An email from the CEO basically pleading for people to turn up. Last weeks loss obviously has the Club a little worried regarding attendence.

They seem to have every fandangled plan about increasing membership.......................except the one that actually works.

Something weird snake about our numbers. Watch any finals footy during the 90s and there are absolute hordes of North supporters at the G.

I think the magic mark in the 90s was to hit 20k members.
We got there eventually , and have struggled to grow.
Take away 6k Tassie and 4 game memberships and the multiple memberships purchased by our faithful. Which didn't exist then and take that away from our current tally and we'd be flat out with 30k real paid up members.
In 20 years we have only manage to grow 50%
Crowds are even more starting.
We had better averages in the 90s

What has the huddle produced? Where is the spike in numbers because of the AFLW?

The club is out of touch with reality. This is why I am calling for complete regime change.

Hawthorn were on the exact same starting line as us back in the 70's, and they have shown that ruthless administration and sustained on field success are the key drivers to significantly improving spectator support. Everything else is a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay distant second.

Absolutely if nothing changes nothing changes.

If they are of the opinion that onfield success leads to off field success, then there is justification right there for a coup

If nothing changes WE WILL DIE!

2007 will have been for nothing.

The 90’s were different times. It was a privilege to be able to enjoy that period in my 20’s and it fitted in perfectly with my lifestyle having so many Friday night games. I find them hard to get to with work now.

I think the AFL was determined to kill off clubs when we had our period of sustained success. Ross Oakley and particularly Wayne Jackson would have preferred to see us and the Bullies go under, probably Melbourne and Hawthorn too.

This combined with the Wayne Carey debacle and several years in no-mans land has left the club in a difficult place.

Having sustained success as the sole means to keep the club going is not realistic IMO. It is however a good way to start something. I suspect the Bullies have undone a fair amount of the gains they made from their premiership in terms of paid up members outside of the rusted on ones they already had, they will however have a new generation that will bear fruit in time.

I would like to see the club solidify it’s position in a way that didn’t rely on football results. Then bottoming out as a team isn’t necessarily a doomsday scenario but an opportunity to build up to something special. Those great teams through the 90’s were built on the back of talented young players getting given opportunities, too many seem to languish in the VFL and never break through.

Maybe we can send an SOS to Donald Trump?
Your right in what your saying but in saying that nothing will change we at North Melbourne no more ne want can't get big name players over the line with multi million $$$ contracts can't attract decent off field people.
Be lucky to attract 20k to our game tomorrow even with the old Fitzroy supporting the lions with them on the roll after beating west coast last week.
We need a Trump type to come to our club with a big broom to start the clean up.

I’m living overseas at the moment. Bought an international membership. The code they gave me doesn’t work for the WatchAFL website. I missed out on watching our first match (thank god). I emailed them multiple times, finally they responded saying that it’s an AFL issue. I asked for an AFL email contact. They said the AFL should be in contact with me and if they’re not then my account is fixed.

The AFL have not been in contact with me. The voucher code still does not work.

I have asked for a new code. I haven’t received a response.

I have not received the “product” that I have paid money for.

To use an old cliche, I’m not angry, I’m just disappointed.

The problem is that for us suckers (true north diehards) watching North Melbourne is an addiction and thus memberships are a highly inelastic good. The thing is, this isn’t true for tens of thousands of more casual fans who would just as readily take out a golf membership or a theatre membership or buy a boat and go fishing on weekends if the entertainment value for money and the service is better.

We have the smallest fan base in Melbourne. To be competitive we need to be BETTER and more innovative in the membership department than the other clubs who can rely on large bases. We cannot rely on the goodwill of our supporters and our small passionate base. North people are good people but they are at the end of the day still people.

Hopeless

You do know how well Don works with his trusted friends?

He sacks them

Big name players wouldn't have helped in display last week and a game plan and culture of mediocrity.
Martin in the forward line, JK in the middle, Gaff on a wing.

Snake's idea of challenging the Board is worth pursuing, but it's a long shot and requires an immense amount of work.

