The thing with bringing Martin in though is that Carlton don't have any dickheads that he'd get into trouble with given the "introverted" nature of the list which is a positive.

I still think he'll end up at Collingwood though

Except if he's the dickhead and starts bringing some of our other 'introverted' players down.

I think chappy would be a good free agent pick up

I was thinking the same thing watching the game friday night. Still looks pretty good, reckon he could go around again easily. And would bring a slew of finals and premiership experience to the club - knows what it takes and has always had the drive. I can't see him being anything but a great influence on the rest of our blokes, and if he puts in some really strong games then all the better.

Richmond need a ruck how about Hampson for Martin and maybe some steak knives? Or even Yarran for Martin?

Will people stop dipping into dusty martins party bowl... Things are stupid enough around here already without people getting on the ****ing drugs as well...

Dusty is a grade A tool and we got rid of all the ****wits at the club a couple of years back and we don't need any more!

I'd rather we overpay to keep Eddie than to bring in Martin.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest should Dusty find himself in a Fremantle or Sydney jumper next year.

Wouldn't surprise me if WC offer pick 6 for him. Eddie is a good player but he isn't worth 600k to us.

West Coast showing serious interest is also a possibility, but I think Fremantle is probably the better fit for all concerned, and they'd certainly have the cash to make it happen.

Eddie isn't worth 600k, he's probably not even worth 500k. This is why I couldn't possibly begrudge him for leaving if offered that amount of money. He'd be silly not to take it and we'd be silly to cave in and match it.

Odd that he leaves when our finals series is over and Mick has publicly stated he wants more mids.........

Conspiracy theory

Nope, just 'that' time of year and a week after Richmond's season ended (in glorious fashion might I add).

700k x 5 years for Dale Thomas???

That is crazy. Locking anyone in for 5 years is pure madness. An example of such madness was locking Waite into his 4 or 5 year contract. He has been on a long contract and has played one game in 4 since and been less than useful in half of those matches anyway.

Thomas is good- but not that good.

Best thing about Eddie's situation for us it that it works out for us either way.

Robbo isn't a dickhead. If anything, he would be the most approachable Carlton player and maybe even AFL player. He loves his fans and doesn't take where he's at for granted.

Robbo and Martin are polar opposites

I didn't mean to highlight dickhead. I can just imagine Dustin and Robbo heading to big day out together and causing a riot.

re: players like Robbo & Bell on the trade table.

Does the fact that (despite their weaknesses) they possess a remarkable amount of mongrel and intensity for the contested ball/man hold them in greater stead than more conventional midfielders?

ie. Are the sum of their parts and what they bring to the team more valuable than raw statistics? Can we place a value on that and accept the good with the bad?

Personally, I love seeing them both out there as it creates an air of unpredictability about our team, and it ensures the opposition always needs to keep an eyes out for them lest they cop a smashing.

I think what they both have can't be taught - it's purely instinctive - but if they can both learn to harness and focus their aggression, and recognise their limitations, their combined efforts will go a long way over the coming years in making us a force to be reckoned with.

Well written piece, Dude.
