2002/03 - Juventus knocked out Real Madrid; AC Milan beat Juventus in the final.
2003/04 - Monaco knocked out Real Madrid; Porto beat Monaco in the final.
2004/05 - Juventus knocked out Real Madrid; Liverpool beat Juventus in the quarter-finals on their way to winning the final.
2005/06 - Arsenal knocked out Real Madrid; Barcelona beat Arsenal in the final.
2006/07 - Bayern Munich knocked out Real Madrid; AC Milan beat Bayern Munich in the quarter-final on their way to winning the final.
2007/08 - Roma knocked out Real Madrid; Manchester United beat Roma on their way to qualifying for the final.

Basically whoever beats Real Madrid and makes the final will lose, but if the team that beat Real Madrid are beaten before the final, that team will win the title, as we did by beating Roma in the quarters.

Another sign hopefully...

And I cant see Valencia winning a Spanish title anytime soon, does that mean anything?

I got offered a ticket for the champs league final yesterday. A snip at a mere 1,500 POUNDS sterling. And that's not including flights etc. I said no.

There was an article in the Guardian about United going into the final day of the 67/78 season needing a win to hold off City (who were level on points). We lost to Sunderland at Old Trafford 0-2 whilst City beat Newcastle 4-3, thus giving them the title. We ended up in the European Cup final and won that (thus overshadowing City's bit of glory ).

Anyway, it got me thinking of Premiership seasons where United were involved with the title on the line in the final day of the season. Here's what I came up with.

94/95 – Went into the last game trailing Blackburn by 2 points, but we had a superior goal difference. Blackburn lost at Anfield, but we could only draw against West Ham (how we didn't get a winner in that last fifteen minutes, I'll never know). We finished 1 point behind Blackburn.

95/96 – Went into the last game ahead of Newcastle by 2 points and only needing a draw to win the title. We beat Boro 3-0 to make Newcastle’s final result irrelevant.

98/99 – Went into the final day 1 point ahead of Arsenal with only a goal or two separating them on goal difference. United defeated Tottenham 2-1 at Old Trafford to render Arsenal’s result irrelevant.

I don't know about you guys, but I was pretty confident of getting a result in 95/96 and 98/99. I'm pretty edgy about the game against Wigan. Since we never do things the easy way, I reckon we'll be down a goal at half-time.....and buggered if I know what'll happen in the 2nd half.

Well done to Rooney to work that penalty. Was definately there. Thought Ronaldo might stuff himself up with some jumpstarts but thats the coolest ive seen him take a penalty.

Definately not over by a long stretch. Couple of hairy moments there and Scholes is within a bees pubic hair of being sent off. Another goal is a neccessity.
