So you really think your opinion is how Lloyd is thinking ?
For a start how has Knights treeted him poorly ? FFS they want him to play on and have said dozens of times it is totaly Lloyds decision.

The problem is you morons belive everything you read in the paper

you know things I don't and you know things I shouldn't know regardless of the discussion you had with that poster.

It doesn't mean that the club/knights really has handled this issue well.

I would argue knights has shown gross media immaturity and very poor list management skills in the process.

Knighter backed himself into a corner re that comment he would let ML decide his own future along with Scotty and Fletch et al. Admirable at the time, but he should have been nuanced it when this crazy media storm developed. Too much at stake.

It has had an affect on the club and Lloyd. No doubt about that.

Knights/the club surely anticipated something moving re Lloyd mid season or sometime thereafter. If it is the process at the club that is at fault it matters little now.

The situation was poorly gauged by by knights and he will carry that can in supporters eyes regardless of any peer pressure you leverage or insults you throw at posters/supporters.

Knights will find it very difficult to recoverthis ground regardless of ML's motives

A good article and I found the below quote to be quality Lloyd and insightful given some of the comments in this thread:

The other element that comes into this is that it must also be the right decision for the club. Essendon Football Club has been my second home for almost half my life and I owe it to the club to make the right call as well. Occasionally, players are of the view that the club owes them something, but that has never been my view. The club has given me more than I will ever give it and it is only right that it comes into my considerations.

from what I read I believe the issue is Llyod want to only play FF however the club wants him to play more up the field so the club can develop some of your young stars in the key positions and for Matty to play a mentoring role.

I think this is a very sensible and responsible approach from your club, both Hurley and Gumble's have massive potential and need the scope and opportunity to develop

I just find Matty's position a bit surprising and maybe bordering on selfish, someone once told me thatthere is no "I" in Team

Bit of an oxymoron?

You have no other source but an article from a newspaper so it's not your belief, it's that of someone else.

Bloody Beauty. Great post lets all get off our arses and put some pressure on the smiling assassin, and wish him GoodKnight.

It was a good article and very relieving.

Pity it is about three weeks too late.

Whoever is advising Lloyd is a complete fool. How could this have dragged on for soo long without Lloyd going on the record like this? What else (other than intense speculation about his selfishness / gossib about rift between Lloyd and Knights) was going to happen to a player that would be amongst the most hated by opposition supporters since Wayne Carey?

This speculation will unfairly tarnish Lloyd's reputation and has unnecessarily brought the spot light back on to Knights and the club.

good to see lloyd set the record straight in the age. perhaps if ****wits like hutchy took the time to get their facts right people would not be mislead...

people are forgetting on the night of the final against adelaide, lloyd's wife went into labour and had their second child. most people with families would understand the first two weeks of a new born's life are quite busy for a parent.

do people expect m.lloyd to put aside his family duties to focus solely on a decision that he could make a week or two later with no impact on either player or club.

Lloyd is a commodity not a human being!

Lloyd has struggled with continuall niggling injuries over the past two years and right now i think the decision is him weighing up working in the media and making more $ as well as being able to spend more time with his young family versus his desire to keep playing but making less money , spending more time away from his kids and comitting to the training grind of another season.
It would be a bloody tough decision to make.

For sure. I know if it was me though I'd be thinking "you're a long time out of footy". The media will always be there.

I would keep playing for as long as I could contribute/the club wanted me. I just hope he feels the same way but whatever decision he makes won't change the way he's remembered as far as I'm concerned.

I think you are reading way too much into it.
It would not matter how it was handled there would be a media frenzy and it is just the state of play.
Early in the year he said it would be Lucas to decide as well but when his form was continually poor towards the end of the year Lucas was told he was not in the plans for the rest of the year or next year.

Personally i don't know why people get so wound up about the media circus. You end up going crazy if you belive every story that is written in the papaer. Sadly our media has gone down the same course the British tabloids.

Read this:

http://www.essendonfc.com.au/news/news.asp?nid=7044

"There have been suggestions I only want to play at full-forward. Rubbish. There have been suggestions I want a guarantee I won't play for Bendigo. Absolute rubbish. In essence, the whole process boils down to whether I am mentally and physically prepared for another season of AFL football."

http://www.essendonfc.com.au/news/news.asp?nid=7044

Read the whole thing though, and try not to cry that you're wrong those who said this "debacle/comedy" was the result of a severed Lloyd-Knights relationship. Or pretty much anyway who said that this was Knights' "fault."

not being a prolific poster or reader on bigfooty, should i be concerned at the report in Bay13 that lloyd will announce his retirement tomorrow? or is the entire idea of bay13 to simply stir trouble and make things up?

Tim Watson said on SEN this morning that he had lunch yesterday with a group of people that included Matthew Lloyd. Apparantly, Lloydy has said he's made his decision, but wouldn't let anyone know what it is, however Watto said his demeanour led him to believe that he would be retiring.

Patrick Smith on SEN seems to reckon Footscray have put a 2 year deal to Lloyd...

May or may not be related (with us), but also said Everitt is 100% out the door as well.

Yeah i heard Watto on SEN this morning say the same thing. I reckon Tim would know. I hope he does what is right by himself and the club. Whatever that is.

Just as long as I dont have to look at him in another jumper.

Patrick Smith, also ran a angry mob of 4 people at a primary school classroom to over throw the Essendon board after sheedy was shown the door.

He has about the same credibility of the newspaper he writes for. NONE. does anyone actually read the Australian? or the sport section in it?

He likes to sensationalise anything Essendon, and his views and stands are stuck in the mid 90's. If anyone does something different to way Patrick would do it, he attacks them, barely ever admits he is wrong when plans work. He is a blight on the AFL Media, and is always searching for a negative story. The AFL should cancel his accreditation, as he abuses his power to try and disrupt this great game of ours. How about a positive story Patrick????

Also heard on SEN by Sheeds that he strongly doubted Lloydy would leave Essendon for another team. I tend to agree.

When asked about Footscray securing Lloydy or Hall on Before the Game, Ackermanis basically said nothing about Lloyd and launched into all the reasons why Hall would be a good fit.

Did anyone see Lloyd at the Brownlow last night? I for one, did not.
He wasn't there. I assume it was because of a combination of having a newborn at home, not wanting to be hounded about his contract decision for the millionth time and his house being broken into on Sunday.

I've been rather bipolar about the whole situation. I go from thinking he'll play on to thinking he'll hang up the boots depending on the day. Guess we'll all just have to be patient and wait.
