Next years draft

Prior to the trade perid im pretty sure.

So for that to happen, there would be the GF, then draft camp, then the bidding, then trade week all in the space of a couple of weeks.

You'd want to be well prepared.

I'd presume they wouldn't do the bidding prior to the draft camp.

Aswell as drafting a high draft midfielder at the end of the year, i think we should trade for some young talent (fast skillfull in and under mid and an outside quick skillful mid) eg. Lewis, Higgins, Rosa and/or maybe even a young developing ruckman.

I would be very interested in getting a young Ruckmen and i think Brisbane could be the place to look at. With Them having Matthew Leuenberger, Jamie Charman, Cameron Wood and even Mitch Clark pinch hitting we could maybe work some deal out.

Drafting another young ruckman wont help our cause. The two we currently have are pretty ordinary so we need to look at an upgrade for the time needed until Ryder can take over the duties.

Agreed.

Ruckmen seem to be hit and miss. We wasted our first pick a few years ago on Laycock (the best ruckman in that draft apparently) while guys like Cox and Sandilands go in the rookie draft.

I'd rather we used our early picks to get a couple of gun midfielders and then use the latter picks for the lottery that is ruckmen.

What's this?

After being touted as top 4, now you're thinking about tanking for picks?

Shame on you Bomber fans, Finals is something for all to fight for, giving up a place in the 8 for picks is illogical, you lot can get 12 wins!

That's pretty rich coming from Collingwood, who clearly tanked 05' to get Thomas and Pendlebury.

Funny how no-one manned up on Shannon Grant in the last quarter as he kicked four to get North over the line back then.

After Freo in 99' the second team in the comp to tank. Disgraceful.

I reckon we need to focus on a gun ruckman. Hille is an average ruckman at best. Laycock is shiite. Maybe we should hold off and give mckinnon a run. havent seen him yet so cannot comment on him. we havent had a gun ruckman since Madden.

A midfielder with pace and smarts would be nice, cant ask too much can I???

p.s. when do bendigo play and where?

yeah paul salmon and steven allessio were pretty shit werent they

Now now, I wont have anyone badmouthing Steve Alessio. He was my fave player. If anyone should be getting bagged, its Peter Somerville or Judd Lalich. And FYI, check out Mark's place in Carlton. Steve Alessio's restaurant, serves great pasta.

F/S don't normally go to draft camp. Apart from the likes of Hawkins, Jesse Smith and Mark Murphy I doubt it would be a huge differences to many F/S selections if not make it a lot more fair to clubs like Adelaide who have never had a father son pick.

The rule used to be a second round pick like in the 2000 draft was fairly him and miss when Jason Cloke and Steven Greene were used for F/S picks while stars like Daniel Kerr, Mark Couglan and James Davies (still waiting on that one) all went with picks around them.

People use the example of Geelong having 6 or 7 players on there list and not being that close to winning a premership but the question should be asked how many of those players would have been playing in the premership side

if the premier offers their first round pick for a kid it means that if a side wants that same kid they need to offer their first round pick.

don't worry about this happening with daniher. he isn't a first rounder. at best he is worth a 2nd rounder. i'd be very surprised if sydney offered their first or second picks for him. anyways they would be looking for some classy on-ballers.

i hope that we don't get stuck with a "ok" first round pick. if we end up with a draft pick between 5 and 12 i reckon we should trade it.

we should either try to get a very early pick so we can get the best midfielder possible e.g. cotchin. or we should trade the pick and a decent player for a gun on-baller (easier said than done).

i just don't want to be in the situation again where we end up with a good kid rather than a gun kid. an example of this was in 2004. we got monfries who hasn't set the world on fire. could have we traded up and ended up with one of griffen or jordan lewis??

That was under the old rule when other clubs had no chance of recruiting them.

Under this rule they do, if they want to make a bid they'll want to see them at the draft camp first.

Dead agreed. Watch Monfries in the next 2 yrs. This year has been practically the first year he has played time in the midfield and once he plays more in the midfield we have a great gun midfielder in Monfries. Honestly any pick from 4-12 will be good. I honestly do hope we use 1 of the first 2 of our picks on a ruckman as we frankly do not have one. I'd be even tempted to try and get one out of Brisbane- they have like 6!

you wouldn't want a pick between 5-12? I assume your still sour over our "ok" picks we wasted like Bradley. If we had a top 4 pick 2 years ago we probably wouldn't have Ryder today, and the only bloke i'd trade him for out of that draft was Murphy. I like picks 5-12 it gives you gambling options, with a top 4 pick you basically have to take the best player left and should that turn out to be a Gumbleton or Hansen again next year we definitely dont need it.
