Maybe top 8?

We've had 4 wins from 5 games in the pre-season, and our only loss was in a close game where many would argue we only lost the 3rd qtr. Not only have we won, we have won impressively not once relying on Cousins or Gardiner.

Some say its only the pre-season, but truth is the opposition never comes out with the plan to lose. Others say our opposition has been undermanned, but truth is Woosha has rotated every senior player and not once played our full-strength squad (not even against the roos).

What chances do we have of making the top 8? Assuming Essendon, Hawthorn, Port and Brisbane are top 8 certainties, and Melbourne, Nth, Geelong, Saints, Bulldogs and Freo are unlikely to push for a spot. That leaves Sydney, Adelaide, Pies, Blues and the Tigers fighting it out for the remaining top8 spots? What odds do we have of getting there ourselves? Would it be realistic to hope for a top8 finish, or just plain Sabre-like optimism?

Yes. While they have been very impressive i shall wait and see how they are going after 3-5 rounds, that should give us a pretty good indication.

Even after our impressive pre season i still saw Xie (i think it was Xie) picking us for dead last and not even giving a reason, his reason was....pffft.

Are they underestimating us or are we kidding ourselves, really cant decide as to be honest there just pre season games and praccy's. Essendon havent won a game yet but you can bet they'll be top 4. Port won the whole thing and you can bet they'll be top 4 so i say take what you will from the early form.

Personally i think we will go really well this season, a definite first up win against the Dockers and a brand spanking new $20 dollar bill for me

Hehehe...he's got a point. Freo have got absolutely no chance of making the finals and have won just as many preseason games as we have. So im not getting my hopes up with finals action.

damn it all, i liked that avatar, it was the coolest thing about your posts (not that thats saying muc-ahem!) On the top 8 this year. Obviously, its what you aim for, and our pre season has been good enough for me to wonder if that could be a realistic aim. Lets just see how we go. If we do better than last year, and stay ahead of the lads in purple, i'm happy. Anything better is a bonus, courtesy of messr woosha

I think you people are too pessimistic! So far everything I said six months ago is already happening. Though this is just the pre-season the Eagles of 2002 is a much improved side. Under KJ with these same players we'd be still getting thrashed. Last year I was told that our team was nothing but hacks and had-beens and couldn't possible improve with a new coach no matter who he was. People tend to forget that a team isn't only about skillful players it's mainly about attitude, self-belief and fighting spirit. That is what's happening with the Eagles right now. It's basically the same players but a complete new attitude and confidence in themselves. So my prediction is that we're going to be the most improved side and can make the eight. I also think that teams like Essendon, Carlton and Collingwood, may play below their potential this year and I predict Port Adelaide will win the flag.

I think we best wait till after the first few rounds to see how we are travelling. We are up against some ordinary sides in the first few rounds, and wont know the real test till we come up against some quality.

I am happy with the pre-season, but most of these sides were not full sides and neither were ours.

Come on Round one, I want the real season to start!

I don't think we're being pessimistic, we're being realistic. Pre-season means nothing, absolutely nothing. I agree with your comments about Judge, attitude and the rest and believe that a good coach with a good team spirit can achieve a lot in a competition which is equalised by draft and salary cap.

We're just taking it one week at a time!

I dont think its a good idea to make any predictions until the first few rounds of the real season kicks in

The only thing we should be taking out of the past couple of wins is the fact that the boys have actually got a lot more self belief and confidence now

I dont think we should be talking up our chances too much, even after the season proper starts. There are 22 rounds of footy to be played, and even after the first 11, teams have been known to drop off dramatically or even pick up. Time will tell and we still have a LOT of time left.

I don't know if you've realised this, but this is the eagles board! No one gives a rats ass about what freo's chances of making the 8 are.

If you were referring to me saying that freo is unlikely to be pushing the 8, well its the truth. West Coast is also unlikely to be pushing for a spot in the top8, but since this is the eagles board i thought it would be appropriate to discuss our chances here.

Not having any hopes until i see us perform during the season proper.

However, we have reason to be optimistic, we have been very good in our wizard cup games and our practice matches, and we're very unlucky to miss out on making it into the semi finals of the preseason cup.

Ahhhh my apologies, sorry for providing perspective ... mreley wanted to show you that your feelings on Fremantle and their finals chances are well documented, so by substituing my team for yours, in your scenario it may provide you with the answer ... perhaps not th answer you want ... but here you go.
