I reckon Brown was a fair chance of being dropped anyway. But geeze, the backline depth is taking a real beating. Brown, Waters and Jones are all out. And of course, Wilkes and Spangher were delisted last year.

Means that losing either Emac or Glass now would just be a HUGE blow.

Schofield the only winner out of this.

On the bright(er) side, thankfully we don't play any teams with two monster forwards in the next month.

That's crap. To those saying "he was going to be dropped anyway" no, he wasn't. Wasn't in blistering form but the fact is we are going to perservere with him because he has shown potential to be an absolute gun CHB and I think most of us believe he will turn out to be just that.

Tyberious... thats straight out bullshit .. the club is developing players for positions... I am not sure when he broke his thumb......but he put in the hard yards..

Plenty of established KPD are going to be monstered by Buddy.F this year and Browns effort on the weekend wont be the worst.

*shrug* I said he was a 'fair chance', not a complete monty. Given our draw, I figure he might have been dropped due to matchups (plus, he hasn't been in the best form). But you're probably right... our match committee is so pig-headed when it comes to talls. Brown probably would have kept getting a game in our ridiculously tall backline.

At least we won't keep playing so bloody tall down back.

Its a real shame it takes injuries to finally force the selection of a balanced backline.

We need more goal kickers not KP backmen.

More than happy to see J Jones, Smith or even better A Selwood go back and Stevens get a game in the guts.

Hams or Strijk take Dalziell's place.

And yes, Schofield is the only winner from this.

Yeah well who the hell do we put on Jack Watts now:mad:

Our defence was totally balanced last week agaiNSt Hawthorn.
It became unbalanced when Schofield went off.

Stop sticking to old conventions.
Tall players are very quick in the modern world. Look at the Thunderbolt.

I would play 4 talls down back every week if I HAD TO.
Brown and Schofield are real QUICK

In a straight line they may be quick GE but they get turned inside out by more agile opponents, ones who can run at 'crazy subtle angles'.;)

All I will say is watch the next game when Schofield plays on Jurrah.

Remember watching Motlop run circles around MacKenkie last season?

Sure our KP backs are pretty decent against other big KP forwards but teams are playing smaller more agile mid sized forwards these days ...... like Le Cras.

Do you at least actually acknowledge that in the past couple of years good small forwards have hurt us badly time and time again? Thats because even our smaller backline players are 188-189cm tall and lack real agility.

He has been terrific this year, the best rebounding defender out of the talls this year.

That's all well and good but defenders also need to...you know...defend.

EMac and Glass are by far our best KP defenders. A perceived lack of speed and agility never hurt Glass through his career playing on the likes of Pav. EMac should be put into that role.

I dont believe Brown was close to being dropped. If we decided to drop a tall defender then you would think Schofield would be first in line (particularly given he was subbed on the weekend).

This is a fair loss as it reduces our flexibility down back and Brown will lose 8-10 weeks of game time which is obviously that many weeks of experience/development. In addition, an injury to another tall defender will really start to test our depth.

The job of a defender is not only to stop his opponent from scoring/setting up goals and being damaging. Sure, for a tall defender that is first and foremost but you can't afford for your 3 talls to be only negaters. Brown is a better rebounding defender than EMac and although his disposal is not great, it is better than EMac's and Glassy's. Plus, he is more suited to a CHB role wheras EMac is more primed for FB.
