Just been rumoured on Channel Ten news here in SA that Jonty Rhodes may be coaching the redbacks next year. Jonty was a great player, and I feel I guy with all his international experience could be invaluable for our young team. It would be a super appointment if it was pulled off; however, all our other big name recruits in the past havent been too good - namely Chappell, Fleming, Flower, Elliot....

I doubt Jonty would lack the dedication required, he would be determined to win and he is a bloke I have always respected. He can't do any worse than our other coaches (who have been Aussie....)

I thought the SACA wer supposedly looking local?

Personally I think we need someone who understands Australian domestic cricket. ANd has a desire to improve SOuth AUstralian cricket. Chappells anyone?

Haviong said that, plenty of respect for Jonty. ON of the best fieldsmen to ever play the game.

As a player no problem..
Coach needs to be aware of aussie Pura Cup mentality and dedication to win...
SACA could not wait another 2-3 years for consistancy and promise ...it as to happen now SA need to show something now

That was for the captain. For the coach they were going to cast the net fairly wide. Would be very happy if Jonty gets the gig, the place seems to be in dire need of new blood and some fresh ideas.

Peter Sleep may be a chance for the Redbacks coaching job. He turned Tea Tree Gully's A-Grade around in the season just gone. Nathan Adcock is a strong chance to be the next captain, he is a very good leader and communicator.

i think it will be Dan Harris as skipper

he's been in the side a little longer, copes a little better under pressure, doesn't go off half-**** when things don't go his way and is still an extremely good player.

Nathan Adcock is really only starting his domestic career, and putting the pressure on him so soon may not work in his favour.

Both excellent candidates, but Doc has got to get the gig.

As for Coach: Peter Sleep is an excellent coach, i still think they will go for a bigger name though. Rod Marsh and Geoff Marsh are still in the mix, i wouldn't be surprised if it is one of them.

 Is this the same Nathan Adcock I am thinking of? If I recall rightly, he has been around for years, just now is getting noticed though....

i've known Bowser for a few years, he's been around for a while, i'm aware of that, but in terms of getting continous state games? he's sort of only re-starting his Domestic career, it's taken him a while to get this far.

Good on him though, i've got nothing against him.

According to TV..redbacks coach position candidates are:

1. Siddons (Whats he done)
2. Bennet King (Whats he done)
3. Mark Sorrell (who is he,whats he done?)
4. Someone called McInness I think. (Who is he???)

What happened to the class acts, Buchannan, Marsh G, Clarke, Rixon ..nomention??

SA get second best again??..hope thet don't do a Chapple...

Who knows, who cares.

We'll still be soft, uninspired and rubbish.

Mark Sorell is coach of the Aussie Women's Team I belive,

I think Siddons has some varied expearance of coaching, both with South Australia, and the Acadamy and a little bit of back up work with the Aussie one day team.

Out of these 4, he is your best bet I think.

stuff local - everyone we have got that is from SA or even aus has just made things worse

we need someone who is willing to bring fresh ideas and stand up against the old boys club.

we actually need someone who is willing to walk away if they can't change things

I think that's Kim Harris. Played a bit for SA, he played and coached at Adelaide CC for ages now is in charge of the cricket program at Westminster College. One from leftfield.

They had interviews on all day today, reckon there will be an announcement tomorrow.

agree 100% capital

That'd be Richard McInnes.

Superb youth-level coach who worked wonders with the Bangladeshi under-age teams. Much of Bangladesh's improvement in the last couple of years is down to his work in the development system. He's regarded very, very highly over there. He's also on their shortlist of prospective coaches to replace Dav Whatmore.

Currently working for the Australian academy.

My first post in a while but I wanted to have my say

The SA Cricket Association today appointed former Australian women's team mentor Mark Sorell as Redbacks coach.

Sorell has no first class playing experience but was a stalwart keeper-batsman for Salisbury (Northern Districts) and spent five seasons in the SACA training squad from 1987-92.

An accredited Cricket Australia level three coach, Sorell fits SACA's search for a "man manager" able to guide specialist coaches.

SACA’s High Performance Director Rod Marsh said Sorell was the ideal candidate to lead and develop the young Redbacks squad.

“Mark has a great deal of knowledge in both local and international cricket, and his recent experience with the Southern Stars has given him valuable exposure to elite coaching methods,” he said.

------------------

I know of Mark through some work I did with the SACA and Cricket Council and while a nice enough bloke I think this is the wrong direction for SA cricket...not for his qualifications but for his self interest in not rocking the boat.

I think SA Cricket needed a person to come in from outside and rock some established boats... Mark wont do this.

I hope to be back here in a year or two apologising for getting it wrong... somehow I dont think so but good luck Mark
