We need Steven Smith to REMAIN Australian Captain. When he has served a period on introspection. This was a one off for him and he remains a Bradamesque character in cricketing terms. He should NOT be suspended from being our Test Captain. I will not call him a cheat either. Yep he had a weak moment and we need the full facts to be laid out before us. Everything else is noise especially the musings of Journalists who crave our attention and will write what amounts to garbage. We do not need their opinions on the matter they represent noise. Was Bradman perfect..historically yes but during his years there were many who criticized his demeanor and attitude to others no clean skin by any means. Bowlers / Players have fiddled around with balls for ever. They are trying to get a 5 and 3 quarter oz piece of leather to do random things in an attempt to get an out. Did the umpires take this ball out of the game...if the answer is no then no ball tampering in a manner that could be called cheating actually happened. I think this forum the media and some of the cricketing world has OVER REACTED. Especially the media Who CRAVE our attention.

This is just bullshit, he started against a South African attack that had destroyed us twice in a row on a seaming Day Night test pitch, performed reasonably without excelling on his 1st tour of the sub-continent and was dropped after a game on home soil against England.

Yeah he scored some runs against Pakistan, so did all our other batsman at the time. The man is out of form for the start of the home summer and after 3 innings where he reached double figures each time he is dropped before finding touch, had he been left in for the WACA/MCG games he would have scored hundreds on those dead lifeless wickets and he would still be in the side averaging 50 today.

1 score against a top flight team SA was a tick, he had one very good innings in India but was crap otherwise, 'reasonably well' yeah no. Rest of his runs all against Pakistan at home and the Bangers.

Suspect technique got horribly exposed against quality opposition.

Matthew Wade must be kicking himself. If he'd come through with the bat there's a good chance he would have been made captain.
 
Well, neither Smith nor Warner will be captaining the team for at least two years.

In Warner's case, I wouldn't be surprised if he never plays Test cricket again.

We've got a couple of good captains that are shit batsmen waiting in the wings. I'd be happy to bring in Bailey for a year or two if I thought he would average 35-40+ at test level but I reckon he'd just end up averaging 20 which would be detrimental to the side. Happy with Paine (C), M Marsh/Lyon (VC) for now.

Can anyone imagine 6 months ago Paine would be captain of Australia?

Mind you in the circumstances I am happy with him, seems a good guy.

The big positive of all this is no more Warner

Not to mention Mitch Marsh's name being considered in the conversation of who should be captain/vice captain.
