I haven't done this for a few years, but thought it would be good to start up again.

Lynch in the 10 and Crouch out for mine. Considering we didnt have him last year. I know we had Dangerfield, but not 1 game and 5th most important ahead of the likes of Smith and Betts is a bit extreme for me

Post your list.

Imo, b crouch is one of the most important players to the success of 2016. You need A grade midfielders to be successful.

I have dropped lynch's importance to the team as we now have menzel.

I would prefer to have Lynch over Menzel atm. Different types of players aswell
Same - lynch is more important than menzel.

They are different in styles, but both can play as a 2nd key forward when jj is rucking or resting.

Good effort - you have 2 levers & reminded me I missed Hunter.

Brown a bit higher for mine. Very important to shut down best small forward.
Did consider it.

Figured we have laird, vb & Kelly who could also shutdown a small forward if need be.

I pretty much agree with this list - especially the critical importance of Talia down back. If we had a stingy defence, an individual star backman wouldn't be at the top of the list, but we don't have a stingy defence.

Tex is rightly near the top - he was very, very sorely missed in 2013. The improvement of Jenkins and the acquisition of Betts don't diminish his enormous value.

Sloane and Brad Crouch should also be right up there. I'm in the camp that says the loss of Dangerfield will hurt, but Sloaney, a fit Brad and the others will minimise the hole.

Very High Importance (Key to the side):
Betts, Jacobs, Sloane, Walker, Talia, Smith, B. Crouch

High Importance (Comfortably best 22 players):
Thompson, Douglas, Brown, Jenkins, Lynch, Laird, Menzel, Cameron, M. Crouch, Lever

Medium Importance (Bottom 18-22 players):
Hartigan, Knight, Henderson, Hampton*, Seedsman*, Ellis-Yolmen, Jaensch

Low Importance
(Primary backups):
Cheney, Milera*, O'Brien*, Atkins, Grigg, Gore*, Shaw

Very Low Importance (Secondary backups or emerging non-best 22 players):
Otten, Lyons, Kelly, Dear, Doedee*, McGovern, Hunter*, Ramsey, Wigg, Van Berlo

No Importance (SANFL-only players):
Mackay, Greenwood*, Lowden, Beech, Keath*

*Too early to say

Something seriously wrong here when VB, Lyons and Otten are rated lower than Cheney, Atkins, Grigg & Shaw.

Grigg should be in the last group. The others should be swapped - VB, Lyons, Otten to Low Importance; Atkins, Cheney, Shaw to Very Low Importance.

I think tex is clearly our most important player. Captain, power forward and spiritual leader.

Next up are sauce and Talia for obvious reasons. Key position players with no obvious replacement.

At the end of the day midfielders are a dime a dozen but you build teams around players like tex sauce and Talia

Sauce and Tex.

But Sauce first.

When Sauce has a good game with his tapwork our mids dominate and we usually win. Thommo owed his Showdown medal this year to Sauce belting their Rucks. Sauce is also a very good linkman in the middle of the ground. Is always there for the bail out movement out of defence when our forwards are not in position or being covered. Is also a handy mark and kick for goal. He is top four in the AFL for Rucks amongst Sandi, Goldstein and NickNat. Also right now we have no decent backup AFL quality Ruckman.

Tex is important for every reason that everyone has said above. But I feel we can win if Tex is not playing. I fear for the the week we hear Jacobs can not play.

We won a Showdown with Talia getting injured. He too can be covered.

The selectors think this way, but I do not

It's interesting that most can agree on our 3 most important players... Just no their order.

Really splitting hairs depending on your viewpoint.
I think you have to have Walker well in front of the other two, you might be splitting hairs if you ignore the fact he's captain but you have to take that into account.

Interesting debate.

If most important = hardest to replace then it's a tie between Talia and Walker.

In terms of our barometer - if he's playing well we're playing well, I would go for Smith.

Last year in particular our fortunes seemed tied to his. He started in with dominant games v North and Coll before the concussion. When he went off that day our fortunes seemed to turn around right at that moment.

He started to regain form later in the year and we had a great run into finals - then the ankle v Geel set him (and us) back again.

The final was excellent but, having now seen the Hawks game, he seemed to send us on our way again with that kick in.

Just feels like when he is on so are we.

Again we disagree. :)

I rated walker the least if the 3 because imo we have an awesome forward line that could cope without him. Obviously wouldn't be as good, but still very dangerous. Our forward line is our strongest zone.

I think we are better placed than this time last year to cover Talia, with a solid season under the belt by hartigan & lever, along with Otten back from injury. But it would worry me if we had to rely on these guys to play on the gun forwards of the competition, particularly without Talia's leadership.

Losing Jacobs for say ROB would mean the midfield loses a dominant ruckman for a competitive one. Now we have lost one of our best ball-winners in Dangerfield, it's even more important we get good service from sauce.

Tex for me, my interest level severely drops when he's not there
That's for another thread... Rank the most watchable players. ;)

Couldn't be stuffed doing a a full list but my top 10 is:

1- Jacobs without him we have rookie rucks, who couldn't ruck the whole year on their own
2 - Tex, Captain, best forward and legend
3 - Talia, I think Hartigan could cover as the stopper defender but we have no one to replace Hartigan
4- Sloane, best mid
5- Smith, besides Tex best kick in the team and we need his run
6 - B Crouch now that Danger is gone is crucial to our team
7 - Betts, say no more
8 - Jenkins, dual position
9 - Lynch, plays a very important role
Drum roll and will be controversial.....
10 - Hartigan, purely as we don't have another key position defender on our list
