You’re seeing what you wanna see.

If the crows didn’t exist would port have been given the current rule or the 100 game access to port players?
I agree. If you guys went into the AFL in 1991 the AFL would have recognised F/S as the 100 game rule for the one club.

But that didn't happen.

You went into the AFL as an SANFL part owned composite side (much like us but we were fully SANFL owned) and the status of your F/S ruling reflects this.

Maybe Kochie and KT could propose to the AFL that after the merger of the Power and Magpies and no SANFL ownership/control of the licence the rule should be different to ours to be in line with all the VFL clubs.
Any former Port player (SANFL/AFL) who played 100 games for Port has his sons qualify F/S. And do away with qualification from any other SANFL team.

Since the merger it is logical that should be the rule.

Yeah nah.

We got stuck with the split sanfl rule to make us even with the crows.

If the crows didn’t exist and we came into the league do you believe we would have been given access to just port 100 gamers or sanfl clubs 200 gamers?

It would have been port.

I’m unsure what basis you would have had claim to them?

I heard there was a coach f/s rule at the time that they didn’t qualify for and no such rule exists now. Is that correct?
Graham played well over 200 games for Glenelg and was our first coach. If his kids dont qualify then none do. For you or us.

The F/S ruling for guys wbo only played for an SANFL club for both AFL clubs should just be scrapped.

We have existed for long enough to now have sons of Crows players play for the club. Port now have a legitimate claim to the SANFL Port heritage since the merger of Magpies and Power.

They weren't eligible at the time due to the 20-year window rule. Graham played too many of his games before the window opened. They'd be eligible now, since the AFL introduced the Grandfather Rule in 2007, which did away with that 20 year window limitation.

The AFL also used to include games coached as an eligibility criteria. Kane & Chad would have been eligible under this rule too, if Adelaide had waited 1 more year before sacking Graham. Adelaide didn't wait, and the Cornes brothers missed on both eligibility criteria (SANFL & AFL games coached).

It's a complete mockery of the rules and shows how lax the AFL are on setting up strict qualifications that a kid whose Dad played 200 odd games of football and has been playing AFL since he was in Auskick qualifies for any sort of special academy's or drafting discounts just because he was born in Egypt.

Along with Blakey's kid at Sydney and Scott's kid at the Gold Coast it's all insane.

Hell, indigenous next gen academies to ensure young indigenous footballers from the Eyre peninsula finally get a chance is a bit insane considering the guns that have come from there over the years.

The AFL's drafting process is an absurdly tampered process

Is that legit?

Gold if so.
Not sure how mate? If he loves Poort -and by logical default therefore isn’t overly enamoured by the Crows - he would be less inclined to be taken by us as part of the Academy in 3 years time. And even if he was taken by us, it could be another Ebert situation on our hands awaiting the first opportunity to jump ship.

Best hope is Dad has broken the Poort mound ie actually got himself a job (and a global Management role at that) and seen the light and hopes his kids are brought up in a more professional and successful football environment, with the added geographical bonus of lower incidence of car theft whilst parked at training

There's a fair few stories of die hard Port boys drafted by the Crows and vice-versa. Think of Cornes/Brodie Smith.

Brad Symes is the only one whose jumped ship that comes to mind having previously stapled his colours to the mast.

Anyone know what Symes is up to these days?

I am sure Daisy Borlase laments the lack of a successful environment from his playing days....

the Crows wouldn't have gone to effort if the player didn't want to come.

the gold part is simply Port fans will melt. Lets be honest most players have a club they were fans of, but that would stop the moment you get drafted or this case join a club. I doubt I will make a difference in the long run. I would think had we recruited Ebert, he'd still be here.

And its not about him joining in 3 years time.

Hes eligible now. He can join the NGA now. Gets a leg up over his sanfl rivals by having 3 years training in an AFL environment.

Was referring to your new club, Poort Power, and their inferior relative and absolute success compared to SA’s leading AFL club.

Also with the amount of controversies your clubs is mired in both on and off field - can’t be stuffed listing them all - not sure how any responsible parent would be comfortable handing over their kids future prospects to your mob

Ok mate, I genuinely hope you are right as we will be able to feast on this one for potentially a decade or more :)

True but Symes compared to a Borlase or Ebert is perhaps a slightly different situation.
