Saw Nick Stevens on fox footy news last night.Desperately trying not to answer where he will be next year.
Any one got any goss.?

read something in inside football his going Collingwood, and he wants to be with his family aswell...but who knows...

everyone seems to be going Collingwood :)

Collingwood

Straight swap for Didak. I didn't hear this anywhere, just sounds like a suitable trade if he wanted to come home and play for the club he supported as a youngster.

We'll give him $350-400K if he nominates for the pre-season draft.

Don't think we could facilitate a deal with Port unless we parted with Corey Enright, which won't be happening anytime soon.

Port are one club that can cover a loss like stevens. Young salopek will be a star and from what the port supporters keep telling us ebert's kid can play. They will most likely get a very good player and a draft pick for him at least. Cant see port losing out of any deal they get for him.

Looks very likely that Stevens will not be at the Power next year. But to the Pies & other Victorian clubs, he will not come cheaply! There is no chance Port would accept only handy players such as Scotland as part of the trade. Bell was worth 2 1st round picks, so I would suggest Nick would be worth something similar.

hard ball

Port will play so ****ing hard with this trade.
They're notorious for trying to screw other clubs in trading. (I have no issue with that, by the way, aggressive trading is the hallmark of a good club.)
You just have to look at the trade we did with them last year - pick 18 for Barnaby French!
Sure, we needed a ruckman, and sure we would've lost that pick if it hadn't been traded, but despite all that we still got screwed!

IMO Port, cannot lose if they trade Nick Stevens. Sure he is a terrific player and may well come close to winning a brownlow one day but really, they coudl easily get a high quality player of similar age and a high draft pick which may produce another Nick Stevens. Id trade him for Didak and a top 10 pick...not that I give a hoot about Port and their team tho....Salopek is going to be a star as is Ebert, who averages some 28 kicks in the SANFL.

Nick wont be at Port next year. I've explained my reasons all too often.

He worshiped [or worships as the case may be] Collingwood when he was young, apparently he still has quite a lot of Collingwood merchandise in his house, seeing as he put the old one up for auction for the whole world to see, and my friend happened to see it.

Also, a little bit of interesting information. About a month ago at Power training when I was autograph hunting, I was leaving for the trainstation via the players carpark. Some guy was leaving carrying a briefcase and had a Collingwood jacket on. He got into a maroon Holden that had a Magpies sticker on the back windscreen, and the numberplate was Magpies·05. I'm assuming it was a Collingwood official, so obviously someones on their way.

I doubt we'd offer more than Didak, he was a higher pick and is 3 years behind Stevens. Definately not a trade we'd consider.

Think Nick has had his chance to come home to us, he'll just have to settle for another Melbourne club who will cough up a high draft pick + more perhaps for him. Melbourne or Richmond spring to mind. We'll be too busy chasing Browndog. I have no doubt Nick wants to play for us though.

I was going to post I thought he would stay put, but Kid Dynamite's nearly convinced me he's signed with the Pies!:D

I still think he will stay, the Collingwood link comes up yearly and probably will continue to do so. Besides, I want Robert Murphy!

Port can't lose. All 3 options look good:

1. He hasn't signed because he's decided to go home. Port will get a great deal for him.

2. He hasn't signed because he's taking a risk and hoping he has a huge finals series, which will up his salary, no matter where he goes, but still Port either keep him (good), or get even more for him than he's worth (great).

3. He's staying at Port and the contractual stuff is coming along nicely.

The only way Port may lose is if he has a crap finals series AND is 100% determined to go home in 2004...but even then they'd still get plenty for him in a trade.

Stevens to Carlton
Whitnall to Geelong
Pick 6 to Port

Would need some tinkering but the basics are there.

I would think Port would want a low draft pick adn Collingwood don't have one. I can't him coming to Collingwood on that basis. He can certainly play and anyone of his calibre that is a true Magpie at heart is worth serious consideration but right now Collingwood need to recruit to win premierships and another quality midfielder wont add nearly as much as a ruckman. Players Port may be interested in would be Scotland and Didak and we have a draft pick somewhere in the mid teens. If we were to trade the picka dn these 2 players I'd much rather have a ruckman. If and only if we couldn't get a ruckman I'd be happy with Scotland or Didak but with the round 1 pick thrown in I'd be pretty tentative. I'd ceratinly do it for either player and a round 2 pick but I don't think Port would take that because I would think they would ratehr a low draft pick than Scotland and poosibly Didak. Then again, if any one of the 3 players performs very well in September they may become more valuable.

Stevens to Collingwood is the standard trade rumour each year for Nick.

Stevens for Didak is the standard trade on offer because Didak comes from Port and Stevens was a Collingwood supporter.

Id bloody well hope we get a lot more than Didak for Stevens.

Stevens is a top line midfielder.

Didak is an average goalsneak at the moment that hasnt done much at all compared to what he should have done by now.

In Stevens third year, he led our disposals, missed 5 games with suspension and still came 2nd in our BnF by only 1 vote, and would have been AA had he not been suspended 3 times.

Didak in his third season has struggled as a forward flanker.

Didak and 1st round pick would be better.

BIGCAT: Port are gunning for the premiership this year and over the next 2-3 years as well. Losing our no.1 midfielder for a draft pick is not a trade that Port would do considering our position. We are not looking at redeveloping our club. We are at the top and what to stay there. That trade would be ridiculous.
