Re: Who do YOU want EFC to draft at #5 in 2008?

Either way, it is going to be fantastic to see how he flourishes next year. Yet another exciting prospect. Perhaps cold be the best of all or younguns. Our next Brownlow Medalist. Dare I dream.
Best youngster? Perhaps but I rate Patrick Ryder very highly. Like the look of Sammy Lonergan too. We have an abundance of talent and watching them all flourish for the next decade is going to be great. Pity that Myers season was cut short my injury but could be expect anything else:rolleyes: Big pre-season and we'll see him fit and firing in Round 1, 2009.

That's more than me as i have had to rely on descriptions of him, albeit from a very good judge.

I am yet to see him yet but he is a highly regarded defender.

Either way he is going to have to hit the gym hard, when I saw him he looked like he was under 80kgs. The one thing he does have on Hurley as backman is pace, quite a bit quicker.

I reckon that Carlton will grab Trengrove unfortunately.

We pick before them so if we want him we should be able to get him.

He would be highly unlikely to last until our second pick but we still have trading season and the draft camp to go, lots can still happen.

Zeibell or Hurley for me, K thanks!
I think Port will take Hurley and Zeibell would combine really well as a clearance player with Watson.

Ziebell for me. 188cm. Good around stoppages. Can take a good mark and go forward and kick goals (6 on the weekend). Sound like anyone we know who might have retired last year.

Saw Hurley at the u18 carnival. Looks a bit slow to me. I also think we have a lot of developing players for the CHB/FB roles. Ryder, Daniher, Pears, Hooker, even Myers at 192cm.

Re: Who do YOU want EFC to draft at #5 in 2008?

Does anybody else get the feeling Nick Nat wont play a lot of ruck for his first few years in the league?

Seems to me he has a lot of Paddy Ryder in him, tall but not really ruckman tall, massively athletic, doesn’t seem to get a lot of the footy and needs to put on about 15 to 20 kg's.

My guess is Nick Nat will find himself in defense early in his career(depending on who he goes to of course). I'm not sure he will slid through to us, I would think Freo will take him if Warnock leaves but hell it would be exciting to see Paddy and his twin Nick Nat playing side by side in the Essendon defense.

Haha, kinda what I was thinking.

Re: Who do YOU want EFC to draft at #5 in 2008?

From ant's profiles:

Jack Ziebell – 188cm, 84kg – Murray Bushrangers.
Strong midfielder /half back / half forward. Good size and excellent skills on both sides of the body. Reads the play very well and is good at finding his own ball. Clearance work is pretty good although at times he does just charge forward hoping that his side’s ruckman wins the tap and he can burst away with the ball. It looks good when it comes off but when the ball goes the other way he can get caught out big time. He is a very strong mark and regularly takes one grab contested marks. Kicking for goal is good and he can kick long distances.
The only real question mark I have on him is his pace. He has a reasonable burst of speed when it is needed but in general he is not overly quick. He is not a player that will break the lines with his pace.
Prediction - top 10.

Bolded part is something I don't like. Would get seriously burned in the AFL.

I like your optimism :)
Hopefully people are blinded by McKernan and forget to pick him.

Just incase you haven't seen it, has some nice passages of play by him.

Re: Who do YOU want EFC to draft at #5 in 2008?

i'd wait until trade week is over before deciding this but...

if inactive during trade week then it has to be hurley or trengove at pick 5.

With Lee not being told so early on that he would not be required next season, they must have something up there sleeves either at trade week or maybe someone out of one of the state leagues

Got a feeling we'll take Ziebell.
And how does that make you feel? :p

I can actually see us taking him as well. His versatility and ability to play well all over the ground is something like will entice Knights. He seems to be building a side where 10-15 players can all go through the midfield and then also able to play off half back or up forward, something that Ziebell can do.

It doesn't really bother me to be honest. I've only seen him in the champs and thought he played well. He has elite kicking which is always a plus, takes a good contested mark and puts his body on the line.

Still can't pinpoint why I don't like him :p

Must be the name. Hurley rolls off the tongue better for mine. Ziebell would need a good nickname.

And I do share that feeling that he'll be the one at the moment.
