In the past that may have been the case, but to be fair, this year his kicking has been pretty good, not many turn overs at all.

I disagree. He still quite often misses the target, and very rarely hits our leading players on the chest.

He might have improved slightly, however, still misses the target far to often. Especially on his left foot. And when he doesn't turn the ball over, so often he makes our fowards work, by kicking the ball to there feet, to wide, or to high, forcing them to prop and giving the opposition defenders every opportunity to spoil.

I like Rhyce...really I do. He bleeds black and white, and you cannot ever accuse him of not giving it his all. But I always hoped that his disposal would get better, with experience his composure would improve, especially under pressure. But it hasn't unfortunately.

As for Ben Johnson...look no further then Sunday - third quarter, where he chipped the ball to O'bree...yet unfortunately the ball went 5 metres over his head. O'bree was 15 metre's in the clear, no players near him. It should of been an inside 50 to us, yet unfortunately, under no pressure Johnson was unable to hit a bloke standing 15 metre's in the clear.

Ball goes over O'bree's head, Ray gets the ball, inside 50 to Bulldogs and a goal. It was the goal that got the bulldogs going.....4 goals later we were down at 3 quarter times.

As I said, these turnovers are killing us. When we don't turn over the ball, is when we win games.

So its half-way through the year and its time to decide who is in the gun, who needs a big second half to the year and who is 'gone for all money'. Say we have to cut around 5 or more players, who is praying to the football gods at the end of their bed every night for a miracle.

I expect Wakes to retire. Burns might or, he might go round for one more year. Burns and Wakelin will retire.

Dutchy and Lonie look gone with chronic injuries. Will be de-listed

Iles must be on shaky ground. Will be de-listed

Ego's looking wobbly. I'm tipping 1 of Cox and Egan will be traded.

Toovey, Stanners and Cook are only coming along slowly. I think they all will be retained

Ant is nearing the end, will he go round once more? 1 more year

Cox is only in year one on the senior list but will he be given more time? See Egan

Will the McGaff be elevated or let go? Dawes and Anthony will get a game before him. Will be de-listed

Will Presti get another year out of his battered body? YES

Your thoughts, ruminations and meditations appreciated

I think everyone else is pretty safe

Your off your tree Rhyce's field kicking has been ok this year, cook has looked out of his depth in every game his played bar essendon when the team dominated

O'Bree is unloseable especially with Burns getting older

Johnson, his disposal is actually better when not delievering into the foward 50 should be kept in the backline imo.

your standards for kicking are far too low - unfortunately so is collingwoods.

I'm gathering you're basing the Cox 'going home' comment on that remark that was overheard at training a few weeks back?

I would hardly say that is indicative of where he will be next year.

Yes. If he were staying, he'd deserve further opportunities. But if his heart's elsewhere, we'll have to wish him well.

Has anyone noticed how poor Dane Swan's kicking has been this year.

67.40% efficiency.
His kicking for goal has been dreadful. From a player who was very reliable inside 50 to a player who is just as likely to put it OOF as kick a goal from a set shot, with a behind the usual result.

Obviously the likelihood of trading the ones above is slim, but you have to try. We simply cannot carry players on the list that are past it or not good enough. We have to keep drafting smartly and look for good trades.

I admire your faith in so many, as you say trading not too much of an option, even if we do we get a player in return this does not free spots up. List management requires that we free up 4-5 spots on the senior list.

Wellingham will be left on the list. I think MacAffer should come up too. This means that 6-7 have to go. I would delist Toovey, as he is a butcher even when he does have a decent game. Egan because he has had his chances and does not do enough. Stanley because he just isn't up to it. Lonie and Holland because they just don't have a spot left in the team (can anyone see these two getting another game?). These last two might have some trade value but not much. Then the other one or two will come from the retirements of those looking at it. There is my rambling $0.02

I'm not sure why people are wanting to trade Fraser???
Ok, so he might not have been playing so good lately but he is still an important part of our team. Otherwise we will have 2 ruckmen, Bryan & Wood, with the possibility of one or two that might be able to fill the position. What if one is then injured....?
He was selected for the Victoria SOO team wasn't he? Does that not make him a good ruckman?

Hrmmm......

Iles , Lonie , Holland, Toovey , and Wakelin to retire.
I would think Egan would have to be borderline , as terrible as I have seen him play this year , I still hold some slim silly hope for him. Having said that in reality he is more likely to be delisted than Toovey , but that would be my call.

Not been playing so good lately?? He has never played many good games. He would be lucky to have played 10 good games in his entire career. He has no physical presence, which is a dreadful negative for a ruckman. He cannot play as a forward either as he can't take an overhead mark to save himself and his reflexes are too slow. Trade him...that is, if there is a club silly enough to trade for him.

