Rumour on our board is that Dev has re-signed, just hasn’t been announced yet.

If i was Dev and i'd just tasted a grand final, and was only few disgusting umpiring calls off from being a premiership player...

I'd ignore the Ashcroft additions and still sign on with Brisbane knowing it's the quickest route to getting back to playing in a grand final on the MCG again. Compare that to going to the potato factory on the other side of the country that can't buy a win, let alone the opportunity to play in a grand final.

Be different if you'd won, or if you got flogged. For me a close loss would galvanise the group, so i'm thinking he'll stay, if he hasn't already signed behind the scenes earlier.

Does anyone think Brisbane can go all the way though? They got close but will probably end up like the Saints from a decade ago.

There doing very well getting high end talent due to the compromised drafts though

They were a kick away from winning this year

It doesn’t appear they’re at risk of losing any notable players other than the retirement of Rich who wasn’t best 22 by the end of the year anyway

Other than Zorko and maybe Gunston the players aren’t particularly old

There’s no guarantees in football so they might not get another crack but nor are there any red flags to suggest they won’t

Daniher was one of Brisbane's better players yesterday without doing anything spectacular. Only one derp moment I can recall when he airballed a handball. Hipwood would want to forget yesterday though.

Missed a goal he should have kicked and had a few baby giraffe moments with ground balls but that's very much part of the Daniher package.

No thanks to Hipwood though. Watching the game it felt like the Lions had a lot of passengers.

So did Collingwood

Been a few comments across social media that it was one of the best grand finals and perhaps the best this century

It was good in that it was close throughout with plenty of lead changes but I don’t think the standard was as good as some other grand finals. The suffocating pressure and intensity that defined our last two premiership games wasn’t there for example

There’d be a lot of Brisbane players unhappy with what they produced just as a lot of Collingwood players would be disappointed with their efforts had they lost

So is airballing a handball I reckon :p

Since 2000, we won in 06 after a close gf loss in 05, Cats 09 after 08 (not super close but not a blowout), Hawks in 13. History shows after a close gf loss teams will soon challenge again. No guarantees, but can't see why the Lions won't get better.

I won't lie, i rate Dopey Joe. I'm a big fan, not obsessed. Probably my favourite player in the AFL that isn't an Eagle.

Just like watching him play. Bit like Darling, there's always some theatrics going on with him, you can't look away. It's hilarious when you've got him in your multi to kick 2 goals and he'll finish the game with 1.4 and 2 OOB.

He missed 1 gettable shot in the 4th, just like Bobby Hill did for the Pies from an easier angle, but was still Brisbane's best player and would've given the norm a shake up if they'd won IMO. Their best forward by the length of the Flemington.

16D, 3 goals, 8M, 3 contested, 2 clearances, 7 score involvements reads not too dissimilar to JK's grand final in 2018.

Hipdick on the other hand is a POS. Everyone laughed when they randomly signed him up on this long term deal, and he performs about as well as you'd expect in a grand final for a bloke who sleeps with the light on.

Unless ah chee was injured they should have subbed hipwood.. the game went around him and he wasn’t involved and when he was he stuffed it up…
They actually would have been better with Gunston instead of him.

Note taken , tbh tho hes the type of campaigner that would come over to this board if we lost a gf by less then a goal and tell us where we went wrong😂
Nope.

I’ll be off your board once you’re genuinely competitive.

Probably back to the Freo board.

The Collingwood-GWS prelim was a better game. And there have been plenty better Grand Finals in recent years.

It could be the hazy memory from the drinks talking, but it felt like both teams had half a dozen passengers yesterday. Rare in a close grand final for both teams to have that. Unfortunately for Brisbane their passengers were half of their midfield.

Ironic the Collingwood vs GWS game also ended with the pies getting a ride from the umpires, with a major talking point being the lack of head high tackle awarded to Toby when Daicos tackled him around the eye socket....

Only for the following week, Dick Ducko's getting gifted at least 3 free kicks where he blatantly contributed to the high contact himself and kicked the first goal of the grand final from it.

Couldn't have written a better example of umpire incompetence, both times favouring the pies, and both times for the very same infringement.

I watched the game at the pub so didn't hear a lot of the commentary. I just watched the highlights and it must have been one of the worst commentary line-ups of all time. Brian Taylor with his bias and fumbles and Brayshaw with his shrieking everytime there was a goal.

At least it wasn't a blow-out. Apparently it was one of the best GF's in living memory or some such hyperbole - I was a bit hungover and flat, so only found the last quarter 'exciting'.
I reckon whether the umps handed the Pies the game or not is kind of irrelevant, the same could be said for the idea that Lions could've lost by a whole lot more if the Pies kicked straight; while that is a good point, it is what it was, the Lions were still in it up to the end.

But at the big dance you just have to seize every opportunity and they fell short, were found lacking, missed vital scoring shots. Every moment, passage of play counts or adds up and the Pies did this better, they had the experience of grinding games down and winning from narrow margins.

There was the Pie army advantage factor, the Lions poor record at the G. The Pies seemed to choke the corridor, force them wide and kept the pressure on all game to stifle the Lion's run+gun game, it worked. What if Taylor Adams played? Yet the Lions were still in it and arguably could've won, with or without the umps unheard 'advantage' call at the end, or the high tackle incidents.
That's why it's such a great game when it's 'on'.
Don't want to even think about the umps favouring the Pies to win conspiracy theory, as much as I often think there is such rigged Vic bias in the overall system, it would just ruin my faith and enjoyment of the game.

The Pies have been building since 2018 so it was their time you could say and I'm kind of glad it's done+dusted. Not sure about any dynasty happening, with Lions+Giants around and Carlton building. But it was 'noice' to see Pendlebury get a gong and even the big Texan, that was a good story. Frampton was a lucky duck. Commentary was ordinary. Will watch again some time.
