i thought he was pretty spot on with his selections. however, he had us getting troy taylor with 30? as much a i would love for this to happen, i dont think that he will slide this far. what are peoples thoughts???

here is the link: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/mark-stevenss-draft-predictions/story-e6frf9jf-1225794866053

here is what he wrote about the pies in the h-sun:

COLLINGWOOD

PICK 30: Troy Taylor, 18 NT Thunder, forward, 188cm 75kg. It gets tough predicting picks this late, but word is Collingwood is very keen on the indigenous forward, who has been likened to Daniel Motlop.

OTHER PICKS: 62, 78

CLUB NEEDS: Midfielders with flair and pace and potentially someone capable of playing a lock-down role. Robert Shirley may be that man with a late pick.

CLUB SAYS:
"We've been able to support an area we needed to by recruiting Darren Jolly, but as a consequence our first pick isn't until No.30.

"We're going to be dictated to, so it's a matter of operating on a needs basis. We'll look to add midfield depth and we're also conscious the likes of Simon Prestigiacomo are nearing the end."

Derek Hine, Collingwood recruiting manager

I don't rate any journo who thinks Rohan is a key position player. Printing it in the paper is high level incompetance.

One of Troy Taylor or Josh Thomas would be ideal.

As Hine said, we are going to be dictated to in this year's draft so it will be a needs basis.

One of the above should still be available at pick 30 IMO.

i would be very happy with Taylor even though he could be a complete bust or a very good player we might have to take that risk :) wouldn't be disappointed if we got thomas either. not too sure i like the idea of welsh would perfer one of those young guys :D

Wouldn'ty be surprised if we pick up Mitch Thorp, who can play forward and back,as a backup for when Presti retires.
I know we have nathan brown no harm in having some depth.
Apparently Thorp has not had the opportunities at hawthorn, and unfortunately had bad injuries which halted his career, could be an intersting pick up.Only 20 yaers old.

I consider Taylor a very real possibility. We are intereted. And if available I think will ultimately be our selection regardless of whether or not Josh Thomas is available or not.

In my most recent mock draft I placed Taylor at 33, however I do think he will be our pick at 30 after re-annalysing the other likely draft positions Taylor will be our pick.

If Taylor is selected with our pick 30 I will be very pleased. :thumbsu:

Ball not mentioned at all?

Collingwood have admited that he will most likely resign with St Kilda. He is probably 90% likely to stay with St Kilda.

But have said that if he does decide to go to the draft that if he is available at Collingwood's pick then naturally we would select him.

The risk of ending up at Melbourne is far too great to risk. Bit silly to risk that when he has a chance to play in a premiership next season. Would hope that at the end of next season he would request once again to be traded to Collingwood if his opportunities remain dry. He would be a great fit for our midfield.

I would be surprised if we went with Thorp. Talent without a doubt, just his apparent attitude and personality problems I can't see Collingwood would want to anything to do with.

Going by That We are looking at a Midfielder or a FB.

Is Hine Knocking N Brown if we are looking for another FB?

Does Stevens Know about this or is he more Guessing for Us and just going off what he has heard?

No

our current defensive stocks Presti (near retirement), L Brown(its leroy), Nate, reid we clearly need one more possibly even 2

Could say about our KPF Depth as well

Could say about our KPF Depth as well
correct we have enough flankers

Id suggest we probably have young inside mids covered too

another KPF and KPD and a well skilled outside mid would go well

I wonder if Sam Reid will come into calculations if both Thomas and Taylor are gone.

Hine has said we will be targetting midfield depth as well as looking to add to our key defensive stocks.

Also, I still get the feel Thomas is priority #1 in the draft because of Hine's comments about midfield depth.

For those that know, is Taylor flexible enough to add midfield depth or is he just a HFF type of player?

Taylor Might be able to become a Mid with his Speed and Agility

My thinking with Taylor is that he will in turn give our midfield greater flexibility allowing guys like Thomas and Didak to play there full time.

Also there is the possibility that over his career that he could very well move into the midfield.

Why Hine is saying that we are looking at a midfielder because this draft is incredibly deep with mids. So atleast one if not two of our picks will be a mid as you would expect. Then in terms of key position players you have got Prestigiacomo who likely will only play another year then Rocca who is retired, so naturally for list balance a key position player with one of our picks will also be on our list of things we need to look at.

Otherwise a key backman you would most likely be looking at with pick 62 or 78.

Just to add some names to the mix.

If we went key position back at 30 (unlikely because there is going to be better available talent) then the pick would be Kyle Hartigan.

I'm still going with one of Taylor or Thomas at 30.

Then at 62 if we go Taylor then a mid, so possibly Carey. If Thomas at 30, then likely a key positioner in Luke McDonald or Luke Thompson could be on the cards.

Reid could very well go before our pick.

But if available and both Taylor and Thomas were gone, I would still probably say no to Reid in that he probably would replicate his brother too much in that he is too much of a similiar package. (Promising long term prospect who is athletic and will take 3-4 years to develop, but after which time will be a good quality key position backman).

Reid is not a bad pick at all, just due to the replication factor if we do go key position back at 30 will be Hartigan.

I also like Hartigan as he is a Bigger Bodied Player.

Not at all, Collingwood are one of a small selection of clubs that interviewed Taylor and expressed a keen interest in him. It is not at all guess work. He could very well be available at pick 30, and would be a nice fit into our forwardline in our view.

Glad to see that someone external also thinks so. :thumbsu:

On this site the reason so many people in their drafts have Taylor so high, is because in my first draft I place him at pick 10. He definately isn't a top 10 guy, and since then too many people have been following my trend.

Prior to that he was being placed my most in the late 30s to early 40s.

But 30 could very well be where Taylor lands, and I hope it is. He has a surprisingly large draft range, and don't be surprised if we get him. That's all I can say at this stage :)

Well He is Sure Looking like along with Josh Thomas as 1 of our Wanted Players?

Reminds me of Brian Lake.

Nice body size and strength for a young guy which is definately an appealing attribute. Also has really good fitness. So gives us a different package to N.Brown + B.Reid.

Certainly not at all opposed to him at 30, but just rate other guys slightly higher.

Also another idea behind the possibility of another key position player. Ontop of the Prestigiacomo and Leigh Brown being old. Is that B.Reid I really like playing the N.Maxwell role from this year down back, has a really nice disposal and perfect for the N.Maxwell role down back. That said still big enough to play key position back now, so he could alternatively become more like a Nathan Bock down back.

Yeah I agree there are Higher Hyped Players at Pick 30 we could draft but You would not complain about Hertigan

Can't wait for benny reid next year I think he could be a massive surprise next year. He should of bulked up a fair bit and is a good rebounding defender with great foot skills :D can't wait :(
Well being a Pick 8 in 06 I hope he is,

As long he does not Kick for Goal;)
