I collect trophies in PS3 games.

edit: I've been a forum member on GameFaqs for over 10 years now and still post there -_-

Gamespot forum member level 31 (should be much much much higher if i didn't have a few mishaps and use different accounts lol).

Level 37 on GameFaqs :D :thumbsu:, could possibly be level 38 with all of the days i forget to log in and check out new posts :o.

While i primarily play video games for fun, the addition of achievements and trophies has had me take a different slant on gaming. I try to get every achievement i can, heck i've played a number of games primarily for the easy achievement point boost.... some i legitimately enjoyed (the CSI games for example). I gradually set a bench mark where i would manage to unlock 14,000 GS points per year. There were times in 08 09 and 10 where it didn't look like i would keep the average up..... but then i'd end up smashing it. 2011 is a different story, i'm still 2,000 points shy.... and the deadline was in November. Since October all i have played is Forza 4 - and its a very slow process unlocking the achievements for it (only 310 so far).

Funnily enough, i couldn't give two hoots about PS3 trophies - mainly due to how often the console collects dust, and the fact that its trophies and not a number score system :p. I know the number of trophies builds up.... but i just prefer the Xbox point system.

Used to do both of these (in fact I used to moderate the board Marcus does now 3 or 4 years ago).

With work and sport, I don't have too much time for nerdy stuff anymore. Probably the most nerdy thing I do is play and watch Starcraft (I watch way too much Starcraft - GSL, MLG, IPL etc.)
awww Should we open a group for jcc members :p

I've tried grinding for achievements but I just don't understand the point.

Shouldn't you play games for fun rather than for unlocking achievements? I guess it's kinda linked to getting the high score, but unlocking achievements generally doesn't require that much skill and, like you said, many crappy games include easy achievements to lure cheap buys.

The fact you haven't done it already indicates a lack of nerdiness.

Also if it's a trophy/achievement I can get fairly easily in normal gameplay I'll probably do it, even if you wouldn't normally (like the dive 30 metres in Assassin's Creed 2 or lose 3 games of Caravan in New Vegas.) I don't grind for them though- if they're too hard or take too long I don't bother (see 'Ride 200 miles on the Horse' in Darksiders.)

I don't do it all of the time - in fact my completion rate is rather crap..... just over 68,000 points. But the reason why it is so high is due to the amount of games i have played rather than completing the one's i have. For the most part i only go for FULL achievements if they are attainable, i rarely do serious grinding for them (i will if it is fun and a part of the main game).

I have only 1000/1000 or 200/200 a couple of games (approx 10, i'll double check my profile and update later :p), while my GS is about 68,000 points the last time i was on XBL i saw that my actual GS should be 200,000+ - if i bothered to 1000/1000 or 200/200 every game i have played.

It would be even higher if i counted all of the games i had earned 0 points for, but deleted the references to the game(s) on my profile.

My brain goes nuts with numbers and word patterns, and symmetry. Like if i see a word, i'll start making anagrams and stuff in my mind, or with long numbers like phone numbers i'll see if the first 4 add up to the same as the last 4 and if not, what can i do to make it happen. Like if i minus one number instead of adding it does it work. Hard to explain but it's very hard for me to look at numbers and stuff without doing all these weird calculations in my head. I also try to work out averages a lot. Like walking past the cricket score and trying to figure out in my head what the run rate is, and average per batter.

Strangely enough, I'm a bit like this. Except that I try and see if the numbers in a phone number or on a license plate (well, any numbers I see really!) can be multiplied in some way - say, if the number is '3927' (3x9 = 27). I don't really have control over this process, it just occurs randomly. I guess I have always been good with numbers - guys at school used to whip out calculators and quiz me with things like "what's the square root of 500" or "what's 54 x 43". Used to freak them out when I gave the right answer :p
