There are a couple of problems with the QE2 site. It doesn't allow for two full training fields (as one of the athletics tracks needs to be maintained). There are also existing tenants with rights to the site that we'd have to work with or around. Whether those things completely rule out the site is unknown but they are some of the limitations.

Is it also run by Stadiums Qld?

So what does this mean for the club?

Physiotherapy & sports science school of excellence based at our facilities.

We get priority access to professionals, their students get hands on experience in an elite environment.

Also, the guy who tweeted it, Jake Anson (super impressive dude) is the AFLQ infrastructure planning guru who is spearheading our T&A project. Have been briefed by him a couple of times.

The ACU partnership is a big part (along with MDA) of us being able to pitch our facilities as having a wider community benefit. Getting this signed off is a very strong pointer that it's all about to happen.

Hard to deny the wider benefit to the community now based on the success of the women's league. Who would have thought the success of the women would have such a positive affect on the club.

So looking at their block of land to build a training and fitness centre?

We had to get Women, God and Immigrants to get this done. We really do take the 'All for One' thing quite seriously.

I almost think in hindsight that prior to Gold Coast's ground being completely redeveloped (taking training facilities aside for both the Suns and the Lions) that a new stadium possibly could have been built half way between the two cities and the two clubs been co-tenants ala Eagles and Dockers in WA and Crows and Port in SA. I appreciate the Lions and Suns are located far further than the WA and SA examples, but a unique AFL stadium solely for AFL purposes being used once a week could have given both clubs (really Lions only) far greater control.

That being said, both sets of supporters would then be traveling a bit, particularly if such a stadium was say in a Logan for those north of the river.

The ground we play at isn't an issue. It's the training and admin facilities.

Appreciate our lack of training and admin is an issue, however one state of the art AFL venue in SEQ servicing both clubs could have been ideal in light of the present debacle that playing and training on the Gabba has become and will always exist.

Anyway it's not here nor there and the Lions will always be second class citizens under the current engagement.
