Nah, he was always gonna cost us 2 first rounders. It's throwing the 2nd rounder in for no reason at all outside of getting the trade done a few days early before the trade deadline. Legit just a waste, was never needed.
Strongly disagree with this. Ask yourself how much Geelong or Brisbane would have coughed up for an out of contract Jackson. Look what they gave up for Neale, Dunkley, Cameron, etc. Far less than what we gave up for Jackson. A single first plus 2nd (s) should have been the price.

The primary factors at the trade table are proven performance and contract status. Jackson has undeniable potential to become a star player, but you shouldn't pay through the nose due to the unknowns. Will he remain suspect to injury niggles, such as the knee he carried at Melbourne, and the hip he is carrying now? Will he ever be able to fix his marking? He has some of the hardest hands in the comp and drops or double grabs almost every mark.

Even if he becomes the best player in the game, having the best player + first rounder is better than just the best player. People are off the mark when saying the trade is judged on the player Jackson becomes. It should be judged on historical trades and how much other players have gone for, and in that respect Jackson should not have cost 2 x 1st rounders, unless we were getting something back from Melbourne.

Geelong and Brisbane would not have given up the 2nd, they would have given up the extra first. You're undervaluing Jackson as a widely regarded special talent at 20 years old. There is no team ever that could avoid giving up that extra first when our first last year was like pick 14.

If you want to talk about historical trades, find me a top 5 pick (ie JHF) who has performed well and traded in their first 3 years that didnt get two firsts when the first one isnt top 10

Strong trading should have had an extra second coming back to us though, it was pathetic giving up another 2nd ON TOP of the firsts. I'll die on that hill but there's no scenario a team doesnt give up an extra first in our situation

We will take the best available WA kid with your pick then trade him to you for another two first rounders in three years, deal?

If that best WA kid is as good as LJ then i'll happily be on board for that.
