I've seen a few hamstring problems. believe me.

Yeah, Ive gone a bit over board here, sorry mate - its been a long off season and i am really sick of people claiming expertise on players and staff....

Well they came out it with today- " a degree of soft tissue injury mismanagement " to quote Quinn. And it won't happen again.

I'm happy to suggest that any doubters put thier suggestions in writing to the medical and fitness staff. I have no doubt they will drop everything and take on board your noble advice, regardless of thier and your qualifications and experience.

What would Quinn know anyway, the guy has only saved Hird's career from a foot injury and is now consulted worldwide on similar complaints. I would hope he can manage and source info on hamstrings aswell.

As far as I'm aware, all of the staff being discussed here are all mad bomber fans like us. Do you think they would risk Gumby in a Round 1 NAB Cup game if they thought he had a higher risk of straining his hammy? I don't.

stander......what u have stated here is accurate...I think Gumbleton came to the club with hamstring probs......so why was he not treated more carefully

I am also worried about the way ML is managed with his hamstring probs

I just hope they get him right this time!

Um...I'm not quite sure what Quinn could of done, If it happened at training, Fair enough. But it happened in a match. Nothing anyone could of done...

Um...I'm not quite sure what Quinn could of done, If it happened at training, Fair enough. But it happened in a match. Nothing anyone could of done...

Its all about the conditioning of the players. We have more soft tissue injuries then anyone.
As of the injury lists during the week the league had 9 Hammy's and we had 4 of them.
Someone mentioned the St Kilda curse..... they sacked their fitness staff. Look at them now.

EDIT: Sorry 5 out of 11 hammy's add McVeigh and its 6 outta 12. Quinn sure is doing a bang up job.

I really don't think you could blame him. We were fitter than Carlton last week and no hamstrings went. Arguably, it's partly about the change in the game plan. Furthermore, it's not like those players (Jetta, Dempsey, Lonergan and McVeigh) were never vulnerable to hamstring injuries. I do believe they've had them in recent history.

There is nothing we can do about it during the year but at the end of the year we need the whole fitness staff revamped, starting with the sacking of John Quinn.

I couldn't give a rats ass what his credentials are or what other teams want to work with him, they can have him as the proof is in the pudding.

Don't think you would have said that from 1999 to 2001 when we had a good run and were a top team.

My view is the hamstring injuries are bad luck apart from perhaps Gumby who could have been eased into it a bit more.

Running out of excuses for me. I can't deal with the "young bodies" crap anymore.

We are a powerful club and one of the most cashed up so it's time to poach someone or make some serious changes.

You are only as good as the best 22 you can put out there. Sydney is proof you can win a flag with a so so team if you have no injuries.

Ok lets not focus soley on hamstrings then. Lets focus on the 15 blokes on the injury list shall we? '99-'01 we had a ordinary run with injuries as well. We just had the cattle to cover.

Exactly. Astonishing how many people seem to think this run over the past few years is just bad luck. Getting hit by lightning is bad luck. Having 15 blokes out is piss poor on behalf of our fitness staff.

Hard Running puts stress on your body. You cant fix that in 6 months. Whats the bet this time next year your list will be firing playing the same gameplan.

Hard Running puts stress on your body. You cant fix that in 6 months. Whats the bet this time next year your list will be firing playing the same gameplan.

I'm just guessing this thread is built up frustration from past years where we've had hamstring injuries.

Syndneys game plan was to create stoppages thus they didn't have bugger all high impact, sprinting, collisions etc as the game was always stop start.

Our injuries are a worry, maybe it's time for a change anyway with a different perspective. I still find it hard to blame a fitness guy for hamstrings and groins having played all my life they can just go for no reason. These guys are finely tuned fitness machines. Can someone try and elaborate the situation. Are they not stretching enough, are they not doing enough strength work whether it's the old fashioned slow strength work or ballistic strength work, are they not getting enough rest/stretching during the game. You all say sack Quinn but give us something.

I reckon a lot of the guys here just like reading there own posts. Some of you guys simply don't think before you post.

If your playing at the Telstra Dome 3 out of 4 weeks, not including the 2 in the NAB cup, playing a high intensity running game and having a 6 day break in between all games, it is more likley than usual to suffer Hamstring injuries.

And look at the players who have hamstring problems; Jetta, second year player who has had a heavier training schedule. Dempsey has had previous problems, but has also had a heavier training schedule. Welsh and McVeigh are just due to a mixture of bad luck and again a heavier training schedule.

Gumbelton's just gunna keep having the problem until he stops growing and Myers is a first year player, its not uncommon to see first year players struggle with hamstring injuries.

Credit should be given to Quinn for getting us amongst the fittest and fastest teams in the AFL. Hamstrings are going to be a result of this.

How can we give you something as we are not fitness experts.

But what i can give you is this.

Essendon has consistently, since about 2001 had more soft tissue injuries than any team in the competition, by a long way.
There have been years where other teams had more, like St Kilda, yet those same years we also had heaps.

John Quinn is in charge of this area and has been for the whole time.

He is responsible and needs to be sacked along with Doc Reid and we need to get someone else in there.

I can't tell you who, as i have little idea who is out there but we have plenty of money, go and poach whoever is considered the best in the business.
