Re: Cousins

I would definitely wait and see what he has been charged with and if he is guilty before making any judgement.

What if he and Chick have been arrested for bashing the dealer who sold Mainwaring the drugs that killed him?
What would your opinion be then?
I didn't want Cousins before today, there is definitely no way I'd want him if he's convicted of anything new, even if it is bashing a drug dealer.

Re: Cousins

His AFL career is over... nobody will get the chance to get him.

Ben has a wonderful new career in WA organised crime...

Re: Cousins

Well looks like he has been charged with possession of drugs....what a waste of talent.
That will be the end of him I think...can't see anyone pick him up now.
Carlton....no they wouldn't...would they.

Re: Cousins

Ben cousins what a total moron, what a total waste of money the weasles spent on this tool to send him to USA to rehab. Throw cousins out of the AFL, Once a druggie always a druggie, proof is in the pudding

Re: Cousins

such a shame, even though he wasnt a pies player. i loved watching him play , always ran himself into the ground and just the way he played you had to admire it. you cant fault him on the field , just sad that he doesnt realise he needs help off the field and has had so many people offer it to him.

easy enough to say once a druggie always a druggie , still a person whos in need of help, hope he finds it soon enough

Re: Cousins

I think Chick was arrested aswell, but at a seperate location
Chick hasn't been charged with anything yet. Cousins has for possession of a quantity of an illegal drug, and refusing a blood test.

Re: Cousins

Jail time a possibility for this considering the booze bus incident as well? And the drunk in public one.

And these aren't crimes as such he been charged for but the drug addiction fiasco and associations with crime figures in WA... what a f***wit, he's just wasted an opportunity others would kill for, for what?

I have no sympathy for the bloke, he's just a moron who has cocked up again and again and again and if he was someone else he would have been sacked yonks ago.

Good riddance, catch you later Ben. :thumbsu: Disgraced.

Re: Cousins

Purely from a football point of view there is no doubt that every club would see a player of his abilities & drool at getting him for nothing and probably on reduced pay. However these days its not just about footy there is a much bigger picture, which makes him pretty much untouchable.

By the way does paying his bail count under the salary cap?

Re: Cousins

If it means getting closer to a premiership, which it certainly does, then I would see no reason not to look into it.

Not saying to just jump in and take him, but I'd have no problem with us talking to him. He is down to his bones, he has no room to bargain or anything, if he wants to play AFL ever again (which I think he does) then he is going to comply with our terms. So with that in mind I'd draw up terms that meant we drug tested him every 5 days or something like that to ensure he wasn't touching anything. If he ever failed one of them, then out the door.

Losing sponsors and what not really isn't a problem for us, its something we can risk because lets be honest were not short of money or intrested businesses willing to invest in us.

That is just me, I'd be willing to take the risk. Providing a definite plan, with some intensely binding rules, then I'd be willing to take him in the PSD.

A Ruckmen + a quality midfield = premiership

*note that so far the drugs he had on him are suggested to be prescription drugs (e.g. viagra) that he didn't have a prescription for.

Another thing that I think hurts him is the smaller community in Perth, there is eyes everywhere trained on the West Coasts guys over there. And obviously WC weren't keeping a good enough eye on him, but the chances of being pulled over and searched mid-day in Melbourne would be so much slimmer compared to being in Perth.

There is an abundance of AFL players in Melbourne who consume drugs, your naive if you disagree, but like I said its easy to keep on the low over here.

Regardless of all that though, it is a risk and I'm not jumping at the idea... But hell, on principle I'd love to see Ben Cousins in our midfield.
I'd also love to see us holding up the cup at the end of the year

Cousins? Is he worth a go?

Now that all the info is out and the drug he had on him was Vallium...for depression & alcohol withdrawel.

If the AFL let him keep his registration...

Should we try and lure him to the club?

I think with Mick Malthouse at the helm and other connections at collingwood...it could be a big plus for us!

Re: Cousins? Is he worth a go?

No way.Shocking influence to the younger players, might also cost u some Premiership points and draft picks allong the way.

Re: Cousins? Is he worth a go?

Worst thread or comment I have ever read on bigfooty.

What do you think Mick Malthouse's ethos is, what motto do you think the current group of players follows. It wouldn't be TEAM would it?????????The team comes first, the team is always greater than the individual, if we are to be any good - the team must play well together???

Cousins would rip the heart out of the team and this football club. Imagine him taking Pendles and Daisy under his wing.

He should remain as far away as possible from the Pies - I would rather redraft Richards and Cole - both absolute duds

Re: Cousins

The bloke needs help obviously and West Coast tried but being in Perth he was still hanging around those shoddy charecters.

How many other people in our community have a drug problem? He just happens to be a footballer - so ****ing what!

If we have any chance to nab him we should provided he sorts himself out ofcourse. Do you think Carlscum would hesitate not to get him if available? Hell no!

At 29yo he has atleast 3 good years left and maybe more.

Re: Cousins? Is he worth a go?

Valium is still uysed ny people as a recreational drug, like horse sedative (i dont know why but they do)

Just because it can be used for good it can also be used and proberly was used for other reasosn, if he actually needed it he would of had script simple.

So in short no

Re: Cousins? Is he worth a go?

idk, we have players that have done bad stuff before and theyve come good eg Didak but idk if hes just lapsed back into it since the West Coast guy died. Also if he went to any team they would apply very strict boundaries.

Re: Cousins? Is he worth a go?

Wasn't Valium. Was an anti-anxiety* drug, for which he didn't have a prescription.
I have always thought that our midfield was lacking and slow (Licca, Woey, Jason Wild, etc....) and have been jealous of those running around for other teams. Always wondered how many more goals Taz and Pebbles would have kicked with better delivery. In saying this, I secretly wouldn't mind Cuz donning the Black and White for a few years. Also, remember we are human and are meant to forgive and, under Eddie and in a different city, he might turn his life around, particularly considering how professional Collingwood is nowdays. In short, I wouldn't mind.

On the other hand, we are pretty bloody good without him. He wouldn't be worth it (even if he cost us nothing in the PSD) and all the attention would distract the team unit. So, as much as it would be good to have a champion player strengthening our team, I would have to vote NO. Another team without morals (I'm sure Carlton is the first one that jumps into people's heads here) or that are desperate/take recycled duds (Essendon under Sheedy, St. Kilda) can have him.
