I've never seen a player recommended for senior selection based on junior performance.

Just listened to interview where Hayden recalled being booed at mcg because he replaced Elliot in 90's. Yeah, people care particularly if state has been starved of stars.

That's not a true representation of what I'm saying, but using stats to assess ability of players is not an out there concept in cricket. Name-calling is substitute for being able to form a logical argument.

Again, saying you're a moron is simply a statement of fact.

Stats are important but context is important in relation to them. You're listing them off without actually delving into them, or watching him play to understand why the hype is there.

As soon as anyone mentions his name you jump up and down and bitch about Vic media, reel off his stats and make false claims about people wanting him to be in the side immediately, when all anyone is saying is that at 19, he's a future test prospect based on watching him play to provide context.

I mean, you even bitched about his coach answering a question about him in a positive manor.

I haven't seen all his games, but what I have seen has impressed me.

He has a technique that is better than the average, and a temperament that also seems above par.

He is yet to realise his full potential, but the talent is there. He has much to learn about the game, and himself, but I believe we'll have a Test batsman if he learns and applied those lessons.

Right now we're watching him slowly emerge and develop. In time he'll blossom.
 
I do like Peake but I understand where the people that don't care for the media wank over him just yet are coming from. He looks decent but at the end of the day he is only averaging 22, yet parts of the media are banging on like he's the next Bradman. Just let the kid play without piling on these insane expectations. As someone who has watched plenty of them in the shield, I have my concerns with how square he wants to play anything and everything outside off stump, he gets caught at point and gully a lot. Promising but nothing more than that at this stage.

Technically he’s a long way ahead of the rest…a long way and I watch a lot of it. The media have jumped on since his little cameos. But he stands out amongst the rest because his technique is much neater than the split grip, bottom hand nightmares elsewhere.

Add Sydney boy Riley Kingsell. Same as your pair he is no habitual stonewaller but uses his gears if game situation calls for it. My guy is also the youngest to hit a PC red ball double century.

Young batsmen who start Shield cricket promisingly often face a second wave of challenges, once there's more footage and data available on them.

Bowling attacks hone in on weaknesses. Favourite scoring areas get closed off. Their technique gets tested.

There's also the challenge once there are a few low scores. Public scrutiny, media scrutiny - even in domestic cricket circles. Internal doubts creep in, career ambitions flashing before their eyes. How many young players are able to cope with this?

Often a player gets spat out of the system after these initial speedbumps. Earn themselves another crack down the road and come back better equipped to handle things.

All takes time unfortunately. Years.

Travis Head was fortunate that the Redbacks were so woeful that his initial periods of 30 something averaging were enough to be deified rather than putting his spot in jeopardy.

Maybe gets whitemans spot at the top of Marsh? will play one dayers when they start up he made a good 50.
throw Goodwin into that mix another who has hit a low patch,


Still hold hope Dixon will go bang sooner then not.

Lachmund was a bit erratic in his first spell, maybe some nerves or just a bit of rust. His second spell was sensational though, enormous hooping in swinger on him. A lot to like.
 
have mentioned this before but this is the biggest no name U18 squad I can remember, im not completely across the 19s but you get a clue who is what at FC level, feels like none have really done anything to even bounce into 2nd XI action
 
Its a shame Esterhuysen is that tweener age that doesn't really get a chance at the u19 world cup as he could be a top bowler. This attack doesn't look like we will get a ton out of them at this stage. Lets hope one of them really puts their hand up, dominates this tournament and puts themselves on the map. Lachmund looking the most likely at this stage.

Not worried about the batsmen. Peake, Hogan, Lee-Young is decent group. I hope people expectations weren't raised to high by last tournament's crop that had test prospects up and down. A couple international regulars is a very good result from any u19 team.

What? This never happens. Hardly any of the 2024 group had played 2nd XI or been close to it. Konstas was the only one if my memory serves me correctly.

They definitely have been. That was an incomparable group of players, even if only a handful really push on, the level they were at at 18/19 and how many of them there were at the same time might never happen again.

Premier cricket teams have resorted to sledging him as "Brisbane Bradman" to take the piss and try to get him to hit the ball in the air. Quite funny because all that has achieved in the last year is that he just hits the ball harder now that he has got a bit bigger, still along the ground though. Averaging 70 in red ball premier cricket this season and striking in the high 60's

Hit a nice one in the air to bring up 50 so he has got it in his arsenal. Just picks his battles which is great to see
