But at times, when Dangerfield has one of those performances, as he did on the weekend, he just looks a completely different animal.

The marking threat (something Martin never had), the attack at the footy and that immediate burst of speed. He's now about surpass Dustin Martin and I get the feeling you are hating it.

Only John Coleman himself in history has outdone Dusty in this stat, and he was a permanent Full Forward of course, and probably the greatest ever Full Forward, or as good as. Dangerfield has scored 1 goal in his two Grand Finals from 3 shots at goal. The opposition TEAMS have scored 20 goals in those games, so they are outscoring Dangerfield at the rate of 9.5 goals per Grand Final. Thus, Dustin Martin's 4 of 19 goals scored in the 2020 Grand Final is relatively of similar value when compared to G Ablett Senior's 9 of 42 goals in the 1989 Grand Final. This is not to mention Dusty's two goal assists which is more than Ablett had in his entire career.

This is not entirely correct. Richmond being able to leave a massive scoring threat outnumbered ahead of the ball, knowing he will keep the scoreboard ticking over allows greater resources to be deployed in other areas, like full ground defence.

In those finals games Richmond were able to defend Hawkins, Stewart, Dangerfield. Cats were not able to defend Martin. And just as importantly, they were not able to attack off Martin. Thus Cats scored an average of 7 goals in the 3 finals v the Tigers.

Dangerfield averages plenty of finals goals and assists for the games where he rotates or plays forward. Mostly he's been a permanent midfielder.

Dangerfield's played a whopping 30 finals quite evenly spread across 2009-2025: from kid to grandpa. Martin's are almost all condensed to his 4 year peak in a dominant dynasty side.
