yep, sure johnson over hilf  and then johnson hilf and tait > bracken? mcgrath?:rolleyes::rolleyes:

What theory do you use to compare Johnson, Hilfenhaus and Tait?

I check out the following:

Johnson - (ODI) 22 (wickets) 22.68 (average) 28.63 (strike rate)

Hilfenhaus - (ODI) 1 (wicket) 26.00 (average) 42.00 (strike rate)

Tait - (Test) 5 (wickets) 42.00 (average) 57.60 (strike rate)

Johnson has impressive stats, despite Tait unable to make his ODI debut thus far. Hilfenhaus could surpass Johnson in the not too distant future, but until then Johnson is Australia's most exciting fast-bowling prospect. He will make his Test debut next summer, and could be the first bowler to be introduced in both forms of the game between himself, Hilfenhaus and Tait.

Only way to compare them is by first class matches

Mitchell Johnson 20 Games 67 Wickets @ 27.74

Shaun Tait 41 Games 171 Wickets @ 26.39

Ben Hilfenhaus 15 Games 68 Wickets @ 29.04

Obviously a flawed comparison, you could have quoted exactly the same sort of stats about SKW or GDM early in their careers.

Exactly why quoting selective stats with no context is such a pointless exercise.

What better way is there for The Reaper to compare them?

That is the whole point. I don’t think there is a definitive answer. Situations like this are never give A + B = C answers.

MJ might go on to be a brilliant bowler who leads our attack for the next ten years or in a few years time we might all be asking what ever happened to him. Same can be said about Tait. Right now we there is no way of knowing.

If you want to put MJ in a good light you use his international stats. If you want the opposite you use his full domestic figures. Despite the fact that they are both factually correct, neither one in isolation tells the full story. (Though I think there is a pretty strong argument about his recent stats being more relevant)

Interesting arguments can be made in all sorts of directions. There are all sorts of different ways you can compare and speculate about the players. Stats are just part of a bigger picture.

If someone bandies about his domestic figures as ‘proof’ that he shouldn’t be in the team it just says to me that they are too busy looking at the trees to see the forest.

I meant out of the up and coming bowlers

Beats me why so many drongos on here hate Johnson... oh wait he's from Queensland. Thankfully the selectors are the ones who matter and they recognise what a great prospect he is, he's definitely the frontrunner to replace McGrath.

Johnson >>> Hilfenhaus >>> Tait >>> the rest

He may be a gun but he can't stay on the field for more than 3 matches without getting injured!

That's true...as is the case with a lot of fast bowlers. Look at Johnson. Not so long ago, the same was being said about him. He's been lucky in that he's been injury free for a while now but he had a long run where he was always out with some injury or another (usually serious back injuries) so much so that he was going to drop cricket all together.
Thank God he didn't. :thumbsu:

Hopefully Tait can have a good, injury free run too. He's definitely got what it takes to be world class IMO.

I'm not saying Johnson shouldn't be in the team, I highly rate the bloke. However to say that Johnson is far better than Tait because he has played more one dayers than Tait is wrong. Remember that Johnson wouldn't have made his debut if Tait wasn't injured.

Was there a point to this thread?

Queenslander.

Here's a guy who's only ever bowled well on sub-continent pitches and after another couple of good SC performances he's demanding that he's the player picked. Pure arrogance coming from a pure muppet.

This coming a couple of days after World Cup hero Shaun Tait was measured in his response to the same question and actually respected other bowlers and maintained a semblance of class in his response.

We've all seen what happens when Emo Mitch bowls against international opposition on non sub-continent grounds.

He's a hack. Always will be.

"I'd be absolutely thrilled if I get picked," he said in the Age. " If I get that selection, I'd be very thrilled and I think I'd be ready for it."

Deadly Akurrett was right. Should of just ignored it.

Lame argument, lame thread, lame poster.

"It's been a long ride, being 12th man last summer and with the World Cup stuff, but it's been an exciting one for me and I've just enjoyed the whole experience," he said. "If I wasn't around the team [as 12th man], I wouldn't be in this situation now. If I was sitting back at home watching and not being around the guys, it would probably be a different story."

Not seeing anything demanding selection here. Seems to be saying it helped him just being around the team.

I probably didn't expect to get as many wickets as I did

Nope doesn't sound like he is demanding selction

I think where I was last season when I was 12th man [for the Ashes], I probably wasn't ready. But now I back myself more.

Thinks he is ready to be picked.

That's all the quotes

Fill me in on what you are seeing that I am not?

He is crap I'll give you that but at least he is better then Pathan.
Would he not have a better oppurtunity as a pace bolwer on grounds that are not of the Sub-continent? Australian pitches have pace, bounce and seam movement offering more to bowlers, where as Indian pitches in particular are slow and low, thus they really don't give much of a chance to bowlers like Johnson who hit the deck hard.

This is one of your worst threads ever N/T. Not a huge fan of Johnson but what he's said there is no different to what any other sports person would say when asked?

Wow, so this is all because he sounds more confident than Tait?

Hmm, wonder why that would be? On one hand you have a bowler taking wickets for Australia, on the other you have an injury prone player who will have 1 fc game before the 1st test of the summer, Tait has no chance of being picked