In the short term, is it worth writing a respectful letter / petition, citing cases like this one, and asking the club for an explanation. If we could get perhaps one hundred member signatures, it would be a little harder for the club to ignore us.

Would people be willing to provide enough details / evidence to hand to the club? Would people be willing to sign such a letter?

Yeh - I used to by five, I dropped off the ANU kid, the oldest can pay for his own now (not that he will). Pay for the school age one and donate one for the Mrs. Hard not to feel the Club is less than mediocre at the moment. Can't say I enjoyed Ben Buckley's e-mail this arvo
Didn’t receive Ben’s email, obviously haven’t been a member long enough, only 45 years

“Dear CM,

Throughout 2019 I want to open up the lines of communication with you on a regular basis.

This is an opportunity for me to communicate directly with you, our members, and provide you with an opportunity to discuss the issues that are important to you. I’ll be writing to you monthly via our website, with an update and a point of view about the important things that concern our club.

This week, I write to you in circumstances that aren’t the best after a disappointing defeat in WA, but my optimism remains unshaken.

As Jack Ziebell said, those three hours in Perth won't derail our season nor will they define our club or team. Brad and the coaches have assessed what went wrong and what needs to be fixed. I know the players and coaches have had an extremely productive week and I, like you, will be expecting a response befitting our standards and values.

I was delighted with the debut of Bailey Scott. For such a young kid to come in and show poise and skill beyond his years was extremely encouraging. It was also great to have his father, Robert, a premiership player, in the rooms along with his mum, Kerry, and younger brother, Darby.

I was at the game and couldn't help but be impressed by the level of support the 40,000-strong Fremantle crowd provided and the atmosphere generated in the stadium. This week, we have the chance to bounce back against the Lions, but we need a parochial and passionate army behind us. While there might be a temptation to sit back and wait, I urge you to show some urgency and wear our colours with pride and get behind the boys. The one thing North supporters have always been, even since my time in the game, is resilient and loyal, and we're hoping for a big turn-out. We have some massive games coming up and we will need all the support we can possibly get.

I'm very confident we will make our 150th year one to remember, and I assure you we will leave no stone unturned to make it a success.

When I took over as chairman from James Brayshaw at the end of 2016, I knew we had a lot of work to do on the field. Our list had been turned over and a re-build of sorts had begun. Since then, our list managers, medical staff, coaches and players have done a great job to ensure we’ve stayed competitive. Last year, we weren’t supposed to be the finals equation, but only missed out on September action by the slimmest of margins.

With the likes of Jarred Polec, Aaron Hall, Jasper Pittard and Dom Tyson, our list has been improved and more raw talent has been acquired with the likes of Tarryn Thomas, Bailey Scott, Curtis Taylor and Joel Crocker. While we know some more pieces need to be added to the puzzle, we feel that the foundations have been laid and the ingredients for success are largely there.

But talk is cheap, and our actions must do the talking - starting on Sunday against the Lions. I ask that you turn out in force so we can get our season underway.

Focusing on other areas now and I want to take this opportunity to congratulate our AFLW team for a magnificent first season. With Scott Gowans and Emma Kearney leading the way, the girls made us proud in their first season. The list management team is already hard at work forming next year's squad and from what I'm already hearing, we will be contenders again. Thanks to all of you who signed on as Foundation Members and supported the women so passionately. It means a lot to all of us to have one of the biggest fan-bases in the league.

A lot has gone right for us this year already with stage 1 of our new facilities close to being finalised. Again, a massive thanks to all those who donated - without you, we could not have made that happen. The AFL, AFLW, VFL and soon VFLW now have new locker rooms, a players' lounge, sauna, heat room, and expanded gym. Soon the coaches box tower will be on-line, the new light towers will be made operational and the scoreboard installed; just in time for us to bring football back to Arden St. with the VFL season about to get underway.

To finish up, thank you for your ongoing support and loyalty.

Sincerely,

Ben Buckley
Chairman - North Melbourne Football Club

10 words dedicated to problems accompanied by a 750 word self congratulatory commercial.

It's insulting, but that's what you get from the North head office these days.
