Just wondering what's the current situation with regards to Drum? Last year I thought he showed that he has quite a bit of potential but haven't heard much about him at all this year. Any thoughts on how he's progressing and what sort of role you see him playing for Freo in the future.

All the best for the weekend, the amount of midfield pressure you apply will be key to your chances I think. Best way to minimise the impact of J Brown would be to affect the quality of his supply. That's kinda obvious though:o

Marcus drum had a bad hamstring over the preseason, and then when he recovered from that, he struggled for form and has been that way for the last four weeks. he has heaps of potential, however he just has not played well enough this year to get a gig. he will be a good player for freo for a long time though when he does return to form

Is playing as a centreman for the Demons, so it seems they are grooming him for a midfield role. Drum is fast and skillful, a pretty decent size and looks to be a more than handy sort in the middle of the ground or on a wing. Not sure about the endurance though....

I rate Marcus highly and think he will be an AFL player. But I dont think he will make it in the midfield. Seen him trialled there numerous times through the past 2-3yrs.

Ideally you want him playing Mundy's role off half back. He could probably get away with HFF aswell.

Just another question on one of your young guys. Didn't wanna open a new thread for it.

Will Robbie Warnock get a game for you guys soon, in your opinion? I saw he was emergency last week and with Longmuir injured thought he wouldn't be too far away.

Robbie Warnock is close with Longmuir being out. At the moment Sandilands is rucking well for most of the game and the match committee seem to prefer Gilmore as the back up ruckman. It also gives them the flexibility of trying Gilmore in various roles and seeing if he really can cut it at AFL level while Robbie develops further in the WAFL (Getting bulk and experience). Warnock by all accounts is a good ruckman and I think by next year will easily be our number 2 ruckman, Dockers were really keen to see him play preseason games but now every game is a must win for us and I think they worry about putting first gamers into such situations.

Its good that Drum is playing in the midfield. In the short term he may be struggling slightly to play in the Midfield. But it gives Drum even more flexibility. He already can play down back or forward. Now if needed Freo could throw Drum in the Midfield for small bursts if they need a big bodied player in the middle.

He did well, too. His stats for the Perth vs East Perth game were:
13 kicks, 6 handballs, 8 marks (and a slap in the face from Zak Beeck for his troubles :p) It has been his best game for the year so far at WAFL level.

With all due respect to Marcus, an AFL listed player with a midfield role should get more than 19 touches. Guys like Brown, McKenzie and Schofield all got over 20 touches playing in defence.

There are several factors you got to take when looking at possessions. Its easier getting cheap possessions in defense rather then the midfield. Also its what the player does with the possessions he gets rather then how many total possessions a player gets.

Drum is playing a new role in a midfield and so is getting used to it. So he will do better as he grows in confidence

Welcome, inferno and imperial :)

D-B - Correct. Marcus is not ready to jump straight back into the Freo 22, but he seems to be on track. Hopefully he will continue to gain confidence and start dominating at this level like Cookie and Steven Armstrong do when they play for the Demons. Drummie seemed to be much improved from his first few games of this year at wafl level. Did he have an injury pre-season?

Not sure on the injury front for young Marcus - but your Demons will have Robbie Haddrill this week also, according to Ch10 news... you reckon you could give us a bit of a run down how he fared (and Drummie too) after the weekend? Would be much appreciated! :thumbsu:
