need to take a good look at themselves
The AFL is expected to hold its mid-season draft between rounds 11 and 12 with selections to be made on Wednesday, May 31.

Essendon, Fremantle, Geelong and Hawthorn all kept list spots open from last November's draft period, electing to bypass the pre-season Supplemental Selection Period (SSP) despite trialling a series of players over the summer.

So, upon which poor bugger are we going to ladle all our hopes and dreams and wild schemes for quick redemption?

Well, Liam has played one game of footy for Warragul and didn't kick any goals in that - but I don't know where he was playing with the likes of Jed Lamb, Liam Sumner in the side

A small forward or speedy mid.
Cross out a few positions and/or types of players we have plenty of then go with best available from what's left.

The list would probably be:
Tall forward
Small forward
Medium forward
Winger
Inside mid

Winger and inside mid would need to have good athletic traits and/or height otherwise they'd be too similar to what we have.

Small/medium forward should be a specialist forward that kicks more goals not one of these forward/mid types which we seem to have a few of.

I think we wait to see if we need an injury replacement. If no injuries, then I think we will pass, or maybe Stubbs if he has been kicking goals (not a great start in Rd 1).

Feels like most of the state league goal kickers would either be failed AFL players or pilfered by now through years of MSD and SSP. Someone like Sokol must have limitations (too slow) if he hasn't been picked yet.

Stubbs was playing Mid and fwd.

Jack Buller comes hard at the ball and has the athleticism to take it at its highest point

His kicking is scratchy though and his ground ball and pressure is probably only a touch above Tabs complete non entity level

It’s only an eye test suggestion though as someone who looks like they could compete in the AFL with those traits

I’ve mentioned him in the past and people always respond with ? marks about his work ethic so maybe that’s an insurmountable weakness

There will be someone in the state leagues showing some form for sure.
We need to take a chance on someone.
Adding a John noble, Will snelling, ash Johnson or marlion Pickett type would be perfectly fine for us.

“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”

Bastyy whats the latest on Mitch Edwards the NGA guy that was top10 ranked. Is he still in that range?

It’s early doors in the WAFL but following on from end of last season and round 1, the following I reckon have put their hand up (not necessarily for Freo):
Jack (Ferris) Buller (KPF) - age 21, 199cm (liked him from a couple of years ago - has some serious bucket hands)
Reuben McGuire (KPF/KPD/ruck) - age 21, 196cm (similar to what Freo would be hoping from Eric Benning but a massive upgrade)
Tom Blechynden (Wing) - age 23, 186cm
Milan Murdoch (Mid) - age 21, 181cm

I’ll try and post something similar in this thread most weeks. Also Tom Medhat who used to be in our academy is starting show some promise as a medium tall. Sam Stubbs also will be considered but had a just ok game. My main concern for Sam is he is just too short for the type of role he plays. Leads well but the lanky arms of taller defenders spoil the ball.

Hasn't been enough u18's for him to move around too much yet, so still in that range yeah. The U18 academy play against Port's SANFL side this week so we'll get a good look at him against some older bodies

We could do worse than just putting Crowden back on the list (if rules allow - not sure if they do). Not a single opposition spleen is at risk playing us presently
