I think it is the membership department that needs a kick up the ass......present no value whatsoever in any category....they really just rely on peoples love of the club to make what is effectively a donation.

They need to get back to presenting value for money, and give a reason to buy a membership, not just charge the same regarding of how many games are played in Melbourne (and don't start me on interstate memberships!).
Its part of the problem. The relationship has been transactional for far too long.

Its hard to market a team at the bottom of the ladder.

As soon as we climb the rungs as this young team I would expect the marketing team to go ballistic. It makes sense to save your budget till you have that momentum.

I think those doing the tassie team are doing a good job, who cares what tricks they are pulling.

Lets say they up the members ship to 100 next year - a lot of those 10 dollar members would be retained. Being a 'founding' member also has a special significance, and I think that plays well for retaining numbers if they manage that well.
Maybe they’ve taken some tips from our membership department and all these foundation memberships will be auto-renewed next year but on a more expensive membership level.

As i said, wait for the start of 2nd season. They will never get success just off the bat as it takes at least 5 years for a good team to build chemistry.
Admittedly footy is much harder with many more moving parts but what you're saying is exactly what they said about the JackJumpers, predicted by many to finish last. Us Taswegians can live in hope!

You can of course. And I’m a big supporter of TAS having their own team. The list requirements of an AFL team vs basketball are chalk and cheese, however.
I hope they do well, but it will be harder than when the eagles and crows came in just based on population and player depth.
Make sure you don’t fall out of love with us!

Reality suggests otherwise.

By simple maths it is getting harder with more teams, no doubt about it. I think the Tas team will be very interesting - I was adamant it should have been brought in instead of Gold Coast / GWS at the time. If it goes extremely well and is more self sufficient from day 1 it will say a lot about how poorly the AFL understands the social side of football and indeed how their eyes on $$$ over the growth of t he game can make them too myopic. They define growth way too much in terms of income.

Suits using the sporting competition as a money making business.

All it is.

Is signing on long-term something you'd (Sheezel) speak to Colby McKercher about in time as well? Everyone looks at Tasmania coming into the competition and him being at the front of their mind.
We've actually spoken about it a little bit. He doesn't see it as a factor at all. He's a Launceston boy and I think the Tassie team would be based in Hobart so it's not like he's going home anyway. I think he's going to hopefully follow me.

I highly doubt we will bring those games back to Victoria immediately no matter how much we threaten to hold our breath until we turn royal blue. They will stay in Hobart unless / until we find a way to replace that revenue, or 2028 when we no longer have the option.
Annoyingly I agree. They're not going to pull out of a lucrative deal until there is something new on the horizon. I hope the club has started exploring regional options in Victoria.

If you read enough of the idiots on BF, then they reckon mcckercher will just walk when his contract expires...except his current contract ends at the end of 2026, there is the little problem of 2027 as Tas comes in 2028.

So is mcckercher going to just sign a 1 year extension? Laughable

Good!

Finally hearing some talk regarding our exit.

Now we gotta find an option in Victoria..preferably Melbourne re those 4 games.

Why can't we do something ie- 2 of those games at Marvel & the AFL give us some extra cash for those games. 2 games in Bendigo or 1 game at Carlton's training base & 1 in Bendigo?

Games at Box Hill VFL? Right in the eastern suburbs on whitehorse rd, it's 5-10 minute walking distance from the train station.

The much preferred option obviously is those 4 games being at Marvel but it just sounds not financially viable.

the fact that the AFL own Marvel stadium and we can't play all our home games there...it sucks. And people underestimate this but it hurts our membership numbers and the amount of people attending our games. Our last game against St Kilda.....the only blue & white I saw was in the cheer squad area. St Kilda had fans sitting everywhere in the stadium and this is a club with not a huge supporter base....they're not in the same realm as a Collingwood, Carlton, Richmond etc.

Anyways let's GTFO of tassie.......sooner the better.

The northern municipalities training base thing is such a non-event, I don't know why these idiots can't figure that out. Nobody charges a gate entrance for training, you don't earn memberships from training, there simply is no money to be made from where you train.
Its a good idea tho. Not for the income but for the access to talent.

Is it just the money that's the biggest issue with exiting Tassie? The zone has done stuff all for us.

What do North get from the Tassie deal? $1M a year? $2M? Hardly ground breaking revenue. I'm so confident we have at least 10,000 members who would donate $1000 a year on top of memberships. I'd be the first in line. There's $10,000,000 a year. Make it a exclusive. Give us a special badge or something.

Sick of whoring ourselves across the country. We are the strongest we have ever been off-field and I piss on these relocation talks and merger talks.

I would be interested to know what GMHBA stadium might offer us to play 2 or 3 games there a year. The facilities there are quite good now and while it is a nightmare to go there as the away team playing Geelong, it would be a different proposition as the home team playing teams such as Freo or Port. It would also be relatively easy for most of our Victorian members to get to games (especially for members like me from the Western Suburbs)

I had thought that it was closer to $1M per game, or $4 for a season

I would love to see us play a home game in each of those towns and play 8 home games in Melbourne.

Me too. And i genuinely think its a possibility.

In fact, with the way that participation is across regional Victoria (Dropping considerably), i would approach the AFL with a proposal of pay us the same amount of money for 2025 that we were going to get from the Tasmania deal, and we will focus on these regional areas. Clinics, School visits, open trainings, pre season games. The whole works.

It was once a football heartland, now Regional Victoria barely produces a draftee.
