Solomon has given us virtually nothing the last 2 years except giving away stupid free kicks and turning the ball over all the time, Nash or Lee should have played instead in hindsight, time for them to step in. Lonergan is going to be a very good footballer and he was taken higher than 47 in a lesser draft, Collingwoods top picks had nothing to do with us.

the collingwood reference was a separate quote hence it being on a different paragraph. And i was referring to how we should have been getting 2 first round picks but because of our shoddy arrogance clubs are not willing to trade with us.

hard to criticise Soloman too much, sure he had is indiscretions which were costly but he played out of posiiton half the time this season on Hall, Fevola, gehrig etc etc and then on a guy who has an extra yard or three on him in mark williams which i think he did a fair job until that last mark. He played on these guys because Fletch was busy containing other forwards for whatever reason, and because NO ONE ELSE IS GOOD ENOUGH. now we have lost him and a kd post is short not only in height but it is very weak and thin. If we have either Fletcher or Lloyd go down our season is over, so yeah good compensation to get 2 picks in the 40's.

Lee is not good enough he will get killed by Barry Hall, Jonathon Brown type, Nash is ok from what ive seen. I have a feeling henneman is going to remain because of this rediculous trade, u watch they wont want to depart with another KP Defensive player. If they dont take hansen in the draft bar then our backline is in serious trouble for the years to come.

We shopped JJ around for another first rounder but no bites, maybe we should have offed up Lucas or Hille etc for a first rounder then. It has nothing to do with clubs not wanting to trade with us. If we had something to offer then clubs would have been interested. Lets face it Collingwood only got another first rounder because of Freo's stupidity.

trading our virtual second in line defender even if out of form for two picks in the forty's is in our favour is it?????????? disgraceful trade, with the way dodoro drafts we will get an extra two duds that will be kept on our list for 2 years.

cant believe out of all clubs collingwood has 2 first round picks. they'll get a mitchell thorpe type player and another midfielder i would presume.

You also need to remember that no other club wanted anything that regarded as useless. We had talls in Bolton/Henneman/Carts...nothing, Soloman/JJ are hard at it type players...noone offered us anything of significance. Pev/Reynolds...not even a mention. How were we going to manufacture a trade from that bunch??

And YES! Soloman for an extra trade in the top 50 is defintely a win in my book. The draft is very deep...very deep!! The top 20 would virtually be all top 10 draft picks in any other year, so you can look at it as an extended first round right up until pick 30-40.

Troy Makepeace delisted from Kangas. Always thought he was a reliable, solid defender who went about his role quietly and sufficiently. Might be a good acquisition for us should we need to further develop our backline. Only 26-27 years of age suggests he could excel in a thriving club like ours...

Thornton looks just about a certainty to stay with the blues, and i can't say i'm too bothered, especially at the price he's after.

Edit: ferguson is under contract still (i think).

So can i take it then that you are unhappy with Stanton,Monfries,Laycock,Dempsey,Nash,Bradley,Lee etc etc.
Sure, there are some players he has picked that were not that good, but its not a perfect science and you can go through EVERY club and pick out the same bad choices.

I can understand you being disapointed at losing Solly, but it's a fact of football, get used to it.

Collingwood only has 2 first round picks because they traded Tarrant.
They gor pick 8 for him.Pick 10 they already had from where they finished on the ladder
BUT, he is 26, marks strongly, is quick, and if he could ever kick straight would kick 70+ goals a year.

Solomon is undisciplined, not quite tall enough for key back, turns the ball over, slow and has had a LOT of injuries....what do you think hes worth?

Instead of mindlessly slagging off Dodoro, tell us who you think we should have traded to get a first round pick?
Keep in mind, we put JJ on the table, and no one would give us a first round pick for him.

i think Bradley should have been traded, i think that either Mark Johnson or Jason Johnson should have been traded 1-2 years ago when they had value just like when bolton and henneman should have been traded to stkilda or hawthorn in 2001 but instead they stuck with them and traded jacobs??? personally i like jacobs and i think he was the wrong person to have been given the flick.

i certainly didnt want JJ to go this year unless a first round pick was on offer and i stated that all along, his value compared to the draft diminished that and i understand that, but his value to us was worth much more then what was on offer so i agree we shouldn't have traded him.

As for others i think that welsh, Nash, slattery along with Bradley should have been shopped around because they have value.

out of those you listed im happy with stanton, monfries who i cant say love but respect immensely, laycock, dempsey and Nash but he needs to have a solid season next year. One you missed is dyson who i regard as being a great pick up.

Bradley to me lost all credibility the more i watched him live, he just does not take contested marks and against richo he couldnt even get a fist near the ball when richo chest marked it????????? Lee? dont know is he slow question marks, Ryder well i think he can ruck but boy his enthusiasm for wanting the ball is nothing compared to when i saw Lloyd and lucas playing reserves for us at Punt road before the seniors game. Even when lloyd played seniors that year u coule tell he was willing himself to be great. ryder? well when i watched the hawthorn game i think he looked at hird to say where do i go, maybe it was just me but it looked like hird was saying WTF how could u not know, he stod in know mans land and the ball scooted over his head many a time and everitt killed us.

With soloman i agreed he should have been traded but not for the picks we got, i think we should have traded soloman plus a pick for at least another second rounder or for Ryley Dunn or Polak.

Im majorly dissapointed because i think with the enivatable imropvement of some of our younger players plus a couple of good trade we could have been on the improve instead of another year down the bottom, now im not so sure. Im really scare now that we will get another bolton in the draft whilst other clubs will pick an adam goodes or daniel kerr.

I dont know who is going to be left in the PSD but from the list on uncontracted players a month or 2 ago there arent many left that i say have potential, dare i say it because he is the only coach i can remember but i think this is sheedys last for us. Hopefully our drafting leaves us in a good position for the new coach as sheedys has always hinted towards.

He's signed on with Carlton for 3 more years. Now to concentrate on the draft.

A little surprised to see Thurgood get the chop at Hawthorn...he struck me as someone with potential despite his slender frame. Might be a candidate for a club wanting to develop a young body into something of a KP. 190 cms suggests he has the height to hold down a position down the spine...

Well it looks like Bolton has survived again. I have mixed feelings about this. Out of all the players that might have gone (and some that did) I think that he is still the one that is worth keeping. He has excellent stamina and is a tryer. He is neither a KPP or midfielder, but he does plug a gap. There are many players who would be happy to have had the career he has had.

So, that being the case, I wonder, do we really need to take six people in the National Draft? After #47 isn't it a bit of a gamble? The word in the Age is that it will probably be Austin Lucy to go soon. If this is true is he really worse than a very low down pick? I have not seen him play, so could someone please tell me what they think?

Only seen Lucy play a small handful of games. Seems like still has a fair way to go. Although recruited as a Full Back he hasn't really played there. He is no certainty to make it in the AFL. I would give him a second year, mainly because I feel all young players should get two years to show what they have got, but if the coaches have seen enough to decide that they don't think he will make it then fair enough.

He might have told the club he wants to go home. We wouldnt get much more then a very late pick for him which we would have been forced to take, this way if he do delist him we can pick up an experienced player in the PSD. Thats if he does want to go home. We will also be getting Darcy Daniher next year as FB

I thought he played FF or CHF. So I suppose he could always be moved to defence.

Out of interest has anyone here seen him play?
