Which understates the impact he had on the match
Kicked a goal from well outside 50 in the third quarter which lifted his side and was a fingernail away from kicking the sealer in the 4th
He showed all the traits today that made me such a fan last year - hard at the contest, chases, not afraid to back himself, can breakaway from a contest at pace, finds the goals and is a strong big bodied mid.
Added to that he was a diehard Eagles supporter who loved the club and had exposure to our system through East Perth. From all reports he was a great kid who got to where he was despite considerable adversity.
There were a lot of reasons to recruit him and it would have been a great feel good story had we done so
For a club that's been traditionally risk averse with their first round draft picks we overlooked the obvious choice. Instead we went the higher risk/higher reward option with the more talented Venables who was considered a top 10 pick by some but had issues with his foot/feet. He's also a Victorian lad so he will always be a potential flight risk
Now I like the look of Venables but if his feet remain an issue or he goes home early or doesn't fulfil his talent then the recruiters deserve a bollocking for passing on a player that was right under their nose
Alternatively if Venables develops into a bigger stronger version of shuey then they deserve the plaudits
Breaking news at 7, football fans massive hypocrites when it's not their team. Not that it's hard to find hypocrisy in the AFL these days, but I heard a lot of Bombers fans booing JOM before his set shot. Dude has had a lot of hard luck AND dons fans are meant to have of a strong stance on booing. What happened there?
Which is a bit of a worry for tomorrow's gameLooking like four consecutive upsets today if Bombers hold on

Heppell isn't a favourite of mine but he's put in a fair effort first up as a captain
The gushing in the commentary box is nauseating though. Time to turn it off pretty much
The fawning by the commentators about the brave bombers is vomit worthy.
BUT they're a Victorian team and we are not!! Question answered - don't be surprised as there has always been two sets of rules.its staggering how hypocritical they are

Don't forget they are the biggest pack of moronic ********ers going around. The fawning by the commentators about the brave bombers is vomit worthy.
difference is that we didn't overlook a guy like SPP. SPP is someone who loved the club and played with our boys at EP. Many of us agree he is the type we need. It will infuriate the idiot base when they see SPP dominate while venables takes his time. I didn't mind the venables pick, infact i fell in love with him when i first watched him play. But i can see him take his time while SPP will most likely be a rising star winner or thereabouts this year. They'll surely turn on Duggan long before Venables.
I actually think by the end of the season Venables could be the better player of the two already.
