harvey has got 7 weeks to show everyone how much he wants a head job

if we could win 5 games or at least play a tough,competitive, accountable style he will be the front runner

daniher shouldnt get the job and i thik laidley will remain with the roos

I'm sure he would love a head job but it might matter who gives it to him

Laidley will stay at North Melbourne. The results have fallen well for him. A top four finish this year will ensure he gets signed up, with a fat pay rise. The only thing could be if Freo offers more money (which they definitely could do). NO.

Sumich?He sounds like he has received a head injury in a car accident. NO.

Harvey? Well, does he want it? If he'd rather court the Essendon job, then cya later. MAYBE.

Daniher is just like CC. Too nice, and he's not a premiership coach. NO WAY.

Chris Bond? I don't know.

Voss is too inexperienced.

Pagan would be a terrible idea. Results at Carlton have been lamentable.

IN SUMMARY: I think the job is Harvey's IF HE WANTS IT. And that's a big if.

It is really starting to sh*t me that they keep referring to Sumich as being the man that will inject more Freo into Freo.
Anyone that's played 200-odd matches for West Coast revokes any association with Fremantle. He can pharken well stay there unless he's the best candidate. And IMO he's not.

But the number 1 target has to be Sheedy. The man clearly has as much passion for the game as he ever has. If he doesn't want to come over then bad luck, but we can't die wondering.

IMO Definite NOs:

Harvey: Doesn't strike me as a leader and I don't think he has the mind for the modern game.

Sumich: In many ways is a CC clone. I can imagine things going along in a similar vein if he was taken.

Longmuire: Don't know if he would take a Sydney game plan with him, but I don't want a sydney game plan anyway.

Voss: No experience, relying on charisma only. Doesn't strike me as a particularly clever guy.

I know i have said it before and i know he has 2yrs left on his contract but if any more trouble happen over at the eagles and Freo offer him big big $$$$$$$$$ to come and coach i think Woosha will accept. Rumor has

it someone already has.

If the team under Harvey (presuming he is named 'Interim') performs with 5 wins or more then he'd be favorite. Even if they don't win 5 or more but the teams 'shows' a better application to playing footy then I would think he'd get it.

Longmire I think would bring great experience from Sydney (who have unquestioned discipline and hardness)

Bond has a wealth of experience at different clubs.

Daniher - meh!

German - I dont know that much about him but from what I've read and heard he's a solid candidate.

I think the main thing is that the next Head Coach needs to be a player's coach first and foremost. The player's have to want to play for him.

Whilst I admire and respect Sydney, I wouldnt like to see the Freo team play that negated crowded style of footy on the wide expanses of Suni that they've perfected over in Sydney. It's just not quite the right fit.

Tony Micale, is certainly worth looking at for a role in the club though.

Not trolling, but michael voss has huge potential to mould in to one of the quality coaches in the competition due to his obvious leadership qualities, his tactical knowledge and his recent AFL playing style experience. I think with a fresh coach, a squad re-shuffle and a recruitment re-vamp, you guys could become a genuine flag chance and a force to be reckoned with. Good Luck

What exactly has Voss done to prove he's capable of being a senior coach? Just that he was one of the greatest players of the modern game? As others have said, he doesn't appear to be the sharpest tool in the shed.

It should be either Harvey or an experienced coach. NO AYRES. I would prefer someone like Blight, even though he is a risk (see the St Kilda debacle).

Getting someone because they're perceived as being 'tough' isn't that smart, IMO. Ideally, I would like someone like Rodney Eade - brains AND passion. Unfortunately he's taken.

Connolly's coaching record stacks up well (on the face of it) against Laidley, Pagan and Daniher. Of course these figures dont include the players each club had to work with to get these results. Eg, Pagan won a couple of premierships with arguably the best CHF to ever have played whereas at Carlton he had nothing to work with. Daniher on the other hand has had a pretty settled squad over a 10 year period and only had limited success.
Laidley has the Kangas firing and sitting in 3rd possie but prior to this year he too had limited successs and has been under pressure to perform for a couple of years, yet he hasn't got the talent to work with Daniher or CC had.
So who is the better candidate if Sheedy is not available???
