the lack of outrage is due to us filling a need taking a key defender. had they chosen say yarran instead of rich (like carlton!) this thread would be flooded i imagine.

hmmm, I assuming that the lack of outrage in this thread is from a bit of mod work?

Ah well, I might have to add a bit.

Now, I'm not going to bad mouth Hurley - I'm sure he'll do so good work...

but.

I am outraged! we passed up on a potential A grade midfielder. A hole that we desperately needed to fill.

You don't break games open with backmen. You do that in the midfield!

If you have a excellent mids, and excellent forward, then the back line gets a lot of that pressure taken off them- look at Hawthorn!

I'm absolutely shocked that we let Rich slip- and I hate the sentiment that we were filling a hole.

We HAVE a huge hole in our midfield for that A grade midfielder.

We HAD the chance to pick one up.

And we walked right on by.

I'm shocked.
Hawthorn used their best player (Hodge) in defence.

Just forget about it guys. Hurley will be great for us.
basically, i'm not having a whinge because:
a) Hurley looks very promising.. Hurley, Ryder and Pears is a potentially awesome backline.
b) Rich might not turn out to make us regret over looking him.
c) Whinging won't change a thing.

If we had've selected Yarran or Sidebottom (or any other mid) over Rich, I'd be peeved. But Hurley was the best KBP prospect, which can be argued we need.

He doesn't lack speed.

We're trying to cheer you up. Go along with it.:D

Has attitude problems. Not enough determination to beat a tag. Can only play well as the fourth or fifth midfielder.

From the footage, both Hurley and Zaharakis look really composed with the ball and potential leaders. Rakis seems to really hit his targets and under pressure aswell, both long and short kicks. And he can kick goals from 50m +. Looks like a good prospect to me seen as we have alot of ball winners in the middle, he adds the classy finish.
Cant complain with Hurley. Awesome kick off either foot, great positioning, and even without pace seems to always have time and rarely misses a target. Great picks.

Bad luck guys I thought for sure you lot or port/carl would pick him up. Still I'm uber pleased to see the lions finally pick up a super talented mid instead of another KPP.

Luck?
We had the opportunity to grab Rich and we passed up on it. It's called decision making, not luck. If Essendon feel that they've made the correct decision, then I'm happy that we took Hurley.

Isn't bombersno1 one of the people who were advocating that we tank in order to get Rich?

How ironic that we could have actually won more games and still selected him.

I hope a lesson was learnt.

never sir J. But ..
Shed a tear for the BF brainwashed. It's a rich wake.

And knights made it plain he was going to follow through on a drafting program pre-draft which preceded him and was unfinished. We have hit the previous drafts and have a stock of potential mids whether you like them or not. But they have to maturate.

We cannot simply keep drafting mids first up because the weight of BF opinion was there.

wait... then we need to stop drafting lower order mids if we've got too many.

When was the last time we picked up a midfielder in the first round?

Monfries? does he count?
Before that, it was Winders!

Our midfield has been hemoraging for years - and our plan is to bolster our defense?

3 out of 4 years now we've drafted defenders with our round 1 pick.

Our defence wouldn't need to be so bolstered if the ball didn't go down there so often!

We need to fix the root of the problem, not just address the symptoms.
