Don't think we took many Fringe Players,

Those good point with Macaffer espically with Medders out, who will play medders role?

You do make a Good Point and You do have some Backing up for it. Those Thomas was the only 1 in 06 when we beat the Saints in OVERTIME.

But why would you play Fringe players ahead of Youngsters. Would Travel to Perth have something to do about it?

Those with Beams and Steele not playing will that means Finally Stanley will go into the Middle?

Fair Enough, As you say they are playing for More then the New Kids.

Those would be still good to see them play:( and then why did they get selected if they where not going to play?

1:Presti - Don't want him to get Injured Again
2:Cook - Punshment for his Scufflement

For Steele and Beams

Please Dave, it's giving me a headache.

Was starting to think that but I was thinking they don't want to Travel to Alice Springs for the NAB Challange game for the Loser

I would have thought Collingwood would take any chance it could to expand its supporter base outside of Victoria considering it only leaves the state 4 times during the home-and-away season :p

Good.

It will make them hungry.

There is no use playing all your cards in the NAB cup.

At the risk of overstating the impact they will have this year I'd prefer we used Beams and Iron Ass when it matters.

I'd bring them in for a big rivalry clash. You always need something special for those ones.

I'm sure there are multiple reasons for the kids not getting a game tonight.

These are some of the reasons that would make sense to me.
  • Want to field a side that has every chance of winning in attempt to ensure we are not playing in Alice Springs next game.
  • Give the fringe players an opprtunity to show their worth.
  • Get some game time in our regulars.
  • Make sure the kids don't think getting a game is easy. (even if they are a walk up start based on form)
  • Keep them keen with regards to their efforts at training. (as above
I would have loved nothing more than to see them play tonight. But let's not forget, we have played something like 15 first gamers during the last two seasons proper.

GO PIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's really disappointing. I can assume Sidey and Beams were left at home because to guide them through the year, rather than burn them out (hot weather, long trip etc.) They should all play next week.

Corrie is an interesting one.
Could fill the R Shaw role but with better foot skills

I think you'd find Jaxson Barham will cover the loss of Rhyce Shaw. He's an outside midfielder with pace to burn.

On the other hand, Corrie is a utility type player who will play in a wide range of positions all over the ground.

And if you want the facts, Chip, they say that Malthouse has only played 2 first year draftees in the first round of the Nab cup over the last few years, Thomas and Brown. The facts are on my side.

You had better check you facts. Brad Dick also played in the game with Nathan Brown & kicked his 1st goal in senior footy.

Chip has a valid point re McCarthy, he was coming off OP, was being brought along slowly & therefore highly unlikely to get a gig in the NAB Cup. The other draftees taken that year were either not up to it or needed more time before playing a game due to relative inexperience (Barham only had 1 year in the TAC Cup).

Trav Cloke would have played 1st round in the Wizard Home Loan Cup in '05 but injured his shin the week before the game.

Pendles would also have been a big chance of playing with Daisy but was recovering from illness.

Is Corrie and L.Brown playing in tonights game ? Will be interesting to see them in the B&W
Yep both are and I am most Interested to see Corrie play R Show old Role and Hopefully with less Clangers:thumbsu:

Its been hotter in Melb than here in Alice lately so it wouldnt be the heat and Treager Oval has a good quality surface. + even though it is Collingwood i would rather watch them instead of West Cost for the third time in a row, as Saints never come here.

No Rusty or Beamer? Gosh, I'm outraged, I think I'll forget about AFL and start following quoits.

Seriously, they'll have their chance, more than likely in a subsequent pre-season game, and quite possibly in Melbourne.

I want to see;
a) Benny Reid take some marks down back
b) Stanners impose himself in the middle
c) The Sheriff tagging Kerr into non-existence
d) Dawesome providing headaches up forward

Go Pies!

I was thinking they won't play this game but there are a very good chance to play in the QF if we make it through

Would Love to See:

  • Wood Creating Headaches
  • Dawes Kicking a Bag of Goals
  • Us Winning The Game

Very disappointing, we can't play everyone though.
Stanners must be in the guts......and plenty of other guy's to get excited about, can't wait. Leon, Wellingham, Dawes and Thomas the tank you beauty.
What's the problem with going to Alice Springs??
The Park they would be playing on would be not as good as the Dome

You are being a bit of a goose, Chip Douglas. If you look at my post, I siad he often leaves out first year players, which is exactly what he did again this year.

I am not saying he leaves out "fringe" players or "young" players to the extent that they are not first year draftees. I know he plays fringe players and young players, but just very rarely first year draftees, which is what I am saying.
The truth of the matter is he has often played first year draftees in pre season competitions Leon, Didak, Goldie, Daisy, Josh, Johnson and Dick just to name a few have all played round one of pre season cups and plenty more who are no longer with the club. Mick has always said he never looks at birth certificates and he plays guys when he thinks they're ready.

On SEN Basil ? just mentioned the Collingwood list for tonight's game and mentioned Sidebottom and Beams as being the only inexperienced players in the squad!! What's going on? Has this guy not done his research or are the boys playing?

Hire. Those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

lol wow.... you got me!!!

What's with all my posts being deleted anyway...... Considering Dave starts every single thread on this bloody board, I'm starting to feel like I'm going to need to learn a new language to keep up....
