The McLeod / Edwards / Lleyton Hewitt / all the wives sh*t show that began over 15 years ago revealed a lot about a couple of legends of the club, and that they are all not very nice people, and despise each other, and now the club. The sooner they all piss off into history the better. And sadly, their kids are by default dragged through it. It is good of the club to take this action, in Luke's best interests.

What did macca do wrong? His missus had a blow up with Edwards' missus and Hewitt used footage for commercial purpose without authority or at least underhandedly. I don't blame either of the blokes for the chicks going at it. If they demanded the club act on their wife's side I'd have a different view. But I've not heard anything other than they had a strained relationship but both acted professionally for many years.

Didnt we have a thread where the whole premise was worrying that Edwards wouldn't nominate Adelaide? I guess we can add that one to the hall of regrettable threads.
And there was a lot of vitriol towards Edwards for not nominating us when we clearly don’t want him.

The only time Tyson has been complimentary about the club was when he took the opportunity to contradict McLeod earlier in the year. Not a nice word to say except if macca is bagging us, then we're great.
Believe me, Tyson is not without blame for that relationship breakdown between himself and the club. My comment about the way other former great players i.e. McLeod have been felt to feel unwelcome by the club. Surely you could agree that no matter who is at fault for the way things are between Tyson and the club, that it is a shame that things currently sit the way they do.

This one is case of learning from what happened with his brother.

The club had no real interest in Jackson, nominated him, took him as a rookie then delisted him. Family felt rightly or wrongly it cost him a chance at an AFL career.

This time around, club are distancing themselves from Luke and other clubs can seriously think about drafting him.

This is actually the AFC doing the right thing by the family, this is what they want.

I wonder if Mark Williams has had any input. He poked his nose in with Jackson.

Did you not read what his manager said, this wasn't Tyson, Luke or even Chocko's decision...it was the AFC's decision not to nominate him which would indicate that Hamish and his scouts rate him outside of our picks 1, 9, 22 and 23. It might also indicate they have Borlase ahead of him in their rankings.

Would anyone have interest in him if his last name wasn’t Edwards? I feel like a middle to late rated half back is the last thing we need. Not because of David Mackay, but because of Wayne Milera, Andy McPherson, Will Hamill, Lachlan Sholl. I think our stocks of half backs with midfield potential is filled quite nicely with some of the best talent on our list.

Good size, good kick, midfield potential.

I'd be interested, especially later in the draft.

We do probably need one or two more half back/wing players, though we're not in a rush to obtain them. I'd also would be super hesitant to drop early draft picks in this area unless we got a standout prospect available to us.

Yeah even just watching him in that u18s all star game he was probably a bit above most in terms of skills and composure. Just looked more advanced, yet still somehow doesn't stand out. I can't see him falling that much further than late second round.

I don't get the comments about borlase. Surely he's not going to be bid on before 23?

Pick 40 onwards would be where Borlase may have some interest from other clubs is my feel....no doubt we'd like him to slip through to the rookie draft.

Talk of only 50-60 picks, some clubs only having 1 pick, will there be passes earlier than 40? Or more pick trades into next year

Obviously that looks to be the case, don't expect there will too many trades of 2020 picks for 2021 picks unless a player that clubs thought would be long gone on their draft boards is still available.

Yep, this would be our hope. Borlase and Newchurch would nicely fill our two vacant Cat B spots.

I don’t disagree, but it also feels like we’d probably be happy to rookie him, but the Edwards family would not.

If he's not drafted in the National Draft they won't have too many other options if he wants to play AFL given other AFL clubs could take him with a late pick in the National Draft if they had any interest. I think with his body of work as a junior he definitely deserves a shot at AFL...could nearly have made last year's U18 All Australian team as an under-ager after a sterling Nationals.

I'm pretty indifferent to committing to Edwards after the nonsense from the family after Jackson got delisted.

Either way, sounds like the clubs is making decisions on talent/merit, not last names which is prudent/responsible recruiting given reduction in list spots and rebuild phase.

From a distance away and with little detailed knowledge on either it feels like Edwards has slipped this year to about the place that Borlase has risen to.

Ultimately it's a matter of whether we wanted him at all. If not, then whether we can get him cheap is a fool's argument.

That is the basis of almost all consumer marketing; Convince people to buy stuff for which they have no need, but make them feel good about it because they've got a bargain.

This. You can't expect Macca & Edwards to back their teammate over their wife. AFAIK neither let their personal falling out impact their performance or the way they played together, and for that we should respect them even more.

I think, the club thinks there is likely to be several players who we rate very highly available at around pick 40 onwards. I know the club would have seen this year as an opportunity since we rate our talent ID second to none and would've licked our lips at the prospect of a lot of clubs just focussing on the first two rounds leaving all sorts of opportunities to clubs willing to put in the effort. We only probably have one maybe two picks left at that stage (40 onwards) and so lets say we have edwards rated as the 27th best player this year, what if there is also the 24th and 18th rated player (according to us) still available as well. We would simply be untrue to our talent order to take Edwards. So its better to let him go in the main draft and see how he goes. Maybe it gets to the day and all the players we want are gone and he's available at 40 and we take him, maybe not.

Mine I think. Seemed a good idea at the time

So we have nominated Borlase and Newchurch but hoping to get them as rookies as we only want to draft 4 players in the main pool.

I think we would match anyone for Borlase if it came to it but maybe not Newchurch.
