No.1 Draft Pick

With the No.1 draft pick (and im not saying we should or will, so dont attack me) do u think it would be best to try and get an A grade footballer? As we are a team that does lack quality players and genuine match winners, and the no.1 pick in the past, not living up to be all that it is hyped up to be.

Ok, I'll play the straight bat. We should swap it for Dal Santo. We probably won't draft a better midfielder and he is young but ready made. While we do that we need to force a couple of trades with the PSD pick before getting a pre arranged target to drop into tghe PSD for us (Stevens would do).

Try and recruit a Dal Santo type via the December draft and get the best 2 kids we can. Look at Delido and Tambling for Richmond and Franklin and Roughead they are good players at the moment and will only get better.
Best to pick up the best 2 young players we can. You never know when your going to get a Judd or a Haselby or Pavlich.

I agree with MarkT, offer the number 1 (if we get it) for a Dal Santo. At least you know you are getting quality,load someone good up for the PSD and use the priority(if it is still there) to draft a good young gun.

Assuming we get the priority pick we should trade the 2nd one and Andrew Williams to the Bullldogs for Peter Street and pick #7. It's foolproof!

No but really, I don't think there's many circumstances in which the #1 pick should be traded. If for instance, the best 7 or 8 draftees are key position player then maybe I'd consider it, but when the chance to draft the best kid in the land comes up so rarely (unless you support St. Kilda) I think you'd be stupid to trade it away. And let's face it, the player we draft will have a few years to develop before we have a serious chance of winning the flag anyway.

the second one and williams for street??? lol his going to get axed from the doggies at the end of the year anyways so why not pick him up for next to nothing in the drafts???

we would be lucky to get a 3rd or 4th round draft pick for williams and u want a return 7th pick lol heheheh funny stuff.

i think that we should use the number 1 draft pick for a decent player thats proven like a dal santo or a fev or something if we do want him at the end of the year and with the other picks get young players and build them up correctly like st kilda did years ago.

MarkT is right on the money however, if I could I would swap the No 1 pick for Del Santo, although I'm not convinced that he will leave St.Kilda but he's a good target for Collingwood to go after.
If not, just keep it and go for the best kid in the country.

According to the great Eddie 2spoons, they will try and poach players from other clubs. Try drafting a quality kid yourself. I hope you win 6 games at the end of the season so you can't get the priority pick.

Its all luck there was no kids out of contract last year
But there was a pretty rich draft maybe as good as the 2001 draft
The draft before wasnt as good so as we are both going to be fishing at the end off the year.I am glad you have John Hook and we dont.

John Hook isn't our head recruiter he just works part time as a scouter or something like that. I think Derek Hine is our head recruiter now and Judkins has been sort of demoted due to health issues.
They did last years draft and if they produce another effort like the crop of 2004 draftees I'll be very happy.
