So we should just give it to anyone without in depth thought?

Ok.
They've been thinking this over for ages. Teague is just a new contender that they didn't consider. There's no guarantees with with any other more credentialed coaches, but there's more proof supporting Teague if we finish this season strongly. Surely that would be enough evidence?

I remember a certain Cats coach claiming
"we won't be in the finals, but we can influence them" before playing a strong Carlton team at Princess Park.

Those of you who were there will remember the game....

What a good way to derail their finals campaign

Who can be our milburn?

See how teague goes rest of the year but if we win say another 3-4 surely he’s in the hunt?

I know it was only one game, but i didn't really notice Lyon make any changes on game day that helped swing the game in their favour.

As has been mentioned, Teague on the other hand seems to be able to make changes on game-day and adapt to the situation to help us win.

Still don't really want Lyon as coach...Freo have been poor the last few years and are currently 7-7 despite playing a reasonably mature side and having match-winners like Walters/Fyfe/B Hill get them over the line in some games.

On the Couch and Roos talks down Teague's prospects while talking up Rhyce Shaw at North. He said Carlton can't go down that route again, I guess meaning an untried coach.

The big knock on Bolton was he hadn't played AFL while Teague has. He has also been an assistant coach for a while. Rhyce Shaw is no different to Teague and North didn't have success under Scott who was a first time senior coach too.

No doubt Roos is angling for a payday and a say in who gets our gig.

I just want to point out that most of our coaches with past associations to Carlton have a coaching record of 50% or over. Not so for many of our coaches who had no prior association with Carlton before coming here to coach.

Pagan, Malthouse, Bolton, Brittain - non Carlton people, losing records.
Ratten, Jesaulenko, Walls and currently Teague - Carlton people, winning records.

Of course some of our greatest coaches have been non-Carlton people - Parkin, Barassi.

I just hate this expectation that we have to get a recycled coach and avoid the jobs for the boys mentality. At least you know that Carlton people are passionate and it hurts when we lose.

when was the last time a recycled coach ever worked out? malthouse at collingwood?

i generally agree with roos' comments on most things but that was a staggeringly absurd statement to make. if anything the only time carlton has ever got the coach thing right was when they appointed ratten after he impressed in his caretaker role.

teague has already shown more matchday tactical ability than half the established coaches in the AFL and he gets the best out his players. in his 3 games so far we've had 3 career best performances from 3 different players and this isn't just a 'new coach high' he put those players in positions to excel.

unless clarkson declares himself interested in the job, i'd already be starting to draft up teague's head coaching contract.

Those Carlton people had very good lists, compared to the non Carlton people.

Of course the romance of an ex- Carlton player would be ideal, but my preference is still someone that is a strong character, that will still embrace the rebuild with patience and have a balance of defensive and attacking game style. I don't care if it is a recycled coach or a first timer

At this early stage, Teague's audition is mirroring Roos when he took over from Eade, where he won 6 of the last 10 games in 2002. If Teague achieves that, I think the club should offer him the role

allan jeans - leigh matthews - ron barassi - malcolm blight

Yeah but he said the last time. That was Malthouse leaving West Coast and eventually winning a flag with Collingwood.

Simpson, Hardwick, Beveridge, Clarkson, Longmire, C Scott, Worsfold, Roos, Williams, Thompson - all first time senior coaches who won flags. 3 got senior jobs elsewhere afterwards with no success.

Malthouse, Matthews, Jeans, Parkin, Barassi, Blight are rightfully held in high esteem. Blight coached 4 clubs and had the ultimate success at one.

Even so, the fact remains that a lot of first time senior coaches have success. They just need to have the right approach, the right support, be aware of how the system works, have a player's understanding and a bit of passion.

Teague was a development coach and Bullants coach from 2008-2010. Eagles assistant from 2011-2013. Saints assistant in 2014. Crows assistant from 2015-2017. Blues assistant again from 2017 until 2019 and getting a senior coach interim opportunity to show his stuff.

12 years of coaching. I have no idea why Teague is playing down whether he is ready or not, but I suspect it is because he doesn't know what the hierarchy are thinking and he doesn't want to covet the position too hard and find himself out of a job if he doesn't get it.

He is as qualified as any first time senior coach I can think of.

I'd argue that the likes of Ratten had to develop or attract a lot of their list though. Certainly Pagan and Malthouse didn't have us playing any recognisable game plan or manage to motivate the players very often.

I still think Ratten had a better list to work with, than both Pagan and Malthouse, but I also would have retained Ratten

This game :rage:

Was there.

Not only was I there, but our regular spot was right behind the interchange bench, below the old commentary box.

It was frightening the tension in the vicinity....one of the Blues 'supporters' in the clip who was banging on the interchange box wanting a piece of Milburn was a regular. Absolute nutter who had been escorted out of the ground in previous games, and it wouldn't have been beyond him to jump the fence and punched on with the Geelong bench. It could have been a lot uglier than it actually turned out.

It was the only time I'd been to the game that we'd won, and was absolutely hollow. By memory, it was also the same game that Ratts dislocated his elbow that ruled him out for the rest of the year.

In ten words are you hiring or not...I'm sick of reading short stories and a little tired/hung over. Keep it nice...

He took over a team that had barely won for 2 seasons - if he declared himself ready and those results continued, it served only to damage his credentials. There was no benefit to play his hand before letting early results play out - I think we'll now see more subtle comments indicating his interest and readiness.

And the broke Campo's nose too.
Destroyed our run into the finals
