With the possible retirement of our two best forwards in Hall and O'Loughlin, our forward line will be non-existant next year if we cannot find a ready made replacement. We have no key fowards that can carry the load next season with the likes of Grundy, White and Playfair clearly not good enough. Johnstone is too young and O'Keefe seems to be better in the midfield and although Goodes will be great as a permanent forward, we need his explosiveness around the packs.

I believe that Jarryd Roughead is out of contract at the end of the season (correct me if I'm wrong) and that we need to make a serious play for him. He's only 22 years old and fits the bill perfectly.

Thoughts?

Hawthorn would be asking for more than you would be willing to give. Draft one with your first pick and be patient :)

ROK + Buchanan + Ablett

We can throw in a first round pick if they wish...

His young

Great ability

Huge presence

And will be around at our next tilt at a flag unlike maybe ROK.....

Agree to their demands and try and draft him in... He is a dead set gun

If we can find a trade for him I say do it!!!

I agree completely. Draft another young one, sign Barry Hall and Michael O'Loughlin for another season and wait for Lewis Johnston and the 2009 draftee (another tall forward) to develop.

That would be the ideal scenario. I think that both Hall and O'Loughlin could play on for one more year. But if they do retire, as Roos has said on a number of occasions, we cannot afford to bottom out and finish towards the bottom of the ladder.

If we pick up another young key forward that would be great, but in the short term I cannot see where the goals will come from...

Roughead can't go anywhere, he has a big Hawthorn Premiership tattoo on his shoulder

Roughead has stated that he is extremely happy to play out his career at Hawthorn, i suppose it must be hard for a team like Sydney who cannot afford
to bottom out, if you were to finish in the the bottom two this year, your club would pick up a gun forward in the up and coming draft.

I can't see it happening, for many reasons.

1. Roughead is a 'key part' of the off-field friendship group with Franklin and Lewis. That said former friend Dawson was moved on, so ?.
2. Removing Roughead from our forwardline allows opposition to double-team Franklin (oh, wait).
3. Although he could get MUCH better $$$ in Sydney, he's a "country boy" - the lifestyle might not be an attraction.
4. I can't see you satisfying us in a trade, and I can't see us losing one of our biggest assets for nothing.

Even if you offered RoK and your 1st pick, I'm not sure I'd jump.

Schneider got a tattoo when we won the premiership now his at STK.

Anyway No we've got nothing they'd want.

Would not want to throw away a first rounder for him.

My first thought is how wrong you are about Jesse White. He's 21 (?), has played about a dozen games and yet to be allowed to settle into a key forward position, and you've pegged him not good enough.
Not experienced enough, not tough enough (yet), maybe, but not good enough? You're wrong.

He needs help, most likely in the shape of Johnston, and possibly A Goodes as his career winds down.

Roughead's a fantasic player; he and White together would be a formidable pair.

Nah!

Eventually bucket loads of cash, but nothing to trade with!:o

Mitch Thorpe:)... however...top round pick with little chance of pressing for KPP at Hawthorn... all he has to do is turn into a "bad boy";)

Roughead is exactly who I said we should chase last year. He is always going to be Buddy's 'bridesmaid' and would get a lot more $$$ with us considering the Hawks have to pay Buddy, Rioli, Mitchell, Hodge etc. I do believe (at least it was posted last year) that he is contracted beyond this season.

I would be happy for the Swans to go after Mitch Thorp who seems like a forgotten Hawk despite being a number 6 pick (yes ahead of J Selwood). He is a gifted player and I believe will make it as an AFL KPP. Would be great having Johnston and Thorp coming through together.

ROK, 1st round pick, Buchanan and Ablett for Roughead is a better deal then what WCE got for Juddy (who at the time of being traded had accomplished far more than what Roughy has now). Nothing against Roughead, would love to have him absolutely, but i think that is a bit much. Wouldnt want to be dealing our 1st round pick or ROK any time soon, both will be very important to our team over the next 3-4 years.

I agree with not going for him and iinstead going for a Mitch Thorp or Sean Rusling and keeping our 1st round pick and drafting another KPP.

Apart from an attitude that has apparently alienated him among many at Hawthorn, Thorp has some ongoing, possibly chronic injury problems, starting with his shoulders.

Given the hawks premiership window has closed I'd say they'd be thinking about bottoming out and drafting their way to another premiership. If we finish bottom 4 they'd be very interested in a trade I'd say. In fact, we could get Freo involved in some 3 way action. This is how I see it working out come trade time.

Buchanan, Ablett and Malceski for Freo's 1st rounder.

Both our first round picks to hawks for Roughead, Sewell and Birchall.

Therefore Freo get 2 quality premiership players including 1 who is the nephew of god. Plus Malceski can advise Palmer on how to make it back to his best form after doing a knee.

Hawks get lots of nice draft picks which will lead to another premiership around 2012

Swans get to top up having only missing the finals in 2009 and up with a shot at more glory in 2010.

Too easy.

Yeah, let's get Thorp AND Rusling, and bring Kennelly back as a "shoulders" coach.

Lol, yeah, because Malceski is totally back to his best form after doing a knee! I wouldn't be fussed about losing Ablett, Buchanan, or our first 2 rounders though if we could get Roughead, Sewell and Birchall. I don't think Hawthorn would go for that though :p

Hahahaha hooley I didn't even notice that.

I don't see why we can't develop OUR Young gun and make teams want them instead of vice versa :)

Because then other teams want them. :(

It'd be stupid not to make an offer but realistically we don't have anything Hawthorn want and I can't see any reason why Roughead would choose us over Hawthorn, second fiddle to Buddy or not.