Did Josh Fraser make a move on your girlfriend? Maybe you just haven't actually watched Collingwood play, or any other ruckmen in the competition. Dean Cox is standout, aside from that Fraser is solidly in the pack that represents the rest of the decent ruckmen in the league. If you honestly think there are 15-20 better ruckmen around you are not footy fan at all.

So you can perhaps enlighten us on Fraser's good games over the last 5 years, then, Mr Football???

Fraser would struggle to get a game at any other club.

Look at the Demons, he wouldn't be in their best 22 and they have only 1 win.

We should learn from the Tarrant fiasco and get what we can for Fraser.

I just look at it as Josh Fraser making the Victorian side for a reason: he's a good ruckman.

Think everyone was surprised when Josh got picked for the VIC's. Probaby an endictment on the lack of quality Victorian rucks at the moment.

Fraser does his job he is not a game breaker. Neither is any other ruckman in the league (aside from Cox). I am not the one saying that we should get rid of a player for nothing with no replacement or development of our team.

Perhaps you can enlighten us what we would do without Fraser then?

Hear hear.....!!!

What we would do is do what we are doing now, use Wood and Bryan. It is our best ruck combo. Bryan lacks for a lot of things in his game but he has physical presence and is an option up forward as he can mark overhead. Fraser has neither of these attributes. Wood has the problem, like Fraser, of a lack of physical presence, but can tap well and can take a mark. I'm sorry but I can't cop ruckmen who lacks physical presence and who at the age of 26 has struggled to play 10 good games over a 9 year career.

Clubs who recruit smartly such as Hawthorn and the Bulldogs find players, why can't we??? The Hawks have 3 ruckman on their list, none of them particularly great, but they all have physical presence. The Bulldogs lacked a ruckman, so they went out and recruited Hudson. Not a great player, but has a physical presence.

Personally , I would have shopped Fraser around years ago when he had currency. I doubt if any other club would want him now. At the end of last year, for example, would have been a good time. We could have picked up King from Geelong with our last draft pick and used him for 2 years whilst Wood developed. A similar scenario may present itself at this year's draft. If so, I say trade him.

Jack Anthony should come in to play as a leading from the square FF next week, so use Bryan and Wood to change in the square. Both can mark up forward and convert and Bryan will give us a lot of physical presence when on the ball. It will allow us to play 4 running players off the bench and thus maximise our rotations in the midfield. The morale to all this is, we don't need Josh Fraser.

Can't take an overhead mark?
Hasn't played many good games?
No physical presence?
Can't play forward?
Slow reflexes?

I think these videos would beg to differ..... (& yes, one might be a highlights video of his time at this great club bt it just goes to show that he isn't as useless as what some of us may want to think.)

So what, he isn't perfect every single week..... We shouldn't be expecting him to be.[/FONT]

Gone:
Ryan LONIE - Hasn't done enough this season to cement a place that was already wobbly enough...
Brodie HOLLAND - A contributor is all he's been for us, and he can't cement a best 22 spot now.
Danny STANLEY - I honestly don't understand the hype that surrounds this bloke, but for mine he's a little too slow to make the decisions.
Chris EGAN - His Collingwood career ended when he was dropped early on, from all accounts he hasn't done enough at VFL level to allow us to retain him.

In The Balance
Brent MACAFFER - Hasn't been given a shot; but it only takes one slip-up to go (Danny Nicholls, R2, 2007)
Ryan COOK - As much as I like the look of this bloke, it is a case of stand up and deliver or become a reject. Into his third season, Collingwood cannot accept mediocre performances without any real inroads.
Chris BRYAN - Must stand up to the test. Finally earnt a spot in the seniors, and has played well accordingly, but if his form tapers at seasons end, watch out.
Alan TOOVEY - In the same mould as Ryan Cook. Hasn't been able to establish himself in the squad - seemed to play a lot last season for no reason.
Sam ILES - Hasn't yet earnt the chance to display any brilliance in the AFL, but he's been in the business long enough to expect to be able to break the squad this season.
Shannon COX - The Anthony Rocca look-a-like has earnt his spot for now, but a poor performance will let it slim, and considering the lack of tall forwards that we have at the moment, that would possibly spell the end of his career.

Consider Retirement
Shane WAKELIN - Buckley claimed that as a veteran, your career approached a cliff, injuries begin to grind you and you go from hero to villain very quickly. Possibly only consented to stay on with the surprise retirement of James Clement last season, it'd be more fitting for a man of his calibre to avoid the potential humility of having his spot on the line weekly, ending up in the same ilk as Neitz this season.

The morale to all this is, we don't need Josh Fraser.

Rubbish.

If fit for the Swans game Josh will play a vital role in the win.

I agree with you Magpie Girl and thanks for the linked videos.

Anyone with a brain watching those videos would be mad to even think of trading such a skilled and talented player.

And an earlier comment on learning from the Tarrant trade... Tarrant was not traded because of lack of skills

Go Josh
