Not being bias but Matthews in a canter, Buckley doesn't even deserve to wash Matthews boots after the game.

good thread - i guess if you're club has only had a single "truly great player" you need to defend them. love lethal of course because of what he did for us but half of his playing legend was related to his toughness. Buckley's all round skills and consistancy have been peerless. ( i am aware of course that his lack of a premiership medal makes him inferior to legends like Nick davis & co)

where's buck's record of brownlow top 10's??

You are a joke, this would be the worst response ever. Matthews is four times the player Buckley wishes he could ever be. Matthews had everything and then still more in the tank.

Me thinks you 15

where's buck's record of brownlow top 10's??

Above you {edit} if you chose to open your eyes, all information from collingwood's website.

Oh record top ten finishes now please tell me who has played in the hack teams?

looks like his Top 5 finishes to me - yet for lethal you had top 10.

Get your club to update their website then. Pick stupid stats like that, it just shows how weak your arguement really is.

Magpie tell me when are they going to rename the AFL MVP after Buckley? BOOM TISH and ding dong the Pie is dead

Buckley = great player and one of the greats of the Collingwood FC

Matthews = Possibly greatest player of all time

To catch a wily old brown trout, you have to choose your lure carefully. You have to observe the fish, noting it's usual movements, it's 'beat', and its preferred food sources. Then, when the moment is right, you have to carefully and subtly present your offering.

Not all fish are as smart or as discerning as the wily old brown however. Sometimes you can just rock up to your favourite fishing hole and chuck in any old shit and you'll still get bites.

good to see you here after the rout - is this a first???

Infantile statements from both sides of the argument.

Forget all the stats, look at the impact both have had.

Matthews is arguably the best player to have played the game. This is from someone who has seen both, admired both.

Can't really comment as I only saw Lethal at the end of his career whereas with Bux I have seen the lot.

To say Hawthorn had only one champ is off the mark also. Brereton, Dunstall, Langord, Platten would all be up there. To discredit them would be as bad as discrediting the machine team of the pies, both teams, were simply top of the charts for a long period and you can't do that without champs.

This is strange. I would say Collingwood has been the team without stars. See TOTC for evidence of this. I would say Buckley has been Pies best ever, but i would have him way behind:

Matthews
Dunstall

and slightly behind:

Hudson
Langford

Thanks old boy ;)

Funnily enough, if I had to choose a player I would go to watch above all others, matthews and Buckley included, it would have been daicos.

I know a lot of footy fans have short memories but even this astonishes me. Matthews was waaaaaaaaaaay ahead of Buckley. And that's from a 100% neutral supporter.

For what it's worth, I'd argue John Platten was every bit as good as Buckley also. Great, consistent player for a long time.

MccHawk - love the location too!

9 b and fs in a side chock full of stars suggest to me the lethal could well be the greatest. Bucks is the best I have seen at collingwood but there are not to many that can be compared to matthews.

Buckley isnt a king hit merchant!

He will always have respect from most supporters and players alike, not like matthews!

But when Matthews played, it was an accepted part of the game (to a certain degree). You have to take the players in context of the era they played in.

I see the point your making, however, in any era, king hits where not respected!
Toughness was front on!
matthews was a coward, ask any football historian!
