inside mid

Geelong would want him to deliver there imo

Motlop's deal was apparently around $500k, whilst Dahlhaus is apparently around $450k, hence the difference. Though the AFL should make its formula available to clubs, they are probably worried about teams manipulating it which is fair, but we need some open transparency to hold the AFL accountable in circumstances which may be questionable otherwise and make sure some clubs didn't get over compensated and others under.

Whoa, I never would've guessed. What an excellent, thoughtful post.

Why would Geelong wants Dalhaus to deliver as inside mid?

Well the 'secret' formula got Ablett to the Cats. Say no more.

You're not following my post correctly

500k over 4 is a big whack for just a pressure forward which you're saying isn't much. It absolutely is, he'll be in Geelongs top dozen paid players now I'd imagine.

He was playing this pressure forward role with runs as a high half forward for most of this season yet did absolutely bugger all, so we didn't value his wage demands that high. He was moved out of midfield last year.
